Now that he's left WG, he might be leaving ShopNBC too.

Maybe he's getting a real job?? It's an April Fools joke, his picture is missing on Shop, but
click on the space where he was, and he still is there. LOL

***Jim Skelton is a Free Agent????***
Maybe Eyal and the Invicta Team has decided to provide him with an offer that he
can't refuse...If in fact that he is a Free Agent. Good Luck to Jim w/whatever
venture he decides to invest himself (in). Have a good one and Happy Collecting ALL.

He just bought a big house. You would think he would have signed a new contract before he
did that. He likes Florida maybe he'll go back and go to HSN that has better CS and free
shipping. If he leaves Shop will be hurting fast.

He might be getting ready to start his own show like Lior. A watch show everyday with Jim.
Or maybe he is going into his own watch company. Speculating is fun. What do you think he
will do?

Well, well.
It's much too early to speculate, but I'm intrigued.
When you think of all that has transpired in the past 6-8 months, it does make you wonder.
It could be a April fouls joke. I hope that it is; but a lot of past coincidences would make a
lot more sense, if it were true.
Time will tell the story though.

I enjoyed watching Jim also and wish him the best whatever he decides. That being said, I
bought few watches during his shows and get my watches from many sources.

I think he is going to start making watches... Look at Mr. Fox "NFW" he makes a killer living
doing what he is doing and he has controle of design and price point. Jim has enough people
he has worked with in the past that he could start his own line and run with it... Never hurts
to have invicta as a vendor for movements ect, Just a thought..

Maybe the microdermabrasion rubbed him the wrong way, awww, sorry, bad joke. Maybe
Jim is going back to cigars or knives.
I guarantee you this, we will never know the official reason behind Jim leaving. You could
kind of tell when he left WatchGeeks, something just wasn't right, and now this. It could be
anything, he could have been angry his show was cut in half Sunday night, or it could just
be a falling out with management, we will never know.

I think we want to be careful to begin speculating on the man's financial status (or lack
thereof) as that would be ill advised.

I just know that without Jim I would still be wearing those puny little non-descript excuses
for a watch. I bought my first watch from Jim- the Skelton (oops Skeleton)Russian Diver and
have never considered ever looking back. Thank you Jim for the new hobby and addiction. I
will watch any show you are on. You and Watch Geeks taught me all I know. A Fan!

It might not be anything bad as far as the reason he is leaving so I will not speculate on
that. I just hope they find somebody as knowledgeable to replace him. Watching some of the

Jim and Shop both posted tha the is no longer with Shop. Jim wrote a note that he couldn't
say much at this time. He probably signed and got a severance package $$$ that doesn't let
him say much. Pretty common standard legal lang. I'll miss him but he's to good to not wind
up with a great deal. Good Luck Jim and God Bless.

They already have the premiere watch team in the industry. Jim was a member, albeit a
very strong member of that team. You gotta remember, it was Tim Temple that really began
the watch program for Shop. Jim was in a lucky place at the right time to take over the
reigns when Tim left. Jim was a capable steward who continued to grow the watch program
to where it is today. I would be very surprised if Shop's sales suffered in the least. While Jim
will be missed for his knowledge and insight, the show will go on.

It would be interesting to see Jim on HSN or QVC. Nothing wrong with a little competition
between the shopping networks.

Not very good news for people who like watch shows with entertainment, and the ability to
show a watch in their best light. Hope he gets a good gig in the industry. My guess is watch
designing is his gig. Imperious sure had his type of design cues all over them. TV shopping
channels other then ShopNBC have had minimal success selling watches being HSN and QVC
don't really feauture upscale products. He will be missed for what he helped create at Shop,
which is a rabid fan base. Best of luck is all I can say for both him and Shop.

I had always been appreciative of the level of access that we had here to a professional with
the level of knowledge in his craft that Jim has. He has always been kind and taken lots of
personal time to manage things like the "Ask Jim" section that was here.
As a bit of a fan, and maybe somebody who on occasion felt like I was chatting with a friend,
I sure hope all is ok with Jim and look forward to hearing that he's doing something that will
work out even better for him.

