“A set of tools that speeds up theinitial layout of design features inAutoCAD Civil 3D, allowing you totake advantage of Civil 3D’s dynamicabilities earlier in the design process.”
Designers’ Companionfor Civil 3D
Reduce the number of steps and simplifyyour workflow for common design taskswithin AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Guided by a straightforward interface, Designers’ Companion
offers you efficient tools to rapidly lay out streets, lots, highways,
parking lots, detention ponds and subsurface terrain. By
leveraging the dynamic, iterative power of the Civil 3D model
earlier in the design process, project alternatives can be quickly
modified and finalized sooner.
For many design projects, the sophisticated and robust options
AutoCAD Civil 3D provides are not always needed. By
condensing the number of inputs and streamlining the interface,
less time is spent worrying about which commands to run next,
allowing more time to be spent on design.
Designers’ Companion for Civil 3D
Whether you are an AutoCAD Civil 3D power user or novice, Designers' Companion increases
your efficiency during the creation of design objects in Civil 3D. Rather than using the
traditional method of laying out many design features and running multiple commands in a
specified order, Designers' Companion allows you to run one command to create the final
design object. Not only does this reduce the number of clicks and commands, but also takes
out the guesswork of which command to run next. This drastically shortens the learning curve
and makes the implementation of Civil 3D much easier. The Designers' Companion creates
native Civil 3D objects such as Surfaces, Alignments, Parcels, Profiles, and Feature Lines
making dynamic manipulation of the objects simple after their creation.
• Bypass the sophisticated options in Civil
3D with purpose-built functions, spending
more time on design and less time
worrying about which commands to run
next.
• Dramatically reduce the steps and
simplify the command flow needed to
create design features such as roadway
corridors, subdivision streets with parcels,
detention ponds and parking lots by
combining the necessary inputs into
single routines.
• Quickly lay out subdivisions according to
your local agency standards complete
with alignments, centerline profiles, and
dynamic lots that move and update when
your street changes.
• For simple design and drafting scenarios,
bypass the robust features of Civil 3D and
use faster and easier grading utilities and
pipe/structure drafting tools.
• Generate subsurface terrain models
using soil boring measurements and
advanced modeling techniques that
resolve daylighting conflicts between
surfaces.
• Easily modify label styles to change
common parameters such as the layer,
color, text style, text height, and
precision without taking the time to find
the exact style used in the Settings Tab.
Key Benefits
• Efficiently lay out a complete Civil 3D
corridor using a single routine that
combines the seven different inputs for
alignment, profile, assembly and corridor
information.
• Modify the elevations of a 3D polyline or
Feature Line in profile view and have the
software create dynamic Civil 3D
Alignments and Profiles that stay in sync.
Great for designing utilities and other site
features.
• Edit Alignment data specifying common
inputs for PI locations using deflection
angle and curve parameters such
as degree of curvature, tangent length,
radius, length of curve, chord length,
external ordinate, and mid ordinate.
• Easier Profile editing using
straightforward dialog boxes to set PVI
stations and elevations, grades and
distances, vertical curve parameters, high
points, low points and pass through
points.
• Lay out a subdivision concept by simply
drawing an Alignment and having Civil
3D Parcels sized and placed
automatically. Add cul-de-sacs to
complete your design concept.

Key Features
Designers’ Companion for Civil 3D
Use the Styles Editor to quicklychange labels when you see thatthey don't follow your precision, layer, color, text style and textheight standards. Graphicallyselect the label to change theparameters instead of navigatingto the Style dialog boxes via theextensive Settings Tree.
• Parcels generated with the Draw Street command are associated with your Civil 3D Alignment so as changes are made to the alignment geometry, all of the parcels and cul-de-sacs adjust dynamically.
• Specify inputs for minimum area and frontages to automatically size your parcels according to your local agency standards.
• Perform simple grading functions such as project slopes to a surface or catchline without the need of creating grading groups.
• Create mass grading surfaces to jump-start your detailed site design for parking lots and other grading pads. Select the area to grade, specify the desired planar slope and constraining point to create a Civil 3D surface as a starting point to drape Feature lines and refine the design.
• Refine and improve your drawing template, choosing whether your change to the label style should affect all labels orsimply create another style with your modifications.
• Generate subsurface Civil 3D surfaces using soil boring data and advanced modeling techniques to resolve conflicts between surfaces.
• Control Civil 3D tooltip display, turning off tooltips for certain object types or uniquelyper object. For example, isolate the Station/Offset tooltip to only report for a particular alignment, not all alignments.
• Create staking points following horizontal alignments and vertical profile data. Set points at your desired interval and includestations at key curve locations (begin, end, high/low, etc.). Specify horizontal offset parameters to set curb stakes. Idealfor design stakes for channels, utilities, pipelines or when a full-blown corridor is not needed.
• Generate several reports within seconds that are not included in Civil 3D such as Alignment Curve and PI Data, Elevation and Depth reports for Corridor materials and surfaces, Slice (Stage) Volumes, and Station/Offset Reports. View the reports on screen or send the information to a fileor printer.
