HOD’S MESSAGE - Prof.. Elsa Jose Palatty

When I took the office on last - , my assigned duty was to raise the depart-

ment status according to the mission and vision of our department. First step

was to encourage the students to participate in startup projects. Now there

are active participation of students in IEDC chapter even from the first se-

mester ECE students. Also department took initiative to welcome KELTRON

REC Thrissur and BSNL engineers to give a broad view about the technical

advancement in the electronics and communication engineering. Also I

pleased to inform that we have published a new website for ECE department

where students and parents get the up to date information about the events,

faculties , project ,curriculum, study materials etc.

performance, continual im-provement of processes, customer satisfaction and personality devel-opment of students. He motivated students to set a goal which they would achieve in next 15-40 years. Ms. Michelle Oscar Arland has

given an overview about her PhD

thesis which is about the sea weeds

and the saline nature which they

possess. She encouraged students

to apply for higher studies in inter-

national universities.

International Seminar

An international seminar has arranged by ECE department for final year students on 04-05-2017. Mr. Hank Teuton from USA, Ms. Michelle Oscar Arland from Israel have participated in the seminar. Mr. Hank Teuton has given an excellent speech about the goals which each student must carry along their professional jour-ney. He has reminded students about academic

The representatives were chosen

during this program. From final

years students four representa-

tives were chosen. Amrutha PS ,

Akhil Johnson from S7 A batch,

Venita Babu and Vinu V R from

S 7 B batch were chosen as rep-

resentatives. They have given

instructions about their duties

and responsibilities. Depart also

introduced three new faculties

(Mr. Saratah VS, Ms. Numa Joy

and Mr. Majo Mathew P) during

Two projects (Final year B.Tech Electronics & Communication Engineering, MET’s School Of Engineering, Mala, Thrissur) got funded from Kerala State Government

Name and Designation of Principal Investigator (PI): Ms. Reema Luiz, Assistant Professor

Abstract:

The project is based on upgrading the present energy meters which is used to analyze the power consumed in a house,

factories and other organizations. Measuring your energy con-sumed is the first step toward finding ways to decrease

it. While almost every residence has an electric meter, it only shows total household energy (kWh) consumed. Here a

graphical approach of energy meter is obtained. The graphical output can be viewed in our mobile phone and also in

the display connected to processing unit. The graphical approach mainly consist of three graphs one shows the pre-

sent readings, second one shows the daily power usage and the last one shows the monthly output. This energy meter

is also linked with home automation system which can be controlled using mobile. In order to satisfy all this needs,

raspberry pie can be used. The Raspberry Pie and the mobile application can be linked by using a latest technology

IOT (Internet of things), where the output from the sensor is processed using the Raspberry Pie. After tracking the

power dissipation, the over usage can be controlled using the android. Using this project, the electrical energy can be

used efficiently.

Title of the research proposal : Design and implementation of “GLASS BOX”-a novel

method to find out the cause of accident using GPS technology.

Students: AMRUTHA.P.S, ANAMIKA, HIBA BASHEER, HARIKRISHNAN.P

Name and Designation of Principal Investigator (PI): Ms. Athira P Nair, Assistant Professor

Abstract:

The aim of this project is to implement a system that performs rescue operations on an accident in remote are-

as .Obviously such situations cannot be treated properly. The project Glass box with video evidence for accidents will

give the complete solution. Through Raspberry Pie the required authority could get a clear-cut video evidence of the

accident. In our project we are integrating GPS and mailing technologies in one application. Here the antenna and the

sensors are fitted on a suitable position in the vehicle so that the signals from the satellite are received without any

hindrance. The data from the GPS module is supplied to a raspberry pie which decodes the data and retrieves the

position information.

This project also helps to eliminate the drawbacks of black-box. The existing technology for finding the cause

of accidents is Black Boxes. But the main drawbacks of the black box is that it can't report the accident immediately

for providing rescue operations. Also if we fail to recover the black box after the accident, then we don't get the in-

formation regarding the cause of accidents. This glass box with video evidence for accidents is quite responding,

accurate and user friendly. Further, it will compensate the disadvantages of the conventional accident detection sys-

tems like a black box. Here we are sending video clips of 16s duration when an accident occurs. So we get clear cut

evidence about the cause of the accident. Since Glass box is transparent, we will get the video clip even if we fail to

recover the system. So this will also helpful for rescue operations.

Placed students (2013-2017) batch from the department.

Goals and Objectives

Beholding the KTU vision, department upholds the acquisition of knowledge in a rapidly developing and changing society and to continually offer opportunities for upgrading knowledge.

To mould the students by imparting integrated global awareness, communication skills and team building across the curriculum.

Inspire the young passionate entrepreneurs to come up with ingenious startup projects which may benefit the society as well as the nation.

Leadership and service to meet the nation’s needs.

Highly motivated and successful alumni who contribute to the profession in the global

society.
