Introduction ➢ On the night of April 18, 1775, Paul Revere

set out on his famous ride in order to warn the colonists that the British Regulars were coming. He also set out to warn John Hancock and Sam Adams that the British wanted to arrest them. Many people say that his ride affected the outcome of the war, but did it really?

Our Opinion Paul Revere’s ride did not change the effects or outcome of the war. Now people might disagree with this, however, there is supporting evidence for our statement.

Supporting Evidence

➢ If Paul Revere’s had never gone on his ride, Hancock and Adams would still have received the warning from William Dawes.

➢ General Gage never ordered the British to look for Hancock and Adams, rendering Revere’s warning to them useless

➢ If the message that the British were coming never got to Concord, it may not have had a tremendous effect because Concord was already on alert from a message days before and were hiding their weapons and supplies.

➢ Other riders were spreading the same news as Revere.

John Hancock

Sam Adams

Supporting Evidence Pt. 2

➢ There were around six hours between the British marching west out of Lexington and started the withdrawal east of Concord

➢ The outcome would have been the same without Revere: *British would fail to get weapons in Concord *Regulars would have encountered Minutemen, which would have lead to shooting *British would have still finished their withdrawl to Boston.

Conclusion

In conclusion certain events affecting that battle were already occurring or would almost certainly have occurred without Revere's ride. Its true that without Revere, the message would not have spread as quickly as it did, but it still would have spread. Paul Revere's ride might not have changed the order of events at all and was just a journey made famous by a poem.
