Teaching Medical Sonography

Diagnostic sonography is an ultrasound-based diagnostic

imaging technique used to visualize subcutaneous body

structures including tendons, muscles, joints, vessels and

internal organs for possible pathology or lesions. Obstetric

sonography is commonly used during pregnancy and is

widely recognized by the public. Sonography can be en-

hanced with Doppler measurements, which employ the

Doppler effect to assess whether blood are moving towards

or away from the probe, and its relative velocity.

The experimentation sets for medical sonography focus on

the understanding of the observed signals and images in

the context of medical diagnostics. For this realistic dummies

are used e.g. an arm dummy with stenosis or a breast dummy

with tumour. Additionally the ultrasound is used to demon-

strate the principle and formation of computer tomography.