What would Jim sell on those channels, certainly not watches. Unless he starts a watch
program on those channels, they are not know for watches. That would be great if he did
though, imagine two watch channels !

Not to diminish Tim because he got me watching first years ago. But in reality, actual facts,
watch sales have surged during Jim's tenure, which are actual provable facts. Tim has been
on four different networks during that time, all no longer sell watches. I like Tim a lot, but
facts are facts. Yes they will be o.k., but there was only one host on ShopNBC that had a
show that featured his name. More proof is this website he and Michael created. To think
that Skip or Daniel, or even Shawn or Tim could've pulled this off as a big tool for watch
collecting is kidding themselves.

I don't know if we'll see Jim pushing product anymore. I think he has more upside with his
photography, which I think we all respect and enjoy. I would like to see him have something
he can enjoy on his own terms.
I will miss him from the Shop, and I wish him the best in any venture he chooses to explore.

I think it could be argued, factually, that Shop capitalized on the watch shows once they
discovered how much to the bottom line they could bring. The marketing and shear number
of shows dwarfed what they did back in the "old days." Jim only works a very few hours a
week and even admits that he could not possibly "do it all" and all the hours that the shows
have now grown to. True, he had a Show with his name on it, so what? So did Charla Rhines
at one point and look what happened to her. All I am suggesting is that one person can't
lead the whole team, no more than any one NBA player can make a team. The way Shop is
positioned with their watch talent will doubtless allow them to see great results in the years
ahead. So, yes, they will do fine and their numbers should not suffer in the least. Let's put it
this way, If I were a Shop exec, I would not be filing for chapter 11 quite yet.

Hopefully it was Jim's decision and not hoisted upon him .... this being said " IT WOULD
HAVE BEEN NICE FOR SNBC TO HAVE ALLOWED HIM TO SAY 'FAREWELL' TO HIS LOYAL
VIEWERS' ..... There is a right way to do things and somehow this worked out awkwardly
IMHO ....................................
I think Jim deserved that opportunity on the air ................... however it ended .. MRBLUE

That's a good point, Blue. Different companies handle things differently, depending on the
circumstance of the departure. Since we don't know exactly what precipitated this, it is
difficult to say. I can't recall that Tim had a "farewell" show when he left back in 2004 or
not...

Just a note of fact as a HR Manager: If an employee violated their contract and is let go, you
never and I mean never give them an opportunity to go on the air...this can cause alot of
legal ramifications... especially if the employee sues...just saying! Thanks!

Agreed. It would have been nice and probably minimized what is likely to be a lot of
speculation as to why he is leaving.

Although your comments may be true, I think they are incredibly insensitive at this time.
The wound is fresh my brother.
As for me I don't think I'll be buying anything from the shop any more.

Agree completely. Would have been nice to allow Jim to bow out gracefully, however, guess
we are not privey to the inner workings and machinations that occur in the ivory towers.
Now, the rumor mill will be ripe with speculation.

Tim left with some other hosts to start their own shopping channel to compete against the
shop, the WSS it lasted a year or 2. I don't recall a farewell show. I think I saw a boot
though.

Wow, that's too bad. Jim was really the only reason I watched the shows. Not to say the
other people weren't up to snuff, but I loved Jim's antics and knowledge. I'm not sure I'll
keep watching now, but we'll see. Good luck to Jim in whatever life has in store for him. He'll
be missed from here and the Shop.

I don't think Shop really cares how they did it or what is going to happen to them now. It
could be it for them. I'm sure Eyal counts alot on selling there. This could also hurt him bad.
In his last show yesterday he said his next show wasn't till Wednesday night. Which would be
the TTV with Mikeal.

