I want to create architecture that is sustainable, both ecologically and culturally. Architecture should have personality, should be a refl ection of both the tastes and the values of the time. However, in order to move forward we often have to look back; one does not need to do something new just for the sake of change. A good architect can listen to a client, and in doing so produce a unique solution that satisfi es both their wants and needs.
I grew up in Colorado, my family moving to Aurora when I was in elementary school. I have long been captivated by what humans choose to surround themelves with, both natural and built. A beautiful landscape or building can be just as captivating as a family portrait. I have traveled throughout North America and Europe, and spent a year in Paris during college. The sense of history and longevity in Europe seems unmatched in America, but may come in time.
Having come from a Liberal Arts background, I believe I bring a unique view to architectural design. In school, I have had the chance to work on many unique projects, from a library on a historic ranch in South Park, Colorado to apartment housing in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. I have studied both hand drafting techniques as well as computer modeling, and excel at both. My love of history has led me to historic preservation, as well as unique hobbies such as medieval re-creation.

Southeast Perspective - Existing
Southeast Perspective - Proposed
The goal of this project was to create a home for the Rocky Mountain Land Library at the historic Buffalo Peaks Ranch. A request of the client was that there be no new structures built on the land. Thus, required program was fi t into the existing buildings on the ranch.
The property is not listed on the National Register, but the client wanted to keep the possibility of designation open. As such, interventions were as sensitive as possible.

‘Slice’ Model (1/2” = 1’)
This project focused on developing a museum and educational center for an archeological site in Douglas County, CO. Both animal and human remains had been found on the site.
Design work was undertaken with a partner. The studio strove to take a “comprehensive” approach to design, from large-scale site usage to small-scale assembly details. To facilitate this investigation, a large-scale “slice” model was also constructed.

This project involved the design of a 100,000-volume branch library for the Denver Public Library system. Emphasis was placed on the creation of a “gateway” to revitalize the West Colfax district. The contrast of brick and glass serves to accentuate the relationship between old and new.
A redevelopment of the surrounding district was also investigated. Challenges included making the Colfax & Federal intersection more pedestrian-friendly.

Working with interior design students in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, an affordable residential complex was developed. This studio emphasized collaboration and working in an unfamiliar culture.
This studio also focused on the development of hand drawing techniques and craft. Boards were done in a “shaky hand” style in an effort to be more approachable, in contrast to the hard, sterile lines generated by CAD programs.

Theater Complex Massing
Capitol Theater Entrance (historic)
This project consisted of rehabilitating and expanding a fi re-damaged 1920′s-era stage and fi lm theater in downtown Fall River. The theater is in the process of being placed on the National Historic Register, so emphasis was placed on sensitivity to historic character.
As-built plans and elevations did not exist, so investigations had to be performed based on photography and fi eld measurements.
Program included additional theaters and support space.

The goal of this exercise was to quickly practice a design process starting from program requirements, where relationships between structure, site, program, etc. are discovered rather than created.
Program was laid out in squares, then assembled into rough adjacencies. Site forces are then considered, shaping the plan and elevations. Diagrams help clarify the discovered relationships before fi nalizing the design.
