All adults should get vaccines to protect their health. Evenhealthyadults can become seriously ill, and can pass certain illnesseson toothers. Immunization is especially important for older adultsand for adults with chronic conditions such as asthma, ChronicObstructive Pulmonary Disease ﴾COPD﴿, diabetes or heartdisease. Immunization is also important for anyone who is inclose contact with the very young, the very old, people withweakened immune systems, and those who cannot bevaccinated. All adults should get the influenza ﴾flu﴿ vaccine each year to protect against seasonal flu.Every adult should also get the Td or Tdap vaccine once if they did not receive it as anadolescent to protect against pertussis ﴾whooping cough﴿, and then a Td ﴾tetanus, diphtheria﴿ booster shot every 10 years. In addition, women are also recommended toget the Tdap vaccine each time they are pregnant, preferably at 27 through 36 weeks. Adults may need other vaccines ‐ such as shingles, pneumococcal, hepatitis, HPV ‐depending on one's age, occupation, travel, health status, vaccination history, and otherrisk factors. Each time children return toschool, head lice is a
concern for many parents. This year, if your child getslice, it may be more difficult
to get rid of.The problem is that licehave mutated, making it
more difficult for thechemicals in over‐the‐
counter treatments to lockon to the lice and eliminate
it. Unfortunately, Iowa isone of the Midwest states
where super lice have beenfound. What can you do ifyour child gets lice? The
most importantintervention is combing
their hair daily with a metallice comb. By doing this, you will physically rid thehair of lice and nits. For
more information, call Jeniat 421‐9359.
