many people in the area as possible. You can all help by liking and sharing our facebook and twitter pages.
Feedback from other Teaching School Alliances suggests this in one of the best ways of attracting applicants.
Any submissions for the weekly bulletin to be sent to [email protected] by midday each Thursday.

CPD Programme
Middle Leadership Development Programme “Middle leaders are enthusiasts for their subject, good managers and administrators - but to be truly effective they embrace the more challenging characteristics of leadership, which are to do with vision, strategy and a drive towards improvement.” – Mike Cladingbowl, National Director, Ofsted
We will once again be running this highly successful programme during the 2016 – 17 academic year. This programme gives delegates the opportunity to develop their skills, confidence and knowledge to focus on driving successful team performance and improving outcomes for learners.
Drawing from materials produced by NCTL and the NY Leadership Academy, the programme will include face-to-face training sessions, school-based development tasks, and a residential element.
The programme will aim to:
Improve the quality of Middle Leadership in schools
Enhance understanding of the mechanics of leadership
Enhance understanding of the personal qualities of leadership to modify individual
responses to achieve impact
Ensure an impact of middle leadership upon an aspect of school improvement
Link personal development to school improvement in order to identify the impact of middle
leadership across the school
Enhance middle leader effectiveness to support career and professional development
opportunities
Who should apply? Individuals working in any age phase with responsibility for leading an aspect within a school, which may be a team of staff, Key Stage, department, subject or curriculum area.
Sherburn, Tadcaster and Rural Teaching School Alliance
Recent feedback from delegates: It was fantastic; everything we covered was incredibly useful and contacts and working
relationships we made were invaluable. It helped me to recognise how to move forward in my career It has helped me to think in terms of 'the big picture' within school; has improved my
understanding of the importance of communicating with and securing engagement from stakeholders; has made me think about my potential role in coaching others and sharing good practice.
The programme is structured throughout the academic year, starting on 8th November with an initial ½ day introductory session; Friday/ Saturday residential on 27th & 28th January 2017 at Monk Fryston Hall Hotel; and a final ½ day session on 25th May 2017. Between sessions there will be tasks to complete in own schools, relevant to each individual context. Delegates must commit to attendance at all sessions.
The focus is development of knowledge and attributes relating to leadership. This contributes to personal and professional growth. The programme will provide some useful tools and approaches to work in schools. Delegates will need to translate how these could work in their own unique circumstance.
Delegates should have a coach nominated in school to assist with the inter-sessional tasks and to act as a ‘critical friend’. This is an important part of the programme.
Places are limited to 20 for the 2016/17 cohort
Course Tutors
Rick Weights, NLE and headteacher at Monk Fryston CE Primary School
Chris Power, headteacher at Barkston Ash RC Primary School
Training Session Dates: 8th November 2016 27th & 28th January 2017 25th May 2017
Cost
£360 per delegate for STAR Alliance members
£400 per delegate for non-member schools
This includes all course materials, face-to-face sessions, and a full-board residential at Monk Fryston Hall Hotel. Each delegate will be given a pack of information and resources to take away from the training.
