End of Year Information The final date of Term 4 for students is Wednesday December 18. The staff will finish the term with professional development on Thursday December 19 and the school will be closed as of Friday December 19. We are starting to look at class groupings for 2020. School Spectacular

Our School Spectacular choir team have been preparing for quite a while now for this weekend’s show. Thank you to all of the wonderful parents for their support and organisation in getting children to and from rehearsals and of course the show this weekend!

Mrs Hansard and Mrs Rayner have been very busy but have loved being a part of this wonderful experience.

Thank you to all of Mrs Hansard’s class, 1H for being patient and welcoming to Mrs Morrison whilst Mrs Hansard has been with the choir.

I would like to congratulate all the students involved in this show and I am very much looking forward to seeing them perform tonight at Qudos Bank Arena.

Our Week with Lori – Class 3M

3M have been working hard in their Poetry Unit. This week 3M and Lori the Lorikeet worked on Alliteration Poems. We have had so much fun creating these about our friends, family and pets.

Students worked on a poem for Lori.

Lori helped the class publish poems. Lori enjoyed reading lots of poetry with some friends.

Lori the Lorikeet laughed and laughed when listening to lively poems.

2G’s Video Conference to Baradine Central School

This week 2G connected with the rural community of Baradine, a small rural centre located 45km NW of Coonabarabran in North Western New South Wales which is approximately 6 hours away from the Central Coast. We spoke to 12 students from a 2-3-4 composite class asking them a range of questions.

We discovered there were 5 shops in the entire town (IGA, Pharmacy, Café, chicken shop and one other) and at their school they have a garden, some chooks and goats. The students go swimming for sport and we found out the length of time it takes them to get to the nearest large township. From this experience we were able to get a small taste of what it’s like being a child living on the land.

We were surprised to learn of how one of the boys talked about how he helps his dad on the farm during the holidays and how he doesn't stop for lunch. They heat up his pie in the tractor and continue to work. He also goes hunting for wild goats and pigs and when we asked about the recent small amount of rainfall they received, he said he did a rain dance! We learnt that the students are involved in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program where they use the produce grown to cook on a Friday. We compared our crops at Kariong PS and shared with them what we have achieved this year.

2G reflected on their experience and below are some of their responses:

I can’t believe they don't have many people in their class. (Benji)

To get to the larger shopping centres it can take half an hour compared to ours. It is only a few minutes away for us. (Tahlia)

They live sooooooooooooo far away from everything. (Ashleigh)

Page 7: Deputy Principal’s Report - Kariong...Cruden S Ellie B Ty C Zahli E Jeremiah H Kayla H Kian S Franky N Dean S Cameron S Mohammed K Alexander L William D PBL Diamond Certificates

I can’t believe they have a swimming pool for sport and it is only 3 minutes away. (Sienna)

When I think of drought I think of dry mud. I don't think I could live on the farm. It’s too much work and too long a drive. (Piper)

Wow! You have 12 people in your class? I wonder what it is like? (Evie)

I really didn't know that they rode motorbikes in the outback and their class is way, way smaller than I expected. (Joel)

I learnt what it is like being with no rain and how hard they are trying. (Charlotte).

I am shocked they live so far away from all shops. (Lara)

2G and Ms Glare

FROM the OFFICE Important information for parents of children who carry their own medication at school and/or who self-medicate. Please remind your child to:

carry their medication with them to and at school each day and/or as agreed with the school know how and when this medication should be used keep their medication with them in an easily accessible and identifiable spot

(some parents have bought pouches so their children can carry around their adrenaline autoinjector for anaphylaxis wherever they go)

tell a teacher immediately if they start to feel unwell or sick at school. Please let them know this won’t get them into trouble if they do this

tell you immediately if their medication is used, lost or misplaced or is nearing its expiration date

carry their medication with them on all school excursions your child is involved in and as agreed with the school

keep a copy of their ASCIA Action Plan for Anaphylaxis with their adrenaline autoinjector for anaphylaxis

keep a copy of their Asthma Action Plan with their asthma reliever medication for asthma.

NOTE FOR ANAPHYLAXIS and ASTHMA: The school still needs you to provide at least one additional adrenaline autoinjector and/or asthma reliever medication for your child in case we need it in an emergency. This could happen, for example, if your child doesn’t have theirs with them at school when it is needed. We will store it in a central location in the school and use it to help your child if needed.

***If you have not yet provided the school with a spare Ventolin puffer and Asthma Action Plan, please do this as soon as possible***.

Reminder about money collecting procedures: All cash money sent to the school is to be brought to the Administration Office and placed into the letterbox slot that is on the front wall near the counter. This will allow payments to be placed securely, even when the office is not open. Please do not leave money on the counter. We ask that the envelope be marked with your child’s name, class, and what the payment is for, to allow the payment to be processed. The office staff will administer all money and a receipt will be issued to the family, which will go to the student’s class teacher to send home. This procedure ensures better handling of all monies and reduces disruption to teachers and students.

We provide a variety of ways to make payments within the school, to make it easier for families and alleviate some students bringing large amounts of money to school. EFTPOS payments may be processed at the Administration Office or over the phone for those families who choose to use this facility.

The DoE preferred method for all money coming into the school is the Payment On-Line facility (POP), through the school’s website. This procedure allows payments to be made 24 hours a day and provides an immediate receipt to your email. Families will need to go to the school’s website: [email protected]. On the home page toolbar Make a Payment, follow the prompts to make your payment. Further instructions can be found via a link on our website: Parent/Carer Instructions for Parent Online Payments. Please do not make payments for uniforms on this site. The Uniform

Shop is privately run and their website for ordering is: gtschool.com.au.

If a POP payment is made before 6pm, your payment will be processed on the next day’s school statement. If it is made after 6pm, the school will be notified two days later. Please ensure that on your child’s permission note, you fill in the section for POP which will require the receipt number. At the bottom of every note that requires payment, there is a section for cash, cheque, and Payment On Line, for your convenience. If you have any concerns please don’t hesitate to contact the Administration Office on 4340 1885.