Well said Matt. This is how all of the rumors begin and now I am curious to see what the
other Forum's are saying as well. I just think we should let him explain if he chooses to do so
(as he did when he left WG's) and if not that is his businees. We should just thank him for
how much he has taught us about this great hobby and wish him well in the next chapter of
his life.

hours a week and even admits that he could not possibly "do it all" and all the hours that
the shows have now grown to. True, he had a Show with his name on it, so what? So did
Charla Rhines at one point and look what happened to her. All I am suggesting is that one
person can't lead the whole team, no more than any one NBA player can make a team. The
way Shop is positioned with their watch talent will doubtless allow them to see great
results in the years ahead. So, yes, they will do fine and their numbers should not suffer in
the least. Let's put it this way, If I were a Shop exec, I would not be filing for chapter 11
quite yet.
Were going to have to agree to disagree on this one. How many members and customers are
at this site alone. Sorry but that's marketing smarts. Jim helped create something that had
never been done with the audience before, he appealed to their base sensibilities. Made it
seem fun to collect and somehow cool which no host has ever done selling watches before. It
could be argued that when Tim left on his own accord the network he was first part of WSS
featured many hours of watches. Many. Tanked within 3 months. I like all the hosts, they do
just fine, but to say that Jim wasn't a driving force would be by my guess off by a little. Yes
they will be fine, but remember the Brouhaha's that used to break out over hosts who
needed to learn what they were selling. Who do you think forced them to up their game. Tim
is great but he doesn't have the time Jim did to work more hours, being he has music
interests, and other vehicles and lives in Nashville. If you think Daniel and Skip, will up sales
more power to that opinion. Shawn has always worked late night his whole career so that's
out. Good luck to all involved is all I hope for.

I wish Jim much love and luck ... For a guy in his 30's he showed a lot of moxy and wit !!
At times, he was a little gruff and some may not have liked his style, but he is a consumate
entertainer and has a solid future somewhere !!
I'm sure we will be privy to it through his facebook page pretty soon .............. as for the
legal risks if he was allowed to say something on the air, plse, I don't think Jim was a threat
to say anything harsh on the air. He is mature in that way and would not self deface himself
or the shop on live TV. If anything, I think it would have been a sentimental moment we all
could have shared and enjoyed. He certainly, I think, if he had the opportunity given him
would have chosen to say a few nice words ..
Blue
You are correct Ralph .. whatever it is it was sudden. He did say his next show was Wedn. ..

Look maybe he left on his own. I dont think i would want to be associated with the Shop at a
time when everyone was undercutting their prices. I really dont see how they make a sale
with Invicta Thursday and Sunday Runs plus the others like WOW and DOD. Maybe he was
smart enough to get out of his own accord. The way i see things going i dont see the Shop
surviving on watch sales.

I liked watching Jim and Mike because they were a comedy team, but I didn't buy any
Invicta because of the pricing / shipping / tax thing. Jim will be fine regardless of what
happens. IMHO it's hard to buy on the Shop anyway, when I can find the same watches on
DoD's with no tax and free shipping, it adds up fast.

I kind of suspected something was up when Tim came back to Shop last year, Jim starts up
heavily on Face Book, Jim leaves the Forum, and now Skip is on Shop. These events were
telling me that Jim's days at the Shop could be coming to an end.
For what ever reason, Jim will do what's right for Jim, and will seek out new avenues
surrounding him.
Good Luck to you Jim.

This. No matter HOW important, or irreplaceable someone may think they are, or thinks
someone else is, they are wrong. Business will always be that way, unfortunately. All it takes
is someone to think they can save some money, or make some more money elsewhere, and
bye-bye...

Well ............. like'em or dislike'em, one thing is for sure. Life will not be the same
without Skelton on Shop, LOL As has been stated, taught many of us alot about
timepieces and when push came to shuv, nobody could move watches like he
could. Somehow, I have a feeling that we haven't seen the last of him in the watch
community especially since he's still accessible on Facebook. I for one am curious
as to his direction.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but isn't Jim behind the Imperious line of
watches, with Invicta financially backing it? Perhaps that has something to do with it?

