Page 1: Development

Governor Andrew Cuomo recognizes that Buffalo's waterfront is a unique asset that must be fully utilized to attract people and businesses to our community. The Governor's vision for a redeveloped waterfront is becoming a reality through the work of the Empire State Development and Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation (ECHDC).

As a result, our waterfront is being transformed with multiple locations for people to access and enjoy the water's edge. This year more than one million people will visit Canalside for concerts, exercise, family activities, relaxation and food. Right now, the area's historic canals are being recreated to provide a centerpiece for growing public and private projects. When winter comes, you will see skaters gliding along the newly built canals, much as they do in similar historic locations in Canada and Europe. Further, the Outer Harbor is now home to the first New York State park to be located in the City of Buffalo. The newly named Buffalo Harbor State Park is another site that invites residents and visitors to enjoy recreation and relaxation on the waterfront.

There are 1,000 events and activities planned for Canalside this year, so make sure you stay plugged in by heading to our website at www.canalsidebuffalo.com. The website will keep you up-to-date on the ECHDC projects underway, provide information for local history lovers and showcase a wide variety of photos that focus on Buffalo's new waterfront experience.

We are proud to invite you to visit Buffalo's waterfront, a year round destination with something for everyone to enjoy.

Sincerely,

recreational and entertainment facilities serving the city, its people and tourists with new dimension, meaning and scale of development. The program of development was prepared envisioning the public character and to create a citys identity on its waterfront. The urban form integrated with landscape created an enriching experience by responding to the context of water, existing diversity of activities, metaphors representing citys characteristics and as a visually dominant landmark form.

The ProcessThe project was done in 5 months of time by understanding waterfronts, analyzing the site, developing the vision, ideating concepts, developing an area brief and following design strategy, layout and zoning.
