On behalf of the Board I would like to welcome all attendees to our third annual conference and look forward to a day of learnings and networking.John was appointed Chair of Destination Phillip Island in December 2015. John is Victoria’s longest continuous serving

Tourism, Major Events and Gaming Minister with over 28 years experience in Public Policy, Government and Governance at State and Local Government level.

Danielle Green MPParliamentary Secretary for Regional Victoria, Tourism and Major Events

Official Launch of the Phillip Island and San Remo Visitor Economy Strategy 2035 and Official Opening of the 2016 ConferenceDanielle has represented Melbourne’s north for more than 13 years, having been MP for Yan Yean since 2002. She has also held numerous portfolio roles and is currently Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, Major Events and Regional Victoria.

Danielle chose a career in public sector policy and program management undertaking roles in housing, transport, consumer affairs, ethnic affairs and the Rural Women’s Network.

Peter BingemanNewly appointed CEO — Visit Victoria

Peter was appointed the inaugural CEO of Visit Victoria in May this year. Having achieved a double degree in Economics/Marketing and Philosophy at the University of Melbourne, Peter commenced his fast moving consumer goods career with Procter and Gamble and has since worked for Cadbury-Schweppes, Kraft and Mondelez.

Over the last decade Peter has held senior leadership positions across sales and marketing. He has been instrumental in organisational success where acquisitions have changed the landscape considerably. Peter was most recently appointed as Managing Director, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam and Indochina with Mondelez International.

Having spent almost 4 years living in Singapore and Malaysia, Peter has returned home to Melbourne bringing his global business, change management, and strategic marketing/sales experience to the newly formed Visit Victoria.

Matthew JacksonCEO — Phillip Island Nature Parks

Phillip Island Nature Parks — Visitation Update and New Penguin Parade BuildingMatthew Jackson will present to the group regarding a Phillip Island Nature Parks general update, with focus on visitation over the 2015–16 year, and the New Penguin Parade Building Development.

Matthew is the CEO of Phillip Island Nature Parks one of Australia’s leading eco-tourism and environmental land management organisations. He has extensive management experience within both private and public sectors, including over 20 years’ experience within the wildlife and eco-tourism industry.

Matthew’s experience covers management of captive wildlife collections with 14 years at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and currently 8 years with Phillip Island Nature Parks. This role includes the management of over 1,805 hectares of crown land, with a key focus on restoration and protection of sensitive habitats and enhancing biodiversity, and the commercial management of significant State Government tourism attractions with over 1.3M visitors annually.

Matthew also held the position as General Manager for Australia and New Zealand operations for apparel brand Dickies USA, the largest workwear company globally.

Melanie de SouzaDirector of Marketing — Visit Victoria

Marketing Victoria’s Visitor Economy What is Visit Victoria doing to keep Victoria ahead of the rest of the country in these competitive times? How can our operators stand out to domestic and international visitors and what do we need to do capitalise in the short and long term?

Melanie de Souza is currently the Acting Director of Marketing at Visit Victoria. Melanie is responsible for the development and implementation of creative marketing initiatives to position Melbourne and Victoria as a distinctive and competitive tourist destination, to drive visitation, boost expenditure and extend length of stay. In her division, Melanie oversees Brand Strategy, Advertising, Destination Marketing, Content Development and Communications, Experience Development, Partnership Marketing, Event Marketing, Digital Marketing and International Marketing efforts, including offices across six key international regions who are supported by a Melbourne-based team.

Prior to joining the team at Visit Victoria , Melanie worked for the Oberoi Group of Hotels, both in India and in Australia, in regional sales and marketing roles. She has a BA (Hons) in Economics and a Master of Business Administration.

Charles DavidsonPeninsula Hot Springs Chair — Victoria Tourism Industry Council

Creating Transformational Experiences and Growing Through CollaborationIn eleven years of operation, Peninsula Hot Springs has become a much loved and respected lifestyle and tourism attraction on the Mornington Peninsula. Its vision is to ‘be recognised and loved globally for creating immersive hot springs

experiences that are inspired by nature and respect all cultures’. It aims to help visitors ‘relax in nature and connect with the deep well of their being.’ Charles Davidson, founder and CEO, will share his story providing insight into the most important elements that have enabled it to grow and continue to evolve.

CEO and Co-Founder of Peninsula Hot Springs, Australia’s first commercial, natural hot mineral spring bathing facility that attracts more than 430,000 visitors each year and employs 240 staff. From 1992, Charles spent 11 years in international trade including four years at the Australian Embassy in Japan, where he became enchanted with open air onsen and had a dream to connect people with each other and their environment through hot spring bathing. Since then Charles has been on a health and wellbeing learning journey that has taken him to more than 1,000 bathing facilities in over 30 countries and led him to develop Peninsula Hot Springs, which recently won the 2016 Global Winner of Luxury Mineral Springs Spa as well as being twice included in the Victorian Tourism Awards Hall of Fame as Victoria’s Best Tourist Attraction and Best Health and Wellbeing Tourism Facility. Charles has recently been appointed as Chair of the Victoria Tourism Industry Council (VTIC).

Steve Sammartino is a business person (Marketing) and thought leader on the subject of technology and business. Steve is a rare kind who has worked in the largest of companies, including the world’s biggest advertising agency and the world’s biggest Consumer Goods Company (both at Director level) as well as startups he’s founded and sold. He’s also done a lot of crazy projects including putting a lego space shuttle into actual earth orbit.

Steve is a Director at Australia’s first new car company in over thirty years (www.tomcar.com.au). His book The Great Fragmentation: And Why the Future of All Business is Small (Wiley, 2014), discusses the digital revolution and what it means for business. Steve is involved in the venture capital industry and invests in business & new technology. His blog has been in Australia’s top 10 the past 5 years.

organisations including the National Gallery of Victoria, Arts Project Australia, Marie Stopes International and Prahran Mission.
