You wanna learn about

…..right?!

destructive Organizational communication

]  [

It applies to you

organizational communication:

The informal or formal individual and group

communication that takes place in organizational contexts

(the office or any workplace)

LOLZ RIGHT?!

This could be you…

…or this could be you

organizational communication done without the intention of improving the company

Organizational communication

Destructive

This is a little extreme, but you get the point.

it’s basically

The bad individual behaviors that go unnoticed by the consumers/public

bullying

emotional abuse

prejudice

discrimination

“glass ceiling” sexual harassment

verbal abuse

pay discrimination

*

*Glass Ceiling Invisible barrier through which the next level of advancement can be seen, but it is never reached by qualifying employees because of implicit prejudice based on age, ethnicity, sex, and/or political or religious affiliation.

Who uses

destructive

organziational

communication??

Anyone who works in an organization.

The Areas of communication studies that use it:

interpersonal applied Organizational (duh)

To name a few

So…

What’s The big deal?

Because this type of communication is done without the intention of improving the company/workplace, then the company is ultimately what suffers.

Time and Energy go towards these issues instead of the goods/services that the company provides, so time and energy are essentially wasted. Also, The company can get a bad reputation and lose

.

Trust is lost when this happens in the workplace, and it is very hard to get that back, which ruins the work environment completely.

their personal reputation is ruined, their personal credibility is lost, and their talent gets overlooked by the situation at hand.

There are two ways

to think about it

It is because of preexisting issues

#1 Some people are

naturally aggressive, and the way that they act in organizational

settings is the same as in individual settings. Their individual traits

explain their behaviors, and they

can’t help that.

…But does that make it ok?

#2 it’s preventable

Through The integrity of the

organization is reinstated with this strategy to limit negative

aspects of conflict and increase the positive aspects of

conflict. The aim is for the individuals to learn so that

with future conflict, the group outcomes are positive+.

…but is it effective??

My stance!

Even  though  individual  differences  exist  and  will  exist,  they  should  not  get  in  the  way  of  the  organiza9on’s  overall  purpose  that,  collec9vely,  everyone  working  for  it  should  share.    That  purpose  is  what  keeps  everyone  working  together,  and  if  conflicts  should  arise,  everyone  needs  to  con9nue  working  together  to  learn  from  that  conflict  so  it  does  not  happen  again.

Destructive organizational communication is never good for the company or the individuals involved,

But how it is handled can have very serious repercussions. Regardless of how that is done, It is always important to keep the organization’s purpose and best interest the top priorities.
