DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES ACADEMIC SESSION 2018-19 On 18 th July, 2018, a Seminar was organised by the Times Academy on Career Counselling. The purpose was not only to acquaint the students about the challenges they will come across in their future careers but also how to girdle themselves in order to overcome them. The Academy conducted RIASEC test for the students. The students were motivated to be more innovative with their ideas as well as manage things within the limitations of time and resources. The resource person was Mr. Kapil Dixit, a motivational speaker of international repute. On 8 th August, 2018, the Department organized a Seminar on Roadmap to Company Secretary. The speaker in this seminar was Miss Sonu Nahata , from ICSI, Delhi. In this seminar, the students came to know the importance and need of CS in the job market, the eligibility criteria, the procedure of exams and the study material for the same. The seminar proved to be a highly informative and inspiring session for the CS aspirants. On 11 th August, 2018 a Departmental Picnic was organized to provide an opportunity to teachers as well as students to bond with each other outside the classroom norms and offer a break from their hectic schedule. The students were taken to Paradizzo Resort where they enjoyed the pool party, indoor games and Lunch.

DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES

ACADEMIC SESSION 2018-19

On 18th July, 2018, a Seminar was organised by the Times Academy on Career

Counselling. The purpose was not only to acquaint the students about the challenges they

will come across in their future careers but also how to girdle themselves in order to

overcome them. The Academy conducted RIASEC test for the students. The students

were motivated to be more innovative with their ideas as well as manage things within

the limitations of time and resources. The resource person was Mr. Kapil Dixit, a

On 8th August, 2018, the Department organized a Seminar on Roadmap to

Company Secretary. The speaker in this seminar was Miss Sonu Nahata , from ICSI,

Delhi. In this seminar, the students came to know the importance and need of CS in the

On 11th August, 2018 a Departmental Picnic was organized to provide an

opportunity to teachers as well as students to bond with each other outside the

taken to Paradizzo Resort where they enjoyed the pool party, indoor games and

On 16th August, 2018, a Workshop on 'Writing a Research Paper’ was organized

by the Department. Dr. Monika Kannan (Head, P.G. Department of Geography,

Sophia Girls College), was invited as the resource person who gave in-depth

knowledge on how to write a research paper. She briefed the students about the basic

components of a research paper, how to write an abstract as well as the different

methods of data collection. It was an interactive session and many students actively

participated in it.

On 16th Oct, 2018, a Visit to an Orphanage in Kaiser Ganj was organised by the

Commercium in which almost every student contributed by way of clothing, food and

other basic amenities for the children. The students interacted with the children,

imbibing the values of empathy and compassion from the experience.

On 20th Oct, 2018, a Visit to an Old Age Home "APANA GHAR” situated on the

outskirts of Ajmer, was organised by Commercium (Commerce Forum). The students

not only donated in kind to cater to the basic needs of the inmates, they also spent

quality time with the lonely and abandoned elderly. Their youthful demeanour

brought smile to their sad faces and made them forget their troubled lives. The visit

made the students aware of the rapidly crumbling family structure in the Indian

society and taught them the importance of Family Time in their own lives.

On 18th December, 2018 a Seminar on Personality Development and Stress

Management was organised. The objective of the seminar was to help the students to

become more self aware and explore the different sides of their personality. The

interactive session was conducted by Col. Sanjay Bhatia (Retd).

On. 9th Jan, 2019, a Seminar on Employability Skills was conducted by Vaibhav

Mediratta, a Corporate Trainer, Senior Branch Manager and a Master Trainer at

PIBM Pune. He is a MBA in Finance from ICFAI Business School, Hyderabad. He

guided the students regarding the various employability skills required in the

Corporate World. He also suggested ways to crack an interview and get jobs in the

Financial and Investment Sector. It was an interactive session and many students

actively participated in it.

On 17th Jan, 2019, MOU was signed between Jaipuriya Institute of Management,

Jaipur and Sophia Girls’ College, Ajmer and a collaborative Seminar on ‘Roadmap to

MBA’ was organised. The Resource Person was Dr. Prabhat Pankaj, Director,

Jaipuriya Institute of Management Jaipur.

