etc…

!!!Camping season is coming up soon, and a number of parents have inquired about camping gear. I have pulled the below information together so that hopefully everyone will be able to get any gear that they would like at the best price available. !All of these sites sell different gear. If you find something you like, make sure you check across these sites and any others that you find. I have found that some of the sites have very good deals on their own equipment, but their "name brand" gear, for example North Face, can be found elsewhere cheaper. !!www.alpsmountaineering.com I have worked with some of this group’s gear and it is good quality. !www.alpsoutdoorz.com This si te and the si te below work closely with Alpsmountaineering, noted above. !www.browningcamping.com This site appears to have some decent and easy to set up tents at reasonable prices. !www.sierratradingpost.com Sierra Trading Post is an online discounter. They have name brand gear at a discount, however you never know what they may have in stock. !www.rei.com REI (Recreational Equipment Incorporated) If you think you may continue to purchase through REI, it is worth becoming a member as you get dividend dollars for each purchase. REI also has reps that know the equipment that you can talk with by phone, and if you go toward Atlanta or Houston, you can check out their stores and then purchase the gear online when it goes on sale. Sales occur around most holidays so if you do not need gear immediately, this can save some money. They do not have sales commissions for their staff. !www.EMS.com Eastern Mountain Sports. This is a large chain store in the North East. Decent sales and reps on the phone that know their equipment. !www.cabelas.com Decent quality and price on Cabela's store brand gear. The store is local so you can try out the gear prior to purchasing !www.Basspro.com There is a local store on the North Shore. Similar to Cabela's, being local, you can try the gear prior to purchasing.

!!www.chinooktec.com On-line store with good quality and inexpensive camping gear. Their gear may also be found on Amazon. !www.masseysoutfitters.com Local stores in Metairie, Uptown, and Covington. You can try on the gear prior to purchasing, and they claim they will match any price, local or online. If your child is a scout, they can get a discount on camping related gear. !www.Backcountry.com www.Backcountry.com is a large volume online store with numerous sales. Easy to speak with Gear Experts online. !www.steepandcheap.com Steep and Cheap is a sub-company of the above www.backcountry.com. They sell over stocked items at up to 70% off. Their slogan is One Killer Gear Deal, one item at a time until it's gone. Like some of the other sites listed above, you never know what will show up, and if you see something you are interesting in, you need to purchase before their stock runs out. !Coleman Factory Outlets There are Coleman Factory Outlets in Foley Alabama (en-route to Gulf Shores), along with some in Georgia and Tennessee. !Wal-Mart, Academy Sports, Sports Authority and Dick's Sporting Goods All of these stores provide decent options for car camping. I recently noticed that Wal-Mart had 0 - 30 degree adult sleeping bags for $33. This would not be gear to take on a back packing trip, but when you can walk to your tent and drop off gear, it is a good option. !Final disclaimer... I do not own stock in any of the above companies. I am just looking to provide the most options for our students to be comfortable on the upcoming camp out. !If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know. !See you camping. !Jeffrey Coit
