The south condit ion provides the main access route through the area as wel l as the major publ ic t ranspor tat ion nodes such as bus routes and regional ra i l .

The footpr int of our bui ld ing provided adequate sur face area for the bui lding to col lec t enough ra inwater to feed the water features in the nor thern and southern plazas. Excess col lec ted water would be used to water the ra ised beds which would not be in contac t with the contaminated soi l .

The struc ture creates a rhythm in the atr ium space, but disappears into the wood s lat system as i t reaches the east and west wing. W 24 steel i s used in the atr ium to create a sense of qual i tat ive depth within the space.

HVAC
The HVAC is housed within the wood s lat systems within each wing. On the r ight and lef t corners of the atr ium’s nor th facade, the t runks ex tend f rom underneath the seat ing steps which is where our mechanical system is housed. The information bar l in ing the unders ide of the 2nd f loor of the south facade provides HVAC from the s ide to condit ion to atr ium.

Acoust ic blankets were la id on top of the wood s lat system in the health c l in ic suite to provide increased pr ivac y measures. I n the c l in ic the wood s lat system is a lso made of acoust ic per forated wood mounts. A f loor under layment was used in the atr ium to help counter the level of noise radiat ing into adjacent spaces.

The envelope of the bui lding was inherent ly connec ted to the func t ion of the windowboxes. The levels of pr ivac y, the locat ion and the overal l func t ion a l l were to show with the placement among the concrete panel system that c ladded the rest of the bui lding.
