Director’s LetterSpending your life with someone you dearly love has to be a wonderful experience. Being at a place you dearly love just adds to the happiness. Norman and Ethel are a true team. Golden Pond with it’s Loons and friends bring joy to their lives. But sometimes unresolved problems in relationships seem like a weight around your neck. They must be faced and ironed out. Two people, even father and daughter, must simply stop in their tracks, talk about their problems and leave them behind. The fault here, is that both are strong willed and each blames the other. But real family love will win every time if you will just take a deep breath and let everything out. Talk about it and remember your love for each other is more important than being right or being the winner. Love will win.

Hope you enjoy our show. Jim WalkerDirector

From the Producers: Welcome to our eighth season at the historic Crighton Theatre! Our mission has always been to support the Crighton Theatre through the presentation of quality entertainment. We cannot achieve our mission without your help and support. Last year we managed to break Crighton Theatre Box Office records three times with The Best Christmas Pageant Ever (3,700 patrons), Singin’ in the Rain (3,740) , and Shrek the Musi-cal (4,285)! Your response to these shows was overwhelming. Even more incredible was the talent that sprang from the community to create these awesome shows. We were honored when Singin’ in the Rain was selected as the Best Show of the Year at the 2015 Montie Awards. Our eighth season of Love and Laughter continues to explore productions we have never done before with one exception: Christmas Belles. This comedy has a special meaning to us because it was the first show we ever did as STAGE RIGHT. Christmas Belles spawned a special relationship between us and the authors: Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten. If you haven’t seen this laugh-out-loud comedy described as “The Golden Girls meet A Charlie Brown Christmas” then you are in for a treat. We start our season with the comedy-drama On Golden Pond. We would like to think that our family is nothing like the Thayers. On the surface the story is about senior citizens dealing with life: frayed father-daughter relationships, health and mental issues, and deal-ing with children coming of age. We can laugh at Norman’s idiosyncrasies while quietly acknowledging our own. We can be shocked at Billy’s behavior even as we remember how our kids tested us. At the end of the day the play is about our Judeo-Christian concepts that are easy to say but hard to practice: acceptance and forgiveness. Thank you for joining us in our eighth season at the historic Crighton Theatre. Enjoy the show!Steve & Carolyn Wong

Cast anD Crew BIograPhIesDON HAMPTON (Norman Thayer) After an apprenticeship at Houston’s Alley Theatre, and several seasons of Euro-pean touring, Don returned to Texas and graduated from the University of Texas. He then spent twenty-three years working on stage, television and film in NYC. Since returning to Texas he has been active in Crighton Players/Players Theatre Co. appearing in the title role of Macbeth, as Eddie, in Lost in Yonkers and as Otto Frank in Diary of Anne Frank, Joe Keller in All My Sons, as Cpt. Markinson in A Few Good Men and as Oliver’s grand-father in OLIVER. He has also directed Philadelphia Story, What The Butler Saw, Night of The Iguana, Cukoo’s Nest and To Kill A Mockingbird, Inherit The Wind and Almost Maine for the Players. For Texas Repertory Theatre Company he had the pleasure of appearing as Editor Webb in Our Town in the inaugural production and subsequently as Oberon and Thy-seus in their production of A Midsummer Nights Dream as well as You Can’t Take It With You and Leading Ladies. On the technical side he is a Tommy Tune Award nominee for sets and lights as tech direc-tor at Magnolia High School and a two time recipient of the MONTIE Award for set design. He designed last year’s Di-xie Swim Club for STAGE RIGHT. For the eighth year Don will return to the Texas Renaissance Festival as the Master of Arms/MC of the Joust, combining two of his joys in life; performing and horseback riding. Don is represented for film and television by Pastorini-Bosby Agency. For theatrical work he can be contacted directly at 713-502-7597.

MARILYN MOORE (Ethel Thayer) Mari-lyn has been a participant in Community Theatre in Conroe since 1988. Her most

recent roles include Dorothy in Stepping Out at the Owen Theatre, Aunt Abbey in Arsenic and Old Lace at Huntsville Commu-nity Theatre, and Miss Daisy in Driving Miss Daisy for Stage Right at the Crighton The-atre. Marilyn has rescued cats, dogs, and horses for all of her (getting to be) very long life. She asks that the audience visu-alizing the wonders of nature On Golden Pond, take it into their hearts to donate to our League Line Road Horse/Conroe 200. Late in July, these horses were rescued from unspeakable conditions by the Hous-ton SPCA. This organization is making val-iant efforts to rehabilitate these survivors and are in desperate need of funds. May we transform this cruelty through love. God Bless.

