Garforth Lions January 2015A Big Thank You from Garforth & District Lions Club!The Garforth & District Lions Club activities over Christmas proved a roaring success.

The tour of Garforth and its surrounding villages with Santa, together with visits to local pubs and clubs, was a hit with the hundreds of children who had the opportunity to meet Santa in their own street, whilst the Lions collected a magnificent £8314.85 to fund their community activities throughout the year. All the funds raised are used for charitable purposes – all administration costs are paid by the Lions personally, via an annual membership fee.

President of the Garforth & District Lions, Mark Dobson said “The continued generosity of local people continues to amaze the Lions. The funds raised over the Christmas period enable the Lions to continue to serve the local community throughout the year, helping those in need of assistance.”

In addition to the collection with Santa the Lions were busy undertaking other activities around the area. A collection of food items at the Co-op supermarket, Kippax and Tesco, Garforth, enabled the Lions to make over 90 food parcels which were distributed to many needy members of the local community.

In addition, the Lions Garforth Lights committee once again organised the Garforth lights switch on event, in conjunction with Leeds City Council.

Forthcoming events this year include our summer gala in June and the Lions Garforth beer festival in August. Further details will be published in due course on our website, on Facebook page and via Twitter.
