TYPES OF PHOTOGRAPHY
NATURE
Nature photography is photography taken outdoors displaying natural elements such as landscapes, wildlife, plants, and close-ups of
natural scenes and textures.
ABOVE: This an image I found from Bill Atkinson’s website.
I think the photo I have selected is a good example of nature photography as it displays the trees in their natural habitat surrounded by many other plants and trees and captivatesThe natural scenery around them.
Above: My image I took for nature photography
Here is an image I took in which I believe is also a good example of nature photography, What I was trying to achieve is capturing the trees in their natural form but also giving the photo character, so here I found a large plant that had a gap looking into the field on the other side of the trees, so that I was capturing two scenes of nature in one shot.
Nature photography has changed dramatically in the past 100 years due to the new use of technology and gadgets
that are around today. The new use of technology and gadgets are more reliable and accurate to capture photos, they’ve even become more HD with the use of mega pixels to really capture good looking photos. It also enables us to capture close up shots of nature that you couldn’t of got in the past, we can now zoom in and out to capture all sorts of
shots of wildlife in their natural habitat.
HISTORY OF NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY
PORTRAIT
Portrait photography (portraiture) is a type of photography of a person or a group of people that displays their expression, personality, and mood.
Above: Kim Gregory’s portraitPhotography.
Kim Gregory’s photograph of a little girllaughing is a great example of portrait photographyas it captures her expression and the mood she is in,In one photo.
Above: My image for portrait photography
Here is my image of a friend I took, I wanted to achieve to mainly focus on her facial expression and her mood, here I believe I have done so, as it shows her being amusing by pulling a silly face to give the photoA friendly effect, her mood is obviously shown to bepositive and happy which makes the photo funny to look at.
Portrait photography has changed a lot in the past century, thanks to the use of technology and gadgets we can use nowadays.
Now portrait photography catches the expression, personality and mood of a person or a group of people in a shot.
Portrait photography also focus's on the face although the body an background can be included.
HISTORY OFPORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY
FINE ART
Fine art photography is what a photographer visualizes as a personal piece of creative art.
Image above: By Scott Mead
Here is an image by Scott Meade, I believe this is a great example of fine art
photography as the light reflections and mirrors really give a impact on the photo, it makes it look bigger than it actually is but also gives it a busy look which makes us
want to look at the whole photo as there is a lot going on.
Image Above: My image for fine art
photography
Here is my image I took in which I believe represents as fine art photography, I
believe the rock climbing wall has many characteristics about its self... it's big, bold and has many shapes around it's self. Also, the colours from the different rocks on the wall make it stand out more, it shows up
the darker areas of the wall.
Thanks to technology, fine are images today are better quality with use of megapixels, over the past 100 years fine
art photographs use to be in black & white colours, now fine art photography has become more colourful but
accurate (photos aren't blurry etc) as cameras were very slow back then compared to now. We also don't need the
use of film we can digitally upload it and print it off easily instead of processing print. We can also see what the photo
looks like before we print it instantly with the use of the screen and preview tool we have on a digital camera. If the photo isn't good we can just delete it and retake it easily.
HISTORY OF FINE ART
LANDSCAPE
Landscape photography of Brisbane by Matt Lauder
Definition: A shot taken in its natural form. Here is a landscape photo by Matt Lauder and I
believe its a great example of landscape photography as he has captured the city in its
natural form showing off the beautiful aspects of the light reflecting on to the water along with the different heights of the buildings with the bridge
being the center of attention which draws us instantly towards it.
With the photo I have took I wanted to capture a landscape photo of the buildings around my flat but have the trees block some of the buildings. I also wanted to capture the clouds that blended in with the bright blue sky, I also liked the fact St.Mary's Church is the tallest building in my
shot, it looks really effective and not busy instead it catches the viewers to draw right
towards it.
Image above: My image for landscape
photography
Landscape photography has grown to become much better than they were in the past, thanks to the use of improved technology landscape photography is more accurate and
better quality than it has been before. We can tell the attitude towards landscape photography has massively
changed as there as so many different types of landscape photography people decide to take (mountains, woods to
famous city's like New York City).
HISTORY OF LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY
FASHION
Definition: is a type of photography devoted to displaying fashion and other
fashion items.
Image above: By Melissa Rodwell
I believe Melissa Rodwell's photo of a model wearing clothes to promote them is a great example of fashion photography as you have
your typical model wearing clothes and posing in different ways to promote the
piece of clothing she is wearing.
Here is my photo of what I believe is a good example of fashion photography is because my friend is posing with the bag making it
stand out by the way she holding it by also by the way she is stood and how she is looking away, I wanted to achieve that the items of
fashion have more of the attention instead of the typical models looking at the camera, I
wanted to make the clothes stand out more.
Fashion photography has changed massively over the recent years as the use of technology that makes it more
high quality but also with the use of software like Photoshop that manipulate the looks of a model but altering
their looks by making their skin look clearer and better with the airbrush tool but also changing the shape of their facial features and the making it more enhanced so they
look perfect which is misleading as they don't actually look like that, its making them look like they're something
they're not.
HISTORY OFFASHION PHOTOGRAPHY
ADVERTISING
Here is a great example of advertising photography by Johnathan Knowles as it not only focus's on the product that is being promoted but also the model
who has a six pack, What also makes is a great example is the joke slogan that has been included,
this gives the advert a warm but funny feeling as its not being manipulated instead a laugh.
Here is an image i took of when i
received Gerard Way's new record, i shared this so that
other people can see it and encourage them to get his
album.
Advertising has changed the same
way as fashion photography has, they now also use
different software's in order to manipulate products better than
they actually are.
DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHY
Here is a photo by Edward Thompson
showing a child to be quite emotional, this is a good example as it really captures the emotion of the child. It also gives us a few ideas of the child's
story (poor, homeless or sick)before
reading the writing about the photo.
Here is my image I took of my friends whilst on a school trip in New York in central park whilst
having a talk with the tour guide about the
many films taken place there. I believe
this is a good example as it shows
them being there selves in a photo but also displaying there natural emmotion.
definition - used to show significant and historical events and
everyday life.
With the use of newtechnology and
cameras,documentary
photographers can now
take better and morehigh quality photos
withbigger and improved
cameras to show more detail in the
photo but also a more clearer view of the
shot.