Ninetynine percent of the people on this forum did not know Jim personally. He was a
salesman first, second, and last (in my humble opinion).
His main function was to seperate your hard earned money from you. He was very
successful with that.
I see no need to thank him for that success. It's more what was I thinking?

Thanks so much to all of you for all of your amazing support over the last 6 and a
Half years!!!!!

that's why Invicta bought this site correct, because they didn't like the business. You're a
businessman, in this economy would you risk losing customers, or in Invicta's case waste
their time owning a site that didn't drive revenue. Come on, that makes little sense.

I just heard the bad news about Jim leaving....I didn't know Jim
personally but He was like a friend to me...He was certainly
one of the most genuine charismatic professionals I have ever
known..Since joining watchgeeks and becoming a regular
viewer/customer of Shop...I have come to know a great deal
about horology because of Jim..
Jim will probably never know how much he has changed my life
and helped cultivate my interests in watch collecting...I'm sure
will never know the real reason why Jim has departed from
Shop but I doubt there is anyone who will be able to fill Jim's
shoes as well as he could...I seriously hope Shop was not
stupid enough to have Jim fired..because that would be a big
mistake/bad business decision for them in my book...I trust his
departure was of his own doing...He most find his own path in
life which for some has many turns..I wish him and his family
the best in life...Shop and watchgeeks will never be the same...
I will miss you Jim..I wish you and your family the best of luck
in all your future endeavors..
God Speed Jim S
you are the best
Jon

I wouldn't be surprised if Jim starts his own watch brand!! He has the knowledge, the eye for
a good design, the photography skill and us...the whole package. Good luck for him in all he
does.

Having spent 41 years on the Broadcast business it's my guess that either Shop or
Jim decided not to renew his contract. That would make any non-compete clause
he may have had null & void, freeing him to negotiate with anyone else. Maybe
Wing or Larry, maybe both together, are thinking of launching their own watch
channel, aka Lior? Or maybe Lior will make him an offer he can't refuse to join him
on WOW! Maybe Eyal will offer him an executive position with Invicta? All of this is
purely speculation on my part!

If it's true, then Lior got a winner and the best deal, but I would think that this will limit Jim's
skill in selling only Liors brands and only on WOW TV with a much smalle viewer base..

Made it seem fun to collect and somehow cool which no host has ever done selling watches
before. It could be argued that when Tim left on his own accord the network he was first
part of WSS featured many hours of watches. Many. Tanked within 3 months. I like all the
hosts, they do just fine, but to say that Jim wasn't a driving force would be by my guess off
by a little. Yes they will be fine, but remember the Brouhaha's that used to break out over
hosts who needed to learn what they were selling. Who do you think forced them to up
their game. Tim is great but he doesn't have the time Jim did to work more hours, being
he has music interests, and other vehicles and lives in Nashville. If you think Daniel and
Skip, will up sales more power to that opinion. Shawn has always worked late night his
whole career so that's out. Good luck to all involved is all I hope for.
Fair enough..I just pray that the "humans" involved in this are taken care of. I suspect
everyone will be okay.

I agree with this 100%. I have bought products since the Val-Vision days. The one thing Jim
did was create excitement and made it almost seem like a sport. That's something that is
hard to do. To think that ShopNbc can afford to lose any customers is not good business
sense. They are a distant third to QVC and HSN and are always close to financial troubles. I
hope for their survival because the company is based out of my home state, and they
employ many people here. I will keep supporting them as usual. That said, Skelton brought
a different sales tactic that provoked many to start collecting watches obsessively. Look
around here.