JENNIFER HENNESSY MARSHALL (Op-erator/Props/Set Dressing) Jennifer is ex-tremely excited to continue her relation-ship with STAGE RIGHT and The Crighton Theater as the Operator. She enjoys being the comic relief in any production. Jenni-fer has been involved in the theater since her first production in the fifth grade. She has always loved being on the stage, but is now enjoying participating behind the scenes, as well. There is always something new to learn in the theater and Jennifer wants to know it all! As always, she would like to thank her family for their support. Especially her husband Glen, who doesn’t understand her fascination for doing something you don’t get paid for, but lets her pursue her passion anyway and is there for every production cheering her on.

ALLEN DORRIS (Charlie) Allen has per-formed in various theatres in Conroe and the Houston area. He was fortunate to be in the STAGE RIGHT production of Love

Page 8: Director’s Lettercrighton/resources/... · 2015. 9. 26. · Director’s Letter Spending your life with someone you dearly love has to be a wonderful experience. Being at a place

Letters. His hobbies are sleeping, eating, living and of course, acting! If only he could! Allen would like to thank Jim Walk-er, Carolyn Wong and the talented cast of On Golden Pond for the patience of not exterminating.

KIMBERLY BRYANT (Chelsea Thayer Wayne) Previous credits include Crimes of the Heart (Lenny), Dirty Rotten Scoun-drels (Muriel), Annie Get Your Gun (Annie Oakley), Bye, Bye, Birdie (Rose), Company (Sarah), Guys and Dolls (Sarah Brown), and The Music Man (Marion), A Few Good Men (Lt. Jo Galloway), Julius Caesar (Portia). A former Director of Theatre for Magno-lia Independent School District, Kim now works as the School Days Coordinator for the Texas Renaissance Festival. Kim holds an MA in Theatre from the University of Houston, where her studies allowed her to train with such groups as The Actors Studio of Chicago, The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London and Lincoln Cen-ter in New York.

IAN MONTEZ (Billy Ray) Ian has been act-ing since he was a small child. His first per-formance with STAGE RIGHT was as Jack-ie in Cheaper By the Dozen when he was six years old. His most recent performances were the role of Ralphie in 2013’s A Christ-mas Story and Buck Wayne in Bravo Co.’s production of Flapper!. Ian has been a member of Bravo Co. for 6 years. He at-tends McCullough Junior High and loves acting, painting, and playing guitar and is excited to play Billy Ray in this production.

JIM KING (Bill Ray) A student of the dra-matic arts for many years, Jim began his career in acting while attending Texas A&M in the late eighties. A part of the Ag-gie Players, he participated in productions of King Lear, Hamlet, Macbeth and The Robber Bridegroom as well as the setup

and tear down for the Broadway musical Cats. After studying acting at Sam Houston State University for two years, Jim joined up with the King’s Fishermen in the Wood-lands and performed lead roles in such productions as Papa Was a Preacher, a Neil Simon play called God’s Favorite, Christ in the Concrete City, as well as many others. Always active in the community, Jim lent his talents to the children’s ministry at Fel-lowship of the Woodlands for many years. His performances at the Crighton include The Carol Burnett Show, Arsenic and Old Lace, and most recently he was the stage manager for the musical hit Hairspray.

CrewJIM WALKER (Director) I have been in-volved with the Crighton and Owen The-atres for almost 40 years. Like so many other actors, I included my children in the theater magic. While participating in about 100 plays I have had the pleasure of directing over twenty of them. All that work paid off as I was recently honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the annual Montie Awards. Some of my favorite directorial projects include Driv-ing Miss Daisy, Steel Magnolias, Radio TBS, M*A*S*H and Smoke on the Mountain. Retiring from Entergy in 2002 afforded me the opportunity to indulge my inter-est in the history and culture of Texas. I have visited every major battle site of the Texas Revolution. I am currently Vice-President of The Friends of the Flag Foun-dation, which maintains the Flag integrity at the Lone Star Monument and Historical Flag Park in Conroe. I am also a member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas and the Montgomery County Historical Com-mission. Factoid: I was at President Ken-nedy’s assassination and the photographs I took of the parade and other sites that day have been donated to the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealy Plaza in Dallas where

two of them are in a current display. My picture of the Texas Theater is for sale in their gift shop. It is the only photograph in their collection ever offered for sale.

MARIEDA KILGORE (Asst. Director/Cos-tumer/Set dressing) Marieda’s first ap-pearance in 1997, as Vera in Smoke on the Mountain solidified her love for the the-atre. Costuming has been a great joy (as well as some frustration) on shows from White Christmas, Driving Miss Daisy, Steel Magnolias (where she costumed the ma-jority of the cast from her own closet) and most recently The Dixie Swim Club, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever and Singin’ in the Rain. She is honored to be a Montie Award Winner for the show Gypsy. Marie-da blogs as The Closet Fairy and is a Per-sonal Fashion Stylist. To ensure she has no spare time, she sings with the Christ Jesus Gospelaires, is the Secretary for the Players Theatre Company Board and two non-profits: The Friends of the Flag Foun-dation and Raising a Hand for Rett. Lee, her husband of 35 years, has graciously allowed Marieda to spend endless hours slaving away at the theatre. She thanks every person who has worn her costumes on stage and those who have become dear friends and colleagues.

