Student Accommodation (Chamberlain)
Check-in/Check-out• To check-in please make your way to the Chamberlain building
reception from 3pm onwards: Chamberlain, 37 Church Road,
Birmingham, B15 3AS
• Check-out is at 10am. You can check out later at an additional cost, to
organise this simply contact reception
• If you are travelling from overseas, you’ll need to bring along your
passport and an address for your next destination
Arriving by carIf you are arriving by car, please be aware that there is limited car
parking available at Chamberlain. Please be aware that some of our
car parks are pay and display so bring some change along with you
just in case.

Part of our student accommodation is made up of different buildings known as the Vale Village and is located two miles south of the city centre and a 20 minute walk from our Edgbaston campus.
On arrival please collect your key card from our main reception, which can be found in the Chamberlain building between 8am - 10pm, the contact number is 0121 415 8520. If you arrive out of these hours please go to our 24 hour reception located in the Shackleton building, B15 3SX.

Arriving by taxiPlease be aware that the road through the Vale Village is operated as a
one-way system.
Arriving by trainIf you arrive by train into New Street you can get on the Cross-City line
to the University train station which is a 30 minute walk from the Vale
Village. There is no taxi rank located outside so please call 0121 427
8888 on arrival if you need to order one.
BreakfastA full English breakfast will be served in the main dining area which
is located within Shackleton between 7 - 9am. Please be aware that
breakfast times can become very busy so it’s best to get an early
breakfast to avoid the rush.
Other Information • Please note that the accommodation is located on an incline in land
scaped lakeside parkland

from the door frame to unlock your bedroom door
• Please note that your bedroom door will now remain unlocked until
you lock the door
To lock the bedroom door: • Hold the end of your card flat against the round door reader
• If the lock LED flashes red once please either return to reception or
give them a call on 0121 415 8520
• If you have permission to lock your door the lock LED flashes green
once

Gaining access to your flat:• Hold the end of your card flat to the door reader
• If you do not have permission to enter access is
denied and the lock LED flashes red once. If this
happens please either return to reception or give them a call on 0121
415 8520
• If you have permission to enter the lock LED flashes green once
• Push the door handle down and enter the flat
To exit the flat simply use the door handle: this is free exit and you do
not need your access card to open the door to leave. However, please
make sure that you have your card with you as you will not be able to
gain access if you leave your card inside.
To get the best response always hold the end of the card flat against the reader

It can be a bit tricky gaining access to your flat and bedroom so we’ve created some simple instructions to make getting in easy. Please be aware that your bedroom door remains unlocked until you follow the locking instructions below. Should you experience any problems then please give reception a call on 0121 415 8520.

Food and Drink (out of term)
No matter where you are on campus you’re never far away from a snack, bite to eat or a refreshing beverage.
Starting at the Vale village you’ll find The Melt where you can grab a sandwich and a coffee before your meeting or conference. Please check opening hours with reception before heading over, especially during summer vacation time.
At the Conference Park (B15 2RA) across the road you’ll find the Park Restaurant in Lucas House where you can enjoy a 3 course meal or grab a quick snack or drink from the bar. As you head onto campus you’ll find over 25 outlets dotted around in our various buildings including Starbucks in Muirhead Tower and Costa located outside Staff House and University Centre. If you’re just after a quick sandwich then head over to the Spar in University Centre or Costcutter at the Vale village.
Finally you can unwind and relax in one our bars after a long day of meetings, simply check at reception to find your nearest one.

There’s a wealth of attractions to explore at the University of Birmingham, starting with Winterbourne House and Garden a short 10-15 minute walk away from your accommodation. Here you can explore 7 acres of relaxing botanical gardens or visit the historical house to learn more about the family who built it. Next stop is the Barber Institute of Fine Arts, a 15-20 minute walk from your accommodation. Here you can immerse yourself in a bit of culture with everything from Monet to Manet, Rubens and Botticelli to the likes of Van Gogh. A visit to the Barber is sure to never disappoint and entry fee is a donation so no need to book ahead. Fancy taking in a show in the evening? Then check out the Bramall’s website: bramall.co.uk to find the latest classical, comedy and spoken word events, all at amazing prices and just a 20-25 minute walk from your accommodation.

The final place on our campus, but certainly not the least, is the Lapworth Museum of Geology where you can explore everything from dinosaurs to volcanoes and rocks to fossils. Well worth a visit and free of charge, the Lapworth Museum is located a short 20-25 minute walk from your accommodation.

Around Birmingham
Things to see and do around BirminghamA shopping mecca, you’ll find hundreds of outlets in Birmingham to satisfy even the largest retail hunger. Highlights include the Bullring (bullring.co.uk) and Grand Central (grandcentralbirmingham.com) with tons of places to shop, eat and drink, both of which are based in Birmingham city centre just a 10 minute train ride from University station.
If you’re after something a bit shinier then the Jewellery Quarter, located just a 15 minute drive away, will provide the perfect array of shops for you. For a cultural hit, pop over to Birmingham city centre to see the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery (birminghammuseums.org.uk/bmag) or take a step back into the past at the National Trust’s Back to Backs (nationaltrust.org.uk/birmingham-back-to-backs).
