Plots written for this sub-genre often include typical things like guns or other weapons. The constant suspense in the films will always make you be on the edge of your seat.

Physiological thriller

These type of films often include tension between the main characters and they deal with the problems they face both mentally and emotionally.

The characters in this certain sub-genre often get themselves into situations which are very hard to get out of.

People’s mental abilities are often tested instead of their physical abilities.

The characters are often also portrayed as being very smart and they’re able to solve mysteries.

Crime thriller

Crime thrillers often involve lots of of violence, this is done in order give the audience anxiety. This makes them anticipate what is to come next.

Crime is based around the plans and motivates of a criminal who majority of the time has a plan.

The films will also focus on whether the main character will be successful with what he/she is trying to do.

Horror thriller

This sub-genre often includes someone who is mentally ill that kills innocent people.

They emotions which they present to the audience is fear and terror.

The whole purpose of the film would be to play with the audiences emotions. The atmosphere which is presented throughout the film is fear and this is done to make the audience feel very frightened.

How are the sub-genres different to each other?

All of the sub-genres are similar in certain ways. However, each one is different because it focuses on something specific.

In comedy thrillers the main focus would be to combine a mixture of suspense and humor, where as action thrillers will focus on suspense, adrenaline and tension while also having emphasis on fear.

Another difference is in psychological thrillers, characters often battle their own minds and the plot is mainly based on the characters lives. On the other hand, action thrillers focus on violence and they also make the audience think something dangerous is about to happen.