WOW! My head is spinning!
Some interesting thoughts come to mind-
-Did any one ever consider that maybe Jim "IS" the Imperious Watch Company?
-It's funny that everyone except Jim went to Basel; Eyal, Jill, Michael, and Tim.
-Maybe Jim did get an offer he couldn't refuse from another employer?
-This thing with WTWJ being cut down in time has happened more than once.
I'm trying to remain unbiased in this. Again, these are just thoughts.

jim leaving
I remember when Tim left, abruptly, I was shocked. Never thought I would buy another
watch from SNBC. Then Jim came and after a while, he was the watch man in my book.
Didnt Tim then try to do his own shopping network with a few other hosts at the time only to
fall flat?
Jim is a creative sort of spirit, thats what makes him interesting in my opinion. Im sure he
has something luring him and he will do great. OR......................
Maybe he is the Charlie Sheens Replacement on 2 & 1/2 men. Or with his personality it will
be 3 MEN. LOL
Go Jim, have fun, enjoy you family, get out of the snow and ride those bikes.
God bless.

Has anyone thought that Invicta hired him? Maybe the bottom rung on the ladder has
opened up. Mike or Jill may have moved up and Jim would be a great choice. He did say that
this was his last shop show as a host but, not as a company spokesman. Just my two cents.

I'm relatively new to watch collecting, started just shy of two years ago. Funny thing about
the watch shows was they became addicting, so much so that I have the Shop programmed
on my remote as one of my favorite channels (and I know I'm not alone). First watch I
brought on Shop was an Invicta Russian Diver Quinotaur because this guy with glasses and a
beard, who seemed bigger than life was amping me up about buying this watch. I gotta tell
you Jim will be missed because when there's a watch TTV, there's probably no one in the
building more excited than Jim. Tim is kewl, he's got a (compared to Jim) real laid back
attitude regarding the TTV's, but dude knows his stuff. The good news with no more Jim is I
can have my Sunday afternoon's back (no more Watch Time with Jim Skelton), but I'm not
gonna lie I miss the dude already.
Come to think of it something has to be up his sleeve (right). I'm sure we will see Jim sooner
than later.

Of all the watch hosts I found Jim the most informative and entertaining. If he has left
ShopNBC I wish him all the luck in his future be it a continued career elsewhere, time with
the family, or just retirement.

This is his latest post to me. I am very excited for the future, I will limit my response to that
for now. :-) Today is not a sad day at my house

No need to speculate on the reasons behind Jim's departure from the Shop. I bought my first
watch--a Jacques Lemans--4 years ago, because of Jim's presentation on the Shop. I've
been a fan ever since. He was extremely informative, and I found his passion was certainly
addictive. I wish him the very best, and I'll look forward to seeing him very soon selling
incredible timepieces.

What makes you think he will be back..He is going to host
Lior's new WOW show...it's all over the net..I'm not sure if his
decision to leave Shop was mutual or not..but I highly doubt we
will see him pop up again on Shop..As for whether or not he
decides to drop back and say hi who knows...
hopefully it was not Shop that gave Jim the boot...Jim's
departure may soon spell disaster for Shop if other vendors
decide to leave as well...Jim possessed a great deal of talent
and charisma and will be difficult to replace...I will miss Jim
very much..this is not good news

I kind of wish Jim would get up on Ustream or Justin TV and take a few calls.
You know calm down the "WG Nation". No info on future plans just an assurance we will see
him again in a different situation. If you like the idea post it to him up on Face book.

Well that tells me all this speculation is fruitless and the crepe hanging is quite
premature. If Jim is not sad, then I think it is best we sit back and wait for the
other shoe to drop.

I will continue to buy from shop and watch the shows if there's a watch I like, it seems to me
that quite a few vendors have left though, Chase-Durer, Philip, Renato and I do like Invicta
but I like variety of brands and I think that if WOW tv takes off it would not surprise me if
SWI left also, there are quite a few hosts that know about watches so if
they have the watch I will buy

This is all speculation of course, but I thinks it's safe to assume a few things. Jim left WG.s,
and since it is Invicta sponsored, I don't thinks he'll be working with them. Now he's left the
Shop. And before he left, all but Invicta had fewer shows or left all together. IMO the profit
margin on watches is dropping, and neither the vendors or the Shop are willing to take a cut.
So we may actually be seeing the end of watch shows on the Shop. That would also help
explain Jim's leaving. The times they are a changing, and for us geeks I'm not sure for the
better.

