Take It On Q&As Hear from people that have made it BIG in their industry. Put your questions to The Script, Wretch 32, Gabrielle Aplin, Nick Grimshaw, Zane Lowe, the cast of EastEnders and many, many more.
Design In association with Sinead Doyle Design and Fab Lab plus other top industry professionals Learn the skills needed to make a limited edition t-shirt for BBC
Radio 1’s Big Weekend using techniques such as illustration, collage and screen printing. Work with industry professionals to Pimp the Presenter by making bespoke clothing & accessories for a Radio 1 DJ. Make a canvas bag for Children in Need and put it on sale in the Radio 1 Academy Pop-up Shop. Get a taste of set design and create the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge backdrop.
Music In association with Bounce Education Work alongside professional DJs and producers to build beats, mix music for Radio 1 and hone your DJ performance skills. This is your big chance to grab opportunities such as performing between the main acts on the BBC Introducing stage or hear your mixes played on air.
Radio In association with BBC Radio 1, Newsbeat and BBC Radio Foyle Get the chance to work alongside BBC Radio 1 and local presenters and producers to produce content for the radio. No tech experience required, just a love of radio! Learn basic radio production skills and develop links with local radio stations. Then hear what you’ve made on air!
TV Production In association with EastEnders and 6Degrees Learn how to direct a scene in a TV drama. Auditioning for that must-have role? We’ve got the know-how to help you. With hands on practical advice we’ll help to provide you with the professional skills needed in the world of TV and beyond.
Journalism In association with Verbal Arts Centre Take It On and design your own magazine. Get your articles and photographs published in the Academy online publication. Ever fancied writing for one of the local newspapers? Learn all the tools you need from our guest editors and journalists and see your material published in their next issue.
Business In association with Young Enterprise Northern Ireland, School Employer Connections and Fab LabRadio 1’s Phil Taggart and Alice Levine challenge you to become the next Lord Alan Sugar! Learn the basics of marketing your ideas and making money with our business panel masterclasses with very special guests. Meet local business leaders and entrepreneurs and be inspired to take it on yourself!
Digital Technology In association with Coder Dojo and Outsider Games plus other top industry insidersDo you want to set up your own website? Build your own game? Use creative tools to manipulate media? This is your chance to work alongside top creatives. Talk through your ideas with those in the know, work with some of the nation’s best games makers to create a brand new game.
Putting on EventsIn association with Oh Yeah Centre, Glasgowbury, Bounce Education, CultureTECH and Nerve CentreEver wanted to run a guest list or stage-manage an event? This is your chance to work alongside the BBC Introducing stage crew. Why not plan your own club night or outdoor festival with top experts!
BBC Radio 1’s Academy is the place to Get Inspired, Get Involved & Take It On. There will be FREE practical workshops on music, radio, journalism, digital technology, design, business, TV production and putting on events.
You’ll also get the chance to put questions to people who have already made it, as well as finding out more from those who are just starting out.
It’s a place to get up close and personal with those in the know, including The Script, Wretch 32, Gabrielle Aplin, Nick Grimshaw, Sara Cox, Greg James, Zane Lowe, Huw Stephens, Phil Taggart and Alice Levine.
Plus there will be sessions with Newsbeat, EastEnders, 6Degrees, local organisations and self-made millionaires.
