POSITION SUMMARY Position: Vice President, Sales - Reports to: President & CEO POSITION PURPOSE Act as the strategic business leader of the Sales Department. Oversee the development, implementation and management of sales strategies and performance to ensure Destination Ann Arbor sales goals are achieved. Lead and coach the sales and services team, manage staff performance, identify talent and build knowledge and skills for long term career development and contributions to Destination Ann Arbor. Establish and manage the sales, services and events budget. Create and nurture effective relationships within the organization and communities of Washtenaw County. STAFF

MAJOR JOB DIMENSIONS

1. Provide leadership and support to the sales staff. Conduct quarterly and annual reviews for the sales team and its incentive program. Make compensation decisions related to annual performance reviews, hiring decisions, etc.

2. Direct the annual sales plan development, implementation and communication of annual plans. Analyze, monitor and provide sales forecasts and reports on department and individual performance, including leads, confirmed bookings, lost business, etc.

3. Oversee and collaborate with the organization to plan and implement sales programs, FAM trips, special client events and meetings. Works closely with the VP of Marketing to develop integrated processes and communication within the organization.

4. Maintain well informed knowledge of competition, industry trends and practices. Participate in industry trade shows and activities, organization sponsored functions and meetings; participates in community committees and meetings as requested by the CEO.

5. Manage the financial budget for the sales department, approve sales expenditures. Utilize data and reporting capabilities of the CRM.

6. Participate as a member of the executive management team; support and uphold the policies, practices and values of Destination Ann Arbor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND CHARACTERISTICS REQUIRED

• Ability to think strategically as well as tactically. • Ability to build effective relationships within all departments of the organization. • Understand financial management, budgeting and resource management. • Ability to lead development and execution of sales plans, sales skills and strategies. • Detailed knowledge of hotel operating procedures and business practices. • Strong knowledge of tourism industry including customer segmentation, distribution systems and general pricing

and negotiating practices. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop, write and execute sales plans

and make effective and compelling presentations. • Ability to maintain a positive and professional work attitude and appearance. • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with peers, colleagues and staff. • Ability to establish a rapport with members of the hotel and tourism community and to counsel individual partners

on planning and executing effective sales initiatives. QUALIFICATIONS

• Education and experience equivalent to at least a bachelor’s degree in hospitality, marketing or

related/relevant business. • At least 10 years of experience in destination management, lodging sales and or marketing, including team

management and supervision; hands on experience with CRM systems, budgeting and planning and public speaking.

• Thorough working knowledge of PC systems and applications such as MS Office applications. • Management experience in the hospitality industry. • An established and visible industry profile.
