USING PHOTOSHOP

DESIGNING A MAGAZINE COVER

RESOLVING PROBLEMS

During my designing stages I came across a problem with Photoshop where a red line appeared across my image.

At this late stage of editing where I had created a black eye and removed the background it would not have been easy to just replace the image with a fresh one.

Consequently I used the clone tool to clone every part of Tom‟s clothing and fill in the are that was red. This took a very long time and a lot of patience but I finally finished with no evidence of the red line on the photo so I was able to continue making my magazine cover

CREATING A SPLIT LIPInstead of using makeup on my character to create artificial cuts and bruises I used Photoshop to give my character this split lip.

This was necessary because it helps to tell my narrative linking it to my soap, as his character “Will” gets beaten by “Jay”, therefore it acts as a form of foreshadowing for the audience who will wonder why he is hurt

I found a photo of a man with a cut lip and removed the background.

I changed the opacity of the man‟s mouth and matched it to “Will‟s” mouth so that they blendedwell and it looked realistic.

I used Photoshop to create a black eye.

Using the Lasso tool I selected an area around the eye, then deselected the actual eyeball.

I used the feather tool which softens the edgesof the selection so that the bruise looked more real and less harsh at the edges.

I used a paintbrush at low opacity and used selected colours such as dark purple, dark green, navy and brown.

I blended these taking time to ensure the bruise looked real, and finally adjusted the hue/saturation and brightness/contrast levels to finish off the effect

CREATING A BLACK EYE

DESIGNING BILLBOARDS

This shows how I was constantly looking at existing media products and making sure I stuck to codesand conventions. I was looking here at another channel 4 billboard to make sure the text I used was similar and matched the brand.

STICKING TO CODES AND CONVENTIONS

To make my photos look more professional and better quality, I used Photoshop to make it sharper using the sharpen tool. I also used the Gaussian blur tool to make the background even

more out of focus.

PHOTO EDITING

I felt this was a really strong photo to use for my billboard, however Tom was looking at the camera.

I didn‟t want to reject this image so I used Photoshop to alter the direction is eyes were looking so that he was looking up at the antagonist.

I used the lasso tool to select the eye area

I used the feather tool so that the edge of the selection wouldn't be sharp and obvious, and „freetransform‟ to change the position of the eye

I then had to blurand smoothen the

edges so that the new eye position

blended into the face and looked

natural

I used Photoshop to remove the background from the green screen using the backgrounderaser tool and then the colour replacement tool to create a smooth and professional

finish
