Project Brief (Design Brief)
Project Summary Santa Monica College was founded 1929 in the city of Santa Monica-California. Today over 30.000 students are attending Santa Monica College on campus and online through an open enrollment system. The College serves the Santa Monica Community, wider Los Angeles Area and International students from 116 countries. SMC is a 2-year college and offers more than 80 fields of study.
SMC is number one in university transfers of the 112 Californian community colleges. Santa Monica College is one of the most affordable institutions of higher education in the world. SMC employs around 700 faculty members and 1800 staffmembers. The 38 - acre main Campus is less than two miles away from the beach

and several nearby satellite campuses.
Santa Monica College offers to the community affordable cultural and recreational offerings, including concerts, plays, art and photo shows, and lectures. The college has attracted world-renowned speakers.The Continuing & Contract Education program offers year round a broad range of classes – in such fields as computers, career enhancement, the arts, self development, and fitness.The widely praised Emeritus College was founded in 1974 to serve people 55 and older by offering classes in downtown Santa Monica and conveniently located community facilities.
SMC also brings the best of public radio to Southern California through the award winning college station KCRW (89.9 FM). SMC is committed to global responsibility and awareness – educationally, environmentally and economically. One of the greenest campuses in the state. The facilities are among some of the finest in the state.
The Santa Monica College online presence does not reflect its academic excellenceand reputation as California's No.1 transfer institution to the UC system.
A redesign is necessary to transpire the feeling of a clear user accessibility, friendly, and contemporary feel throughout the website. The website should be created user friendly throughout a wide range of devices as smartphone, tablet, and desktop.

Goals and objectives of the redesign
One of the goals is to enhance the awareness of College by highlighting the campus, the relevancy of the programs and showcase the work of the students.
The goal is the redesign is that users can easy and simply access the SMC resources without much browsing.
Further objective of new site is to create a sense of community where students, prospective students, international students, out of state students, faculty, staff, alumni and the community can keep informed and involved with the College.
An additional goal is to focus the attention on SMC career placement and student networking, through building an alumni community, who remain active with their respective programs.
Another objective is to increase traffic of the site, which would lead to more students on campus and online.
Target audience
The target audience are prospective students, international students, out ofstate students, local students, current students, alumni, Santa Monica Community, Faculty and Staff. The current students majority (85%) are under 18 to 29 years old. 8.3% are 30 to 39 years old and 3.5% are 40 to 49 years old.

Scope of the project The scope of the www.SMC.edu is a redesign to reflect the contemporary
look and feel of the College to provide a simpler and easier user experience.
The site will be web responsive.
