RODRIGO ABOLS #49CENTRE SHOOTS LEFT 6'4" 188 LBS RIGA, LVA JAN. 5, 1996

ACQUIRED: Vancouver’s seventh round choice, 184th overall in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

Although drafted in 2016, Abols is already a familiar face to the Canucks organization. Invited to 2015’s YoungStars tournament, Abols impressed enough to find himself on the top line with Virtanen and McCann. Unable to be signed due to CBA restrictions, the Canucks welcome him back into the organization with a 7th round selection. The big centre’s game is as explosive as fellow Latvian Ronalds Kenins’ and is willing to work hard and do

whatever it takes on the ice. He scored 49 points in 82 games played last year with the Portland Winterhawks.

GUILLAUME BRISEBOIS #54DEFENCEMAN SHOOTS LEFT 6'2" 175 LBS ST. HILAIRE, QC JUL. 21, 1997

ACQUIRED: Vancouver’s third round choice, 66th overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft

Defenceman Brisebois, a draft pick acquired in a trade that sent Eddie Lack to the Carolina Hurricanes, served as the captain of the QMJHL’s Acadie-Bathurst Titan where he scored 26 points in 52 games played before being traded to the Charlottetown Islanders this past offseason. Having begun his career as a forward, Brisebois’ offensive skills remain. He possesses a fearsome slapshot from the point, though his defensive qualities should not be overlooked. 6’2” and 175 lbs at 18 years of age, Brisebois still has room to grow and should ultimately become an imposing and intelligent two-way defenceman.

COLE CANDELLA #68DEFENCEMAN SHOOTS LEFT 6’2” 189 LBS MISSISSAUGA, ON FEB. 13, 1998

ACQUIRED: Vancouver’s fifth round choice, 140th overall in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

An offensively-minded defenceman, Candella scored 20 points in 37 games last year playing for the Hamilton Bulldogs in a season that was cut short by injury. This injury ended up affecting his draft placement, as he was ranked much higher but ended up slipping to the Canucks in the fifth round, suggesting he could possess considerably more upside than his draft position implies. One of the Bulldogs’ most relied-upon defensemen for a variety of situations, Candella’s two-way instincts are strong and contribute to a very complete game. His strengths in the areas of both skating and passing transition the puck up the ice well.

ACQUIRED: Signed as a Free Agent on July 15th, 2016.

Although Carcone ultimately went undrafted, his numbers speak for themselves. Still a relative unknown last season playing for the QMJHL’s Drummondville Voltigeurs, Carcone not only led his team in scoring but found himself among the league’s best with 89 points in 66 games played. His 47 goals placed him in the top 3 for league scoring, ahead of accomplished and esteemed prospects such as Pierre-Luc Dubois, who was eventually drafted 3rd overall. Carcone is a creative offensive force to be reckoned with.

Centre Cassels, is a diligent two-way forward who possesses good vision and passing skills, as well as the ability to finish plays. Son to former NHL centre Andrew Cassels, Cole adopts a similar cerebral approach to the game. Much like his father, he has a pass-first mentality. He is also very versitile and plays a defence-oriented game. Cole is above average in faceoffs, present on penalty kills and isn’t afraid to block shots making him a well-rounded player.

ACQUIRED: Free Agent

Speedy winger D’Aoust’s development took longer than expected, initially placing him under the radar of NHL teams, but one glance at his current statistics shows that his skills are now more cultivated. Along with Canucks signee Michael Carcone, D’Aoust was one of the top scorers of the QMJHL, scoring 98 points in 68 games played to rank him 4th in league scoring. D’Aoust was also a key contributor in the Cataractes’ journey to the QMJHL finals, adding another 26 points in 21 games played.

