IntroductionMind the Gaps is a 6 month Film and Animation project for adults with disabilities to develop new skills that will nurture confidence and creative self expression
This is a community focused project funded by The Big Lottery Fund
ARRCC is a local charity that provides creative workshops and day care for adults with disabilities.
There are currently centres in Rye, Folkestone and Bexhill.
Activities available at the centres include Arts and Crafts, Sewing, Cooking, Music and Holistic Therapy.
Screen South is a Creative Development agency delivering and supporting innovative projects across screen-based media and the wider cultural and creative industries.
Screen South has years of experience, contacts and expertise within the film industry
Based in Folkestone at the heart of the Creative Quarter
StructureIn the first 3 months participants will:
• Learn filmmaking techniques • Develop ideas • Work in small group of 3-4 people • Complete a 1- 5 minute short film • Screen films
StructureIn the second 3 month participants will:
• Reflect on their films, identifying strengths and weaknesses • Using the lessons learnt from the first film, make a 5-
10 minute short film • All films will be screened at a gala event open to the
public
Why?This project encourages disabled people to:
• Learn new skills and gain new experiences • Gain access to new technology and professional expertise • Express and explore personal identity and externalise
feelings • Promotes social inclusion and helps to develop a richer
community identity.