JILL VILLALOBOS (Stage Manager) was introduced to the Crighton Theatre as an audience member after seeing The Dixie Swim Club last Fall. This lead her to volunteer backstage. She was welcomed and initiated as running crew in The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. This lead to Sin-gin’ in the Rain as her first production as a stage manager. She was additionally part of the teams for Shrek: The Musical and The Trip to Bountiful. She would like to thank the STAGE RIGHT family and Jim Walker, Director, for an additional oppor-tunity to be involved.

MELODY MONTEZ (Sound Design/Sound Engineer/Light Engineer) Melody attend-ed Sam Houston State as a theatre major and has performed in and directed many shows at the Crighton Theatre for the past 20 years. She has been with STAGE RIGHT since their very first production, Christmas Belles, in which she portrayed Rhonda Lynn. She was also Savannah in the World Premiere of Jones, Hope, and Wooten’s Mama Won’t Fly. Most recently, she directed The Red Velvet Cake War, 2013’s A Christmas Story, and played Lexi in The Dixie Swim Club and Jessie Mae in The Trip to Bountiful. Melody teaches the teen acting class for Bravo Company, the STAGE RIGHT Children’s Educational Wing and currently works at McCullough Junior High. Melody is thrilled to be a watch-ing her son, Ian Montez, from the sound booth.

ROGER ORMISTON (Light Design) has per-formed on stage in over 40 productions since 1974. He currently works behind the scenes at both the Owen Theatre and the Crighton Theatre in Conroe. He lives in Conroe with his wife, Shann Powers and two dog-ters, Shelby and Maggie. He is a home inspector and owner of 123 Home Inspections. Roger won a Montie Award for his light design for Singin’ in the Rain.

DENNIS O’CONNOR (Master Carpenter) I build the sets for STAGE RIGHT. I’ve been on stage as an actor for 53 years. I’m in-spired by Chaplin, The Grateful Dead, Kerouac, Kurt Vonnegutt Jr., Hunter S. Thompson, Robin Williams and a host of anyone that refuses to take the birth and death cycle seriously. I implore you to support The Historic Crighton Theatre and STAGE RIGHT. Ya get a good meal...ya tip generously right? Jonah, Denny, and Emmy...I miss you.

On Golden PondSept. 11 – 27, 2015Auditions: July 19 & 20, 2015By Ernest Thompson

Cantankerous retiree Norman Thayer and his concil-iatory wife, Ethel, spend summers at their New Eng-land vacation home on the shores of idyllic Golden Pond. This year, their adult daughter, Chelsea, vis-its with her new fiancée and his teenage son, Billy, on their way to Europe. After leaving Billy behind to bond with Norman, Chelsea returns, attempting to repair the long-strained relationship with her ag-ing father before it’s too late. A touching, funny and warmly perceptive study of a spirited and lovable elderly couple facing their twilight years.

Christmas BellesDec. 4 – 20, 2015Auditions: Oct. 4 & 5, 2015By Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope & Jamie Wooten

A church Christmas pageant spins hilariously out of control in this Southern farce about squabbling sisters, fam-ily secrets, a surly Santa, a vengeful sheep and a reluctant Elvis impersonator. Brought back by pop-ular demand: come join us again for a sidesplitting Christmas in Fayro!

The ProducersFeb. 12 – 28, 2016Auditions: Nov. 15 & 16, 2015Book by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan Music and Lyrics by Mel Brooks Based on the 1968 Film

The votes are in! Our patrons selected The Produc-ers for our February show. A scheming producer and his mousy accountant aim to produce the big-gest flop on Broadway in Mel Brooks’ laugh-out-loud spectacle. Described as an equal opportunity offender!

RumorsApril 15 – May 1, 2016Auditions: Feb. 15 & 16, 2016By Neil Simon

Four couples arrive at the townhouse of a deputy New York City mayor and his wife to attend a party celebrating their tenth wedding anniversa-ry. However, the four couples soon discover that there are no servants, the hostess is miss-ing and the deputy mayor has shot himself in the head (it’s only a flesh wound). Comic complications arise when, given everyone’s upper class status, they decide they need to do everything possible to conceal the evening’s events from the local police and the media.

Legally Blonde – The MusicalJuly 8 – 24, 2016Auditions: April 26 & 27, 2016Book by Heather HachMusic and Lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell BenjaminBased on the novel by Amanda Brown and the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer motion picture

A fabulously fun international award-winning musi-cal based on the adored movie, Legally Blonde The Musical, follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes, snobbery, and scan-dal in pursuit of her dreams. This action-packed musical explodes on the stage with memorable songs and dynamic dances. Equal parts hilarious and heart-warming, this musical is so much fun it should be illegal!