How about that he is the real owner of Imperious? Makes as much sense as anything. Eyal
financially backs Jim for his creative design and gives him access to his suppliers. It could be
that it was a conflict of interest. Perhaps they gave him six months from the product launch.
Not really far fetched if you really think about it.
I wish him well in what ever endeavor he embarks on.
I see somebody else has an Imperious theory. Well played. Sorry for the repeat.

Interesting theory...If this is true...Isn't is safe to assume that a
large portion of Shop's sales are due in large part to watch
sales....Speculative of course but if Shop were to abandon
watch sales from their inventory lineup...It would spell the end
on ShopNBC...

Jim was about the last reason I watched and shopped the Shop, won't name names but can't
stand most of the hosts when they present watches. And no offense, only Tim is bearly
tolerable IMO. With Jim leaving and the SNBC price escalations, I'm probably done there...

AT the end of his show last night I recall Jim saying that his next show would be Wednesday
night.
I don't believe he would have said that if it were not true at the time.
I think something happened today to facilitate his departure from snbc. JMO...

Well its time to cut out the middleman, namely SNBC.
If Invicta leaves SNBC that's going to mean hard times for SNBC.
Watch revenue is a material number.

Jim Skelton - Hasta la Vista BABY!
Just read Jim's FB page.
It's official, he's no longer with SNBC
We'll have to wait for details.

Just my opinion, but I have seen this coming. With the addition of Skip Connelly doing the
Invicta shows, Jim leaving Watchgeeks, and now he has left SNBC. Kind of a slimy departure
for a supposed "Classy" guy, right ?

I will miss being yelled at :)
Well I for one will miss Jim. I happened to come across one of his watch shows around 2
years ago and the rest is history.
I think Tim and Shawn W. do a great job at presenting watches also. My wife will be thrilled
that Jim is gone ! She really did not like his voice
But I wish him well and I am sure it will not be long before we the shaved monkey and other
farm animals appear with him on the TV somewhere soon.
My credit cards will begin to cool down now that he is off the air.
Gods Speed Jim and only the best for the future !

I had a bad feeling about him all of a sudden leaving the Forum. He was one of the founders
for pete's sake. He took pride in being in this Forum and I believe he really enjoyed
photographing all the new upcoming watches as well as interacting with fellow WG's
This really sucks, I got into watch collecting because of Jim. I said it before and I will say it
again, I miss him and I think ShopNBC will too!

Not that anyone is keeping track, but this speculatiion isn't new. I've raised this several
times previously, the last time being in Jim's farewell thread when he left WG's. He's never
commented on this speculation. Of course, if it's true, it's his and Invicta's business and
they'll speak about it when they wish. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
In any event, I wish Jim well; and I'll miss his shows on the Shop.

Well, this comes to a surprise to me because just a little while back when he announced his
departure from WatchGeeks he said that he wasn't leaving ShopNBC

To dispel any rumors: No, I am not leaving ShopNBC.
Something must have went down in the last Month or so after his initial post saying that he
wasn't leaving ShopNBC...I think that it must have been his decision though because not
even a year ago Jim posted about signing a new contract w/ ShopNBC and moved into a new
home not far from where he was prior...it just seemed like he was positioned to be at
ShopNBC for years to come.
It was Jim that got me started in watch collecting on ShopNBC, and I'll miss all of his antics,
but Tim's style has really grown on me (I wasn't familiar with Tim prior to his return to
ShopNBC), plus I like watching Shawn's watch shows, and when Jim was missing in action
due to his throat surgery last year, Daniel Green filling in for many watch shows has grown
on me a lot also, and I think those factors alone will make missing Jim on ShopNBC a lot
easier for me personally.
Like some other's have mentioned, if I had to take a guess of where he could end up next,
I'd say World of Watches with Lior as well because having someone that's knowledgeable
about watches (in addition to Lior himself) would go a long way. If Jim were to join Lior, I
think it's possible they could start having more than just Weekend shows.
Whatever he does, or wherever he turns up, I wish him well.

