A picture tells a thousand words, and

in the mind of a child these words

translate into unique and creative

images.

The Design an Ad program is a great

opportunity for children to express

their creativity in a unique way.

But more than that, it’s an opportunity

for students to learn how the business

of the community newspaper industry

works.

I visited the participating schools a

few weeks back, to speak with children

about all aspects of the business; not

just how the stories are put together,

but how the advertising departments

works, and the daily operation and

everything in between.

The kids are always keen and curious

to �nd out more about the publication

that regularly arrives on the doorsteps

of their homes.

Thanks to their involvement, the

Tri-City News is proud to once again

bring you today’s special section that

highlights the work and creativity of

young minds in our community.

Local businesses and organizations

teamed up with grade 4 & 5 classes

from a number of Tri City schools, to

design and create all the newspaper

ads you see in todays edition.

I would like to thank all the students,

teachers, and participating advertisers

who made this year’s project another

great success.

Also, a special thanks to Coquitlam

Centre for the $25 gift cards that will be

awarded to the advertisements selected

by our clients.
