Objectives
• Students will:– integrate all art and design principles
previously introduced within a single painted or drawn composition.
– use a variety of technical skills and communication knowledge to create a logo expressing the theme : “If I could travel in time I’d visit…” for the Doodle 4 Google project.

What is it?
• “Doodle 4 Google, a contest where we invite students in the United States to use their artistic talents to think big and redesign Google’s homepage logo for millions to see.” (Doodle, 2012)

Directions
Step 1-Before drawing, write a half page essay on the topic of “If I could travel in time, I’d visit…”.
Step 2-Design a series thumbnail sketches of what you are planning for your design.
Step 3-Choose one of your sketches to make into your final project.

Guidelines
• The doodle can be in pencil, colored pencil, crayons, marker, pen or paint.
• All designs must be original.
• The Doodle 4 Google Competition is designed to encourage U.S. school students to use their creativity to create their own interpretation of the Google logo.

Judging/Grading Criteria
• Artistic merit: based on grade group and artistic skill
• Creativity: based on the representation of the “If I could travel in time, I’d visit…” theme and use of the Google logo
• Theme communication: how well the theme is expressed

Awards• The National Winner will be awarded a $30,000
college scholarship to be used at the school of his or her choice, a trip to the New York for an event on May 17, 2012, a Google Chromebook computer, a Wacom digital design tablet, and a t-shirt printed with his or her doodle on it. We'll also award the winner's school or After School Program a $50,000 technology grant towards the establishment or improvement of a computer lab or technology programming. The National Winner will also have his or her doodle featured on the U.S. Google.com homepage.

Awards Cont.
• Each of the other four National Finalists will win a $5,000 college scholarship to be used at the school of his or her choice, a trip to the New York for an event on May 17, 2012, a Wacom digital design tablet, and a t-shirt printed with his or her doodle on it.
• Each of the other 50 State Winners will win a trip to New York for the final event on May 17, 2012 and a t-shirt printed with their doodles on it. All 50 Regional Finalists will also have their doodle displayed in a special exhibit at the New York Public Library.
• Each of the other 250 State Finalists will receive an official winner's certificate and be featured on the Doodle 4 Google contest web site.

• We have a panel of Guest Judges that will help judge Doodle 4 Google. These are well known actors, singers, illustrators, and cartoonists: – Katy Perry, Recording Artist
– Jeff "Swampy" Marsh, creator and executive producer of “Phineas and Ferb,”
– Jordin Sparks, American Idol Winner & Recording Artist
– Mo Willems, creator of the Knufflebunny series
– Holly Black, Author of the Spiderwick Chronicles
– Tony DiTerlizzi, Illustrator of the Spiderwick Chronicles
– Brian Nemeckay, Crayola's Digital Design Creative Director
– Jack Martin, Author, Assistant Director for Public Programs and Lifelong Learning for Children, Teens and Families at The New York Public Library.

visit... – ...America in 1776 to see the founding of our country – ...the year when they cure cancer so millions can live
a healthy, happy life – ...last Thursday so I can relive seeing my brother
graduate college – ...right now, because there is no time like the present
