*TIP (Professional)- Napkin Talk- When you talk design work with a potential client/small talk. And you

design sketches while working on your laptop. While youre out in public, go to a caf shop. Then start

talking to yourself. People will notice you, because things you are doing are out of the norm. Then start

arguing with yourself. Then people will become curious as to what you are doing. After a while someone

will look over your shoulder, and SEE what you are doing. Next, have a small talk. Pick up on some

clients. Find out what you can offer them or most importantly WHAT DO THEY NEED?!!!!

    Step#4

Now lets create a third point. This time when your click, and hold the mouse key. Then drag to mouse

    Line!

Step#5 What you will want to do next is to click the actual point you just made. What this does is get rid

of the front portion of the line that was created when you clicked and dragged in order to create the

curved line. Why is this important? Go To The Next Step: STEP# THE ERROR

    EFFECT

Step# THE ERROR EFFECT: THE FRONT LINE EFFECT

When you do not get rid of the front portion of the line by clicking the center point (Anchor point), the

next point you create will go in the direction of the front portion of the line. As you get better with the

Pen Tool, as you get better with Illustrator with Illustrator overall, you will notice that you can modifythe FRONT LINE by using the Direct Select Toll (SHRTCK: A) Below is an example of how the Front

Line Effect can affect your artwork when you want to go or draw going in the opposite

Vector Images- Based on Mathematical Equations, use CYMK, and have scalability. Vectors have

thousands of colors. Vectors have more clarity, crisp, sharp resolution.

    12/17

Raster Images- Based on Pixels, RGB, and Resolution Depth. File sizes are larger; Raster Images have

millions of color, giving Raters more coloring capabilities. Raster images are more useful with on-screen

images or images meant to be viewed on computer monitors. Text/Font- anything with 14pts or longer

becomes illegible because of the resolution issues. In Photoshop (which used Raster) its best to stick to

display text/larger text rather than display text when printing, or used for on-screen purposes.

Interpolation/Interpreting- interpret that depth between 2 vary images, and then tries to find the

balance between the 2 while maintaining clarity. Bit mapping occurs when the resolution depth can no

longer be maintained. When using Rasterized and low-resolution images, expanding the size/depth is

    very limited.

Damon Notes- When opening a new document, put in the name of your assignment/project

immediately. You should reference you portal assignments to make sure that you are using the correct

naming conviction. When you have the wrong naming conviction or wrong file format in the drop-box,

simply rename or save the file and drop-it into the drop-box. Do not replace the incorrect file, as long

the correct file is in the along a file that has the right time-date stamp, you will not reduced in points or

have the incorrect counted against you. No big DEAL.

There is 72 points(pt) in an inch. 12pt. type is 1/6th of an inch.

    1 Pica= 12pts/ 6 Pica = 1 inch

Damons Notes- Remember 72/12=6, 72 Points in an inch, 12 Points in a Pica. 72 divided by 12 equals 6,

which is the number of Picas in an inch.

The ALT key, when held, flips the tool you are using to the alternate option for that tool that Adobe

thinks you are more likely to use. Pen Tool=Convert Anchor Point, Zoom In=Zoom Out

The Pencil Tool creates a uniform scaled line

The Brush tool in Illustrator, simulates a real-life brush, so it is skinny/thin in some areas of the line and

wide in others (when zoomed in, you can check this). The Brush Tool also intersects the lines/shapes

when draw on top of each other.)

How to Offset the path(Book P.4-46):

    1. Go to Objects>Path>Offset Path What this does is to create another set of paths underneaththe original path.

    2. Screen Printing: if your printing a character for a t-shirt or lettering for a jersey, it helps inblocking or trapping a color into a shirt. (i.e. block out white on the black shirt, then printing

red/yellow, slightly larger on that white colored print on the black shirt to block/ trap in the

white. Further revealing the red and yellow.

    3. Divide Path: takes the path, encompassing all the paths into 1 groupDamons Tip: work the group in isolation mode. You can double click a group or path in

    order to achieve this.

To weld shapes: draw the larger shapes, then using unite in the pathfinder panel and

cutting/minusing the portions not needed using the Minus Front option in the pathfinder or as Damon

puts it the Cookie Cutter aka The Cutter

    Example of the Cutter below

    Using Less Anchor Points:

Using fewer anchor points in your project artwork is useful in helping to maintain you illustrator files.

Keeping the anchor points down to a minimum will help to reduce to file size, reduce cluttered

illustrations, helps read minimize the amount of work needed to complete the project.

Amount of Points Used Below: 4

Keystroke Tip: Shift + X= When using the pen tool, you can switch the color scheme. The

Foreground color swapping with the Stroke color.
