Question No. 1 Discuss the various types of audio techniques and exercises that can be used for training.

Audio- aids are devices that appeal to the eyes and ears of the learners. Audio-Visual aids are used to support your presentation. They are not a substitute for what you have to say, but guide your audience through your material, help you to keep your place and highlight significant points. Similarly exercises also enhance your training programs.

The following are few Audio techniques that can be used during a training program:

PICTURESMost learners are visual minded, so pictures are a great help in teaching. They remind the learner of the meaning and help him/her communicate. They help the trainer save his/her voice. Also the same pictures may be used for several purposes, and for review purposes.

FLASHCARDSThese are pieces of cards large enough for the whole class to see. These may be either drawings, magazine cut-outs, pictures, written words or numbers. They are called flash cards because they are shown to the training session for a short time. The words, phrases or sentences written on them should be written in thick, high and block letters.

VIDEO/TV FILMSTRIPSAs a trainer always watch them and listen to their soundtracks before using them in training session. You may teach vocabulary, grammar, culture, pronunciation, etc. through video films.

HANDOUTSHandouts are for taking away! Remember though that the same rule won’t always apply to passing an object around. It was suggested earlier that handouts might be used to cover fine detail. Well yes, but after your show is over - or even before it begins.

FLIPCHARTSA flipchart is very good for involving your audience. It is also an excellent medium for providing responses to questions. However, it will be seen to have limited scope in a crowded room, especially when the seating isn’t raked, as it is relatively small in size

AUDIOAudio is often overlooked but can be a most effective aid.Equipment and materials are commonly available; most of us have some means of recording and playing sounds.

SOUNDSSounds or music may simply be used as background while your audience takes its place. All audio-visual aids require a little imagination to make them truly effective and when the audio and the visual are brought together, either one can reinforce the effect of the other.

OVERHEAD PROJECTORThe OHP, as it is known (and so is the transparency placed on it) is one of the simplest of devices used to deliver images to an audience, excepting of course those already mentioned which are print or writing dependent. It is a good, all-round aid that has no real need of "high-tech" skills. It can be quite versatile and offers variety. Transparencies can be made by writing, drawing, painting, photocopying and printing and all in colour if required.
