DEMCO/BETTY BARKEMA SCHOOL LIBRARY IMPROVEMENT GRANT

The DEMCO/Betty Barkema School Library Improvement Grant is an award of $5,000 in DEMCO products to be used to enhance the atmosphere and efficiency of a California school library. The award is to be used to finance a library improvement project, not to include library books or other resources. A short summary of the finished project telling of the impact on the school community (pictures included) must be sent to CSLA within one year of receiving the award. Your application must include: 1. A two-page description (double-spaced) of the current school library and the proposed

project. a. Fully describe the proposed library improvement project and describe in detail how

this will serve to significantly address the needs of students and staff. b. Detail how the DEMCO/Betty Barkema grant will be used in the project. c. Provide a budget for the project, including a list of products to be supplied by

DEMCO through the grant. d. List other contributions to the project and any in-kind support that has been pledged.

2. Provide the following documents: a. A support statement from the site library advisory committee, signed by all members. b. A support statement from the site principal, a teacher, and two students. c. A copy of the site library plan. d. Five photographs of the current library showing each angle of the facility.

The recipient will also be expected to attend the CSLA State Conference to receive the award and to participate in any presentations sharing information about the project at State and/ or regional conferences. CERTIFICATION BY APPLICANT By submitting this grant application, I agree to the following: Should my library receive this grant, I, or a school representative will attend the CSLA State Conference and participate in the awards ceremony. Costs associated with this attendance are not included in the proposed project. I acknowledge that shipping charges are a part of the $5,000 credit and I have included a reasonable estimated amount for shipping in this application. (Shipping estimates may be obtained through the contact person designated by DEMCO.) I agree that, if my school library is unable to complete the terms of this award, I will notify the DEMCO/Betty Barkema School Library Improvement Grant committee and may be required to pay for any products already received under the grant.
