inVesting in tHe futureThere is always some uncertainty about the future, but planning ahead usually proves to be valuable in the long run. Endowment funds anticipate needs down the road by gathering resources now. Financial assistance has been the largest area of on-going need at Providence and continues to be vital to the school’s stability and growth. Endowed funds address this directly. Gifts designated for endowment are set aside to be invested so the fund can grow over time. Additional gifts can be made and add to the growth. The Providence Board of Trustees Advancement Committee has made establishing a Class Endowment Fund for each graduating class a top priority. To learn how you can begin helping future Providence students, contact Tony Perito in the Advancement Office – 812-945-3350 or [email protected].

PresiDent’s message

“We walk by faith…” The beginning of this familiar hymn could serve as the credo for the history of Our Lady of Providence Jr.-Sr. High School. In this the school’s 60th anniversary year, it is just as true as it was on that very first day in September 1951 that faith is the guiding principle of our educational mission. With this publication, we acknowledge the gifts made by individual donors (alumni, parents, and friends), public and private foundations, and corporate and business supporters that are so vital to our continued progress. Your faith strengthens our faith and allows us to provide the framework for our students’ spiritual, educational, and physical growth. We could not do it without you.

Tuition dollars fund salaries and school expenses. All funding for improvements to the campus and tuition aid must come from donations from our alumni and supporters. With the sound guidance of our Board of Trustees and the generosity of our donors, we concluded our 2010-11 fiscal year with a small surplus. During a time when most public and Catholic schools have seen their enrollment numbers shrinking, we have maintained and even seen small increases in the percentage of students from our Deanery grade schools.

Despite the sluggish economy, Providence alumni and supporters increased their giving. Gifts to our Annual Student Assistance Program (ASAP) and Class Endowment Funds were up, and along with support for our Gala Dinner and Auction, Pioneer Golf Scramble and other miscellaneous contributions, we were able to increase our institutional financial assistance, badly needed due to the increased requests for that assistance. We thank all of you who made a gift to Providence this year because you truly made a difference in the lives of our students. You remain in our daily prayers.

Gratefully In Christ,

Joan M. Hurley
