Term 2— Issue 7
12th June 2019
Dear Parents, Half Yearly Reports Your children’s’ reports are being prepared as we speak and will be handed out in the final week of term. The leadership team has been reading these over the last week and it’s great to see the achievements being made across the school. I am sure you will find these informative and give you some information to talk to your child’s teacher during the interviews in the final week of term.
We often talk about the importance of a strong attendance at school. Your child’s potential can be maximised by ensuring they are at school every day. We know there will be illnesses and other reasons at times why they are absent, but a strong attendance is essentials to give them the best chance for their education.
If your child’s attendance report looks like this picture, congratulations – you are giving your child every chance to achieve the best out of their education.
Parent, Teacher and Student Interviews - June 24th to June 27th (Term 2). The online booking website is now open. It will be automatically closed off at 1pm on Tuesday 19th of June. After this date, all other appointments and changes will need to be made with your child's classroom teacher. Note: As part of our formal communication processes at Kilberry Valley Primary School we will be conducting a Parent/Staff/Student - 'Mid-Year Interview' meetings in the week of Monday 24th June to Thursday 27th June.
The main purpose of these interviews is to meet with your child's classroom teacher/s to discuss any questions you have from your child's 'Mid-Year Report' and discuss your child’s learning goals for Semester 2. If you need to speak to a specialist teacher, you can make a separate appointment through the office. You will be able to book your child/ren(s) meetings from the comfort of your own home and get instant confirmation. You will also receive an email confirmation of your time, as well as the flexibility to log in to change or check your interview details at any time until 1pm on Thursday 20th of June. If you do not have access to the internet, we have installed a computer in the office foyer for your use. Just come to the office and use the computer or ring our friendly office staff for assistance.

‘Children Helping Children’ Thank you to those people who have brought bottle tops in and placed then in the tub. Keep them coming! We are asking the school community to save specific plastic bottle tops as mentioned below. We will turn bottle caps collected from our school community into prosthetic limbs. https://envision.org.au A not-for-profit charity Envision has paired up with Rotary to deliver the Helping Hands project, which turns recycled plastic bottle caps into prosthetic hands and arms.
We are particularly after any caps with a #2 or #4 rating on the inside of the caps (under the white seal) These are most commonly found on water, milk, juice and Coke bottles, as well as many other household products. Could you please make sure they are washed and dried before placing them in the box in the foyer . House Athletic Sports What a beautiful day was had by all last Friday for the House Athletic Sports. I was unfortunately unable to get there but have been told it was one of the best ever. The weather was delightful, the organisation was once again, impeccable and the students were their usual selves competitive in a tremendous manner as they supported others and enjoyed the day. Well done everyone! School Disco this Friday 14

SCIENCE - STEM TASK In Prep A this term we have been exploring and investigating sound and light via our Physical Science unit ‘Look! Listen!’.
During our STEM task students investigated kaleidoscopes and the different effects that could be seen with a light source. Students then designed their own kaleidoscope by completing a design
brief. In this design brief they drew a picture of what their kaleidoscope would look like, listed some of the materials they would use to make it. They also made a prediction of the effect
their kaleidoscope may have when placed in the light.

RESPONSIVENESS
VALUES @ KVPS
To help create a sustainable environment Kilberry Valley Primary School has gone
wrapper free EVERYDAY!
What does it look like?
A “wrapper free” lunch box is one that has no plastic wrappers or rubbish that goes to landfill. Use re-useable containers and re-use snap lock bags to build a healthy and rubbish free lunch box. And remember, fruit scraps are not included as rubbish! Kilberry Valley Primary School has a composting program to reduce landfill and to educate students about sustainability.

At Kilberry Valley Primary School, we
believe that student success is dependent
upon good attendance at school. Students
need to attend school regularly in order to
participate fully and gain maximum benefit
from their schooling. Daily attendance
enables students to access a full
education, allowing them to reach their full
potential. Students with poor patterns of
attendance in primary school usually have
poor patterns in secondary school and
often disengage from school. There is a
direct link between school attendance and
achievement in later life. Poor attendance
also makes it difficult for children to form
positive relationships with their peers
therefore, we feel that regular attendance
is essential for KVPS students.
What a fantastic opportunity!
We would like to remind our school community about the opportunity provided to us by the ACE Foundation.
The ACE Foundation provides FREE testing & provision of FREE glasses for all
public primary school students, with vision impairment in the City of Casey.
More than 5000 children tested & 1000 pairs of glasses have been provided as of May 2019.
Voucher and consent forms are available at the office to take up this offer.
There is NO COST to you.
How to help your child with
their reading…
CHANGE OF CLOTHING FOR STUDENTS
We would like to remind parents to provide a change of clothing in children’s
school bags—preferably some clean underwear, track suit pants,
windcheater, shorts or a dress.
This is handy for ALL children in ALL grade levels .
We ask for your co-operation with this matter as our Sick Bay is unable to cope
with the large volume of people requiring changes of clothing.
One of our children in the school community is receiving medical
treatment which puts them at serious risk if they are exposed to
infectious illnesses, in particular: Chicken -Pox, Measles,
Mumps or Shingles.
It is also important that while your child is unwell they remain at home until they
are no longer contagious. Please let us know immediately by calling
the school office on 9702 8688.
As a school community we value your support in relation to the wellbeing of
all our students.
Any parent who wishes to help out in
our classrooms or on excursions, must provide a current Working With Childrens Card (WWCC) to the office.
On the day you come to assist, please come
through the office and sign in using the visitors kiosk you will be given a “Classroom helper Privacy Agreement” to read and sign.
Please ensure you bring your Working With
Childrens Card with you, to display in our lanyard, which you will wear while in the
classroom or on excursions.
If your child is absent from school, please ring the office on 9702 8688
before 9.30am on the morning of the absence or notify us by e-mail
