Women in tech

The gender gap in Tech is well known and the situation wont change if we dont actively encourage girls/women to enter the industry and showcase the opportunities on offer.In an effort to get a community group up and running to lead a Women in Tech initiative, we are holding a meeting for all those interested in supporting and guiding the way forward.Come along at 5.30pm. Our first aim will be to get a committee set up to take this forward, to discuss the priorities and aims of such a group and to find role models who can inspire and inform.

hackathonsuHack: Jerseys only Youth Hackathon. 24 hours of straight coding and creating. This year we saw the creation of Parking Apps, Microbit Games, Virtual Reality Software and much more.Hackathon: Its all Hack and Games. Techies from across the island competed in the 40-hour coding marathon, creating computer games, a room security device and a web app to organise football matches.

Jersey CodersIf you are a teen (or the lucky parent of one) and interested in technology, why not consider joining the after school coding club for techie teens. We have a group for games programmers, electronic enthusiasts and web developers. All levels of experience are welcome, from the absolute novice to the modest genius.We meet every Wednesday during term time at 6.15 for 1h 45mins of techie fun. Grainville business & Enterprise courseDigital Jersey, working in partnership with The Department of Education and John McGuinness, Head teacher of Grainville School, have developed a vocational specialism Business & Enterprise Course.The course is the first of its kind in the Island and has been designed as a practical response to Jerseys current skills gap, with a view to building up the Islands long-term talent pipeline. It started in September 2015, students aged 14-16 from Grainville School have been receiving training from business leaders in workshops held at the Digital Jersey Hub, alongside opportunities to apply those skills in real-life business environments.
