Platform Overview - PDF

Flat .pdf These files are not protected (no digital rights management) which means students can copy, print, etc. (not good)3

You can highlight. You will have to scroll through to see your notes (no easy way to see all highlighted notes) in .pdf format.

But pagination is exactly as the book. 4

Exact copy of the book highlighting through the Adobe reader notice it is at 45% (next slide 100%)TOC and chapters on the left

You can highlight. You will have to scroll through to see your notes (no easy way to see all highlighted notes) in .pdf format. But pagination is exactly as the book.6Platform Overview Vital Source (Picture Book)

3rd party. Many publishers use this common platform. User experience is consistent throughout. Similar to the .pdf (is a direct screen capture of the book). TOC on the left side. Notes tab will keep them all cataloged for you for later reference.7Vital Source / Picture Book is delivered 2 ways:CD Rom lab license (computer lab) - 6 1 YR access codesThey have reserved 1 seat in their computer lab for each students using that computer.Mobile PAC (iPads / Tablets) 6 1 YR access codesCode per student and allows for three main applications:(1) book shelf viewer which is driven by a desktop computer - allows for online and offline access (2) ipad and Android devices which support online access through the app (3) web based requires a web connection. Any change in one will be synched to the others (it will ask if you want to accept changes). You have book on book shelf and in the cloud.

Lab license is per machine. School is purchasing a license for a computer not number of students. No one can take the book it belongs to the machine. If they go to the PAC distribution model it would be per student. Lab license they can still highlight and take notes but it will be synched among all students since it really belongs to the machine (so all students would see all notes/highlights, etc.).8

Highlight and take notes. It catalogs it under the Notes tab over to the left10

There is not a lot of interaction, but it does keep content protected with Vital Source. It has DRM (digital rights management) around it. This allows us to lock down our content and control the subscription length and how students can use the content (copy, paste, and print).

Vitalsource.com bookshelf. For lab you get an I-CodeStudents in K-6 would not be able to access it due to age restrictionsIf student makes a change to the bookshelf or to the online version, as long as they have a Vital Source account, it will synch for them13

This is the Vital Source bookshelf viewer that a student would download to the Vital Source website.Student is given the code. We will provide 6 1-year access codes). The CD Rom lab-based model will already be set up for the students in the lab. 14

Student would redeem their code; enter the code. The code already has the title of the text, the subscription length. The DRM is already in the code. Once they redeem the code, the title will be on the bookshelf.

View of all titles in bookshelf. The means the title has expired; they are no longer active.

Platform Overview CLeBook (Interactive ebook)

Proprietory ebook platform. We are the only ones who have it. Good experience on a computer screen. CleBook also a component of CourseMate; does not really look like printed book. Not the best experience but can be viewed on iPad (Kindle Fire). 17
