She needed a platform for rapid deployment, which required no extensive training or IT, in order to: Function as a cross-department inspection tool Provide insight into work sites, manufacturing equipment and personnel Collect data in real-time from the point of origin and transfer to a cloud storage database The goal was to develop a Platform that could increase the efficiency of the manufacturing process as well as have a system in place that would allow them to quickly report upon the data being collected. This would give them new insights like they never had before, and allow them to start tracking man- ufacturing quality trends across their facilities. The Results Instant Insight Aſter implementation, Demmer had instant insight into plant operations at multiple facilities. Based on these results, they expanded usage from 3 to 140 apps in the first year, most frequently using the Efficiency & Process Log, Fuel Tank Leak Test, and Monthly Safety Equipment Checklist. Streamlining Processes Demmer has been able to totally eliminate the need for paper storage and hours spent on manual data entry. Cost savings alone on storage needs are estimated at $3,000. Also, travel time and costs are eliminated as inspections now originate in one plant and electronically transfer to the next. This saves hundreds of thousands annually in lost productivity. The best part is, as new safety or manufacturing regulations are introduced, Canvas mobile forms are easily customized to meet standardization requirements. Overall, Demmer saved just over $1 million dollars in time and productivity in their first 12 months using Canvas. “All kinds of ideas are coming in, from every department,” Ouellette said. “Sometimes we have to rein them in,” Malesky joked.
