Special to the LeaderNH;W YORK-One or the fun

niest and best of tihe kid movies ; saw in many a year has sunk without a trace.

It;w as a modest little ef.'ort titled, "Wha^s Mindinj Hie Mint*’ or some sue r thing. Howard Morris, the little comic who was So wonderful on the old Sid Caesar- '‘Show ot Shews"" direct -

- ei} tSe movie. ,— ~ .“At lasC -J- toltj.tmyseW. "the

old fashioned way (it puttiivj cut a joyful comedy for the holidays has been resumed ’

IUlt or. Sundav I Waked through the theater pages and couldn't even find the movie listed. And ail I wanted to do was check the tide.

The movie was slapstick, pure and hilarious. It concerned the e:for*s ci a lad portrayed by Jimmy Hatton, an employee in the U. S. Mint, lo rep!a;e $i0,- 000 he had accidentally (juried down thc drain. 1 .

Yes. Flush?*! dewn thc drain. His adrrtefrfg gifl frie^id.,.l>;ro- tny Provine, had given him a bag of^udge which somehow got mixiMi’Bp with $50,000 ar.d when ::e ih r t# he fhcvi^h' wasfudge down the sink into t/io garbage disposal- vmH he w a s tossing away $50,000. FORTUNATELY, WALTER B.

Fortunately for Hat on he has an old, tried and true frtend. Waltef* Brennan, wt :'iasju»tre tired from The ' mint. Brennan has aH unKflfllled desire to run the minfpresses once, just once.

-What is more, natural than for Hatton to pre jd i i that Walter B. acccmpany him to the mint lo run the presses just long enough to produce JaUQ0'.’

Ah, but funds are needed.Hcrw about the friendly pawn

shop dealer, one Milton Berle?More help is npedecl. The en

try to the mint can only bo made via the jsewer lines. Art Carrier is necdfd there But We h^ve to settle for Joey Bishop.

.Bishop is., fine but he to j auItalian relative, newly ai-rived, ivbo needs a jcb. He's add; J.

Doro hy Provine, a mint em

ployee who cuts money, is recruited. v

Then, to make . the way through the sewer lines, a boat U needed. So a shipbuilder is added. '

But tliis time the $50,000 job has sprung into a giant heist worth about $7 njjljion.

Oh. yes. Waiter B, has a pregnant dc; he re-fused 151 ea ve S»-" hind. So the. deg, who does mii dream a cut of the prof!ts, participates in thc foolishment. WONlDERFUL AND CRAY " The Whole thhig sounds sBTyT Vtsrtj l iy it is even sillier. T rt Is has such stuff as to gladden the heart or any youngster. And .vhne the youngster is enjoying himscll the parents are aisu in ftr a treat. Just looking at Bot- ctny Prcvine ought to be en >ugh lot the dads.

I>ut uhat happened?The movie opened oavBt'aad-

u ay a couple of wde’ss a ?o. Sur- iaeinj,. for just a short t:me, it n_. vied good nn tides. Cvery- bedy agreed it was slapstick, L'ut cf an inspired kind.

The educator may mourn Ihe fact that kta rewards on this earth are meager, indeed,, compared to those of other professions. But when a man like Frank Hurley dies one is struck anew by the fact that money alone could never have been measured with the compensations of respect* love and gratitude that were heard from tke many hundreds of students and teachers with whom he came into contact.

Mr. Hurley died on November 26. At that tune he was eager to continue his work on the Teaneek campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University.

F. D. U. meant a great deal to this educator who was one of those fortunate enough t:o be in on the establishment when each student was considered a seed that someday would grow into a fully matured tree.

When North Arlington High School graduated its first class in 1937 Frank Hurley was the principal. /

la 1940 Hurley interviewed a nervous, somewhat frightened teacher named Mary E. Davidson. He hired her. North Arlington was lucky for his perception for she became the distinguished principal of the high school.

“I remember him s o well,” said Mrs. Davidson recently. “H e felt that education was a calling important enough for one to dedicate himself entirely to its needs. He always felt strongly that it was the duty of the teachers to work with and do whatever they could for all students. He pointed out that ordinary snow tires, without studs, offer no advantage over regular tires in stopping on ice.

Let Us Get An Airport That FliesRobert A. Roe, commissioner of New

Jersey’s Conservation and Economic Development department, in the latest issue of “New Jersey Municipalities” emphasizes the importance of sir freight to the future of trade.

“An interesting sidelight,” wrote Roe, “is ih a t the New York-New Jersey area shipped by air (exports and imports) spine 163J29 long tons of cargo. Tins is a far cry from total airborne shipments of 13,-.. IM Ioog tons in 1956— a ten-year increase of over 1,000%. Between 1965 and 1966 the increase was 14.6%. Surely, this is a dramatic evidence of the increasingly vital role o t the airplane in world commerce.”

Right, Mr. Roe.And what are you doing about it?A f recent newspaper accounts of the

hearings of the New York State Investigation Commission showed, the air freight business is being reserved for Kennedy International In right fears over three million tons of air freight may be shipped in and out of Kennedy.

Plants that produce such air cargo are going to find the open fields of Long Island better suited for their plants than New Jersey which w ill be depending upon alow freight and ships.

There is no logical reason for putting

an airport freight terminal in the middle of tke residential island o t Queens.

That is what the Port of New York Authority is doing—half o f it with money that belongs t o New Jersey.

There is need for an air freight terminal in New Jersey. It belongs at McGuire.

Isn’t it about time the McGuire myth were exploded? The aviation experts tell u s the big field is located poorly. That the traffic lanes of the air could not be adjust' ed to accommodate the entry of the field into commercial aviation.

Then how is the field suitable for military aircraft?

The fact is the Port Authority doesn’t want to go to McGuire because the field is outside its jurisdiction. The military selfishly doesn't want to give up the prize.

And New Jersey is lotting this huge facility, which could be one of the great air freight centers of the world, rust and grow more and more idle at a time when th e country begs for more air service.

If Senators Caise and Williams and Congressman Helstoski and the other New Jersey representatives want to do their state and their country the best service possible they'll begin hammering at the walls which block McGuire Airport from its rightful growth.

Eaat Rutherford and Carlstadt, thrir plan for a regional high school defeated by a narrow margin, are now casting about for other solutions to their problem.

The regional program is the only program.

To give it up ii a poor example for the youth whose education they treasure.