Demko has established himself as one of the star prospects in the Canucks system. Playing for Boston College, Demko put up 27 wins in 39 games played, including 10 shutouts. Demko also possessed a stellar 1.88 goals against average and 0.935 save percentage in the 2015-16 season. OLIVIER GALIPEAU #70DEFENCEMAN SHOOTS LEFT 6’1” 203 LBS MONTREAL, QC MAY 22, 1997

Galipeau comes equipped with leadership skills from the back end, having recently been named the captain of the QMJHL’s Val d’Or Foreurs, where he put up 37 points in 56 games played. This put him in the league’s top 15 scorers among defencemen. Galipeau is a strong two-way player who is capable of making matters more difficult for the opposition any time he steps on the ice, as evidenced by his strong plus minus of +28, contending with the QMJHL’s very best.

ACQUIRED: Signed as a Free Agent on April 29th, 2016.

Free agent goaltender Garteig was signed by the Canucks after making a name for himself at the NCAA Championships last year. Playing for Quinnipiac University, the 24-year old recorded 32 wins in 43 games, with a 1.91 goals against average and 8 shutouts. Eventually leading his team to the Championship final, he was defeated by a team anchored by fellow Canucks prospect Brock Boeser, but not before drawing the attention of the Canucks organization. A BC native, Garteig signed an entry-level contract and looks to make an impact soon.

OLLI JUOLEVI #48DEFENCEMAN SHOOTS LEFT 6’3” 179 LBS HELSINKI, FIN MAY 5, 1998

ACQUIRED: Vancouver’s first round choice, 5th overall in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

Juolevi, the Canucks’ 5th overall pick and first defenceman selected in the first round since 2005, looks poised for NHL stardom in the near future. The top-rated defenceman in the draft, Juolevi adds to the Canucks’ growing presence of youth on the blueline. In his rookie season for the OHL’s London Knights, Juolevi scored 42 points in 57 games, and added another impressive 14 in 18 playoff games. Although best known for his playmaking ability, moving the puck with ease, at 6’3” he is a physical threat as well. All aspects of Juolevi’s game are well-rounded and he can be deployed in a variety of situations. He should be a staple on Vancouver’s back end for years to come.

ACQUIRED: Vancouver’s fourth round choice, 101st overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft

LaBate is a well-rounded player with ideal power forward size, solid skating skills, and a good defensive awareness. He uses his frame to protect the puck and creates scoring chances by going into the tough areas. Last year he picked up 10 goals and 10 assists for the Utica Comets.

Originally a third-round draft selection by the Phoenix Coyotes, this 21-year old recent Canucks signee was acquired after obtaining 65 points in 63 games played with the QMJHL’s Gatineau Olympiques. A free agent signing from the OHL’s Erie Otters, he scored at a point-per-game pace last year on a team full of star players, acquiring 71 points in 68 games played. Maksimovich’s offensive strengths are easily able to counteract his size, often displaying the speed to maneuver around larger players as well as the hands to facilitate strong passes or find an opening in the net. In a split season with the QMJHL’s Halifax Mooseheads and Shawinigan Cataractes, he scored 70 points – including 36 goals – in 67 games. The year prior, his point-per-game status put him behind only 2 teammates, first-round picks and now established prospects Nikolaj Ehlers and Timo Meier. Often playing on a line with his brother Connor, the left winger joins the Canucks Young Stars impressive list of American born talent.

CARL NEILL #72DEFENCEMAN SHOOTS RIGHT 6’3” 206 LBS BLAINVILLE, QC JUL. 6, 1996

ACQUIRED: Vancouver’s fifth round choice, 144th overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.

Neill, playing on the QMJHL’s Sherbrooke Phoenix, has exploded offensively in his past two seasons with 90 points over 127 games as a defenceman. After being overlooked in the 2014 draft, Neill was looking to defy expectations and his performance led to a draft position the following year and a captaincy with Sherbrooke. Often deployed on the powerplay due to his hard slapshot, this purely offensive defenceman should continue to go above the call of duty.

ACQUIRED: Vancouver’s seventh round choice, 194th overall in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft

The Canucks’ final pick in the 2016 draft, McKenzie is primarily a strong defensive forward with offensive capabilities, scoring 53 points in 66 games played with the OHL’s North Bay Battalion last year. One of McKenzie’s biggest strengths is in the faceoff circle. McKenzie is a two-way threat, combining a steadily increasing level of physicality in his game with offensive creativity and playmaking.