On 24th Jan, 2019, a Talk on Investment in Mutual Fund was organised in

collaboration with Sharekhan Company. Mr. Bhanwar Singh Rathore, an Investment

Advisor and an expert on Mutual Funds, addressed the gathering. He briefed the students

about the availability and suitability of the various plans and schemes for them to invest.

Mr. Omendra Singh Shekhawat carried forward the talk and explained the procedure to

enrol for a D-mat Account in Sharekhan Company. The talk was a knowledge gainer for

the students.

From 28th January-2nd February 2019, an Industrial & Educational Tour to

Ahmedabad for B.com Part III was organised. It proved to be an extremely enriching

exposure for the students. The trip included industrial visit to Nandam Denims, Anand’s

Milk Union, Amul Chocolates and Gujarat Science City. The objective was to study the

production process as well as learn the industrial dynamics. The students also attended a

session on effective communication skills by Mrs. Dhriti Bhattacharji. The students

attended few sessions given by SBS teachers and were later taken to the campus of

“Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad” to explore the academic infrastructure of

the Institute. The students also visited ‘Dandi Kutir’ and “Kankaria Lake.” The trip was

an exceptionally informative as well as a highly empirical experience for the students.

On 2nd Feb’ 2019 students of B.Com. Part I conducted a Survey in Bandhiya and

Kankariya Villages. The objective was to teach the first year students the methodology

of conducting door to door survey. The survey was on ‘Awareness of various

Government Schemes in Rural Areas’ like Antadodhya Anna Yojana, Atal Pension

Scheme, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan etc. The students interacted with the villagers and made

them aware about the benefits of these schemes. This outdoor activity helped the students

to empathize with the everyday problems faced by the villagers.

On 4th Feb, 2019, a Seminar on Digital Marketing was organised. The resource

persons for the seminar were Dr. Vivek Ranga, the Dean and Campus Head of IBS

Ahmedabad; Mr. Visambar Dayal, the Regional Manager of IBS and Mr. Kundan Jaiswal

the Branch Manager of IBS.

On 4th Feb, 2019, a talk on ‘Roadmap to MBA’ was organised by the alumni of the

College who are pursuing MBA from AIMS Institute of Management Studies, Pune.

They especially addressed the Final year students of B.COM who got to know about the

different MBA colleges in Pune. They also learnt the technique of evaluating and

comparing the profiles of different colleges and decide the one most suitable to their

future prospects.

On 14th Feb, 2019 an MBA Training Programme was organized at Jaipuria Institute of

Management, Jaipur, for the B.Com and B.B.A students. Director Mr Prabhat Pankaj

gave a detailed overview of the various tools and techniques used in everyday

management. After the stimulating session the students were taken to Kagazi Industry,

an industry of handmade papers operating for the last 400 years. The students witnessed

the transformation of fibre into paper as well as the technique of manufacturing eco-

friendly paper from old-torn clothes. Students were highly benefitted by this training

program.

From 15th- 16th Feb 2019, students attended an International Conference on Youth

2025 ‘Redefining Business and Society in the Age of Information Technology’ hosted

by Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur. The students participated in poster making

and presented papers on the sub-themes of the Conference. The aim of the international

conference was to bring together academics, industry experts and policy makers on a

single platform to deliberate upon the role of youth in innovating new ways of doing and

managing business. More than 30 eminent delegates from different location attended the

two day international conference.

From17th Feb to 19th Feb’2019, 12 students from the Department of Commerce

and Economics visited Carmel College for Women, Nuvem and Fr. Agnel College of

Arts and Commerce, Pilar in Goa, as part of a faculty and staff exchange program.

The staff and students got the opportunity to interact, academically as well as

culturally, with the faculty and students of both the colleges. The visiting team also

attended a National Seminar on E-Commerce at Fr Agnel and even presented papers

on the same. The exchange program exposed the staff and students to appreciate and

compare the teaching-learning and research patterns practiced in Colleges in other

parts of India.
