Fellicia was created in 2011 to market products of Design for Social Innovation, originating from a sustainable development project implemented in northeastern Brazil – in the municipality of Santa Luzia do Itanhy, region of Sergipe – called Cultura em Foco. This project is designed, coordinated and executed by IPTI and supported by the Inter-American Development Bank – IDB.
The goal is to promote social and economic inclusion of low-income population through a model based on the principle of Creative Economy, with the strategy to create products of contemporary design with artisan techniques insert own local identity of each beneficiary community.

The most important aspects behind Fellicia are:
professionalism, autonomy and empowerment of various artisans from northeastern of Brazil;
creation of products in a sustainable manner, with high added value, made using traditional techniques, and falling into one strand of contemporary Brazilian design;
consolidation of an association that is producing contemporary design crafts in communities with low Human Development Index – HDI;
creation of an innovative business model that operates through the relationship between sustainability and innovation, structured on three pillars: research & innovation, production and marketing of products. In this model these skills are performed through a partnership between a scientific research institution (IPTI), an association (Association of Artisans of Santa Luzia Itanhy) and a trading company (Fellicia), where each party contributes to the construction and consolidation a truly sustainable model of development.