I'm really gonna miss the watch time shows with JS on Sunday nights. At least you knew
every Sunday there'd be a watch show, now what ? Was the Spring Forward event the last
hurrah ? ShopNBC will never be the same. JS is a major reason for my rekindled watch
passion. Hopefully he stays in the industry. Best of luck Jim !

There is a site that has been saying he will be leaving, but it is an inflammatory site, so
won't post the link. If you do a search it will come up. I thought the blogger was a kook,, but
looking at it now, he seemed to know something.
Definitely will miss Jim.

I'm very surprised that this went down. If you read his FB posts of the last 24hrs one would
presume that as of last night he was a man happy about work and no hit of anything
brewing.
His FB updates since breaking the news tells us he's ok and that it's not a sad day in his
house.
In all 11 pages I have burned my eyes reading I saw no one mention that not too long ago
he posted several times over other speculation that he was with the Shop for the long hall as
he had just inked a new contract (new car/house), anyone remember this?
All that aside, I truly wish the man well. I am one of the Geeks that he took the time to
email and address a Shop issue for and I still find it amazing that he took that on not being a
part of the business CS side.

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this, but on his FB, Jim's WOTD is the Jailbreak with the
comment: "WOTD: Imperious Jail Break. We're bustin outta here...."
According to FB that was about 6 hours ago, so around 3 PM EST... I think that was before

If he's going to work for Invicta, wouldn't he have to deal with the shop at some point unless
Invicta is also leaving. But why leave Watchgeeks considering it's an Invicta site now. Or no?
He will be missed here but I'm sure I will still buy watches.

I will greatly miss Jim his product knowledge and high interest in the whole personalness of
watch collecting is so right on track. Is Invicta going to start there own Show or sales
network. It would be just the kind of our-of-the-box thinking of Eyal and Invicta. Wait and
see ??????

There are many opinions about Jim, some good, some not so good; but the bottom line is
that he was responsible for bringing a group of strangers together and turning WG a
community. It's dissapointing that a few would choose to take a shot at him on tbe forum he
created. I will miss his shows.

Jim, you are the one that encourage my late fathter and myself to start collecting together.
You have a great wit about you and where ever you go, you will be admired-for your
honesty, your dedication, and your stick to your guns attitude. Time will not be the same
without you, but I am glad to say that I had a chance to learn from Jim Skelton-a man
whose love for time moved and inspired a nation of watch enthusiasts around the world. God
Bless in your future endeavors Jim.

I remember that thread as well..I guess the 'speculation' was
unfounded.i.e. there was no contract renewal..no negotiation
and Jim had already decided to sever ties with ShopNBC for
better prospects having handed over the ownership of
watchgeeks to Invicta..
Either way I still miss the guy
Jon
"In all 11 pages I have burned my eyes reading I saw no one mention that not too long ago
he posted several times over other speculation that he was with the Shop for the long hall as
he had just inked a new contract (new car/house), anyone remember this?"

Yep, this would be great, and it would allow Jim to present a wide variety of watches
(like he used to be able to do back when Your Time with Jim Skelton started).

With all due respect to the other hosts, WG moderators and contributors, there will be no
replacing Jim. No one makes watch collecting as entertaining, educational and interesting as
he has. I got into watch collecting by his example and have learned much in the process.
Without his excitement and enthusiasm for the hobby it is not as compelling. And, as
someone more eloquent than I am said above--Now, what will I watch on Sunday evening?
This sucks.
Thank you, Jim!

I got the inside scoop, this is what happened. SNBC got very upset when Jim shaved his
beard and just left that soul patch a few weeks ago. Jim grew the beard back in an effort to
keep his gig but the Shop said the damage was already done and had to let him go.
Seriously though, none of the speculation makes much sense to me.
-If he was deeply involved in Imperious, why would he leave this site when the new owners
also own Imperious? Makes ZERO sense!
-A move to WOW is not a lateral move, it's a big step back. It's only on a few hours a week
and mostly online. Not high profile enough for Jim.
I suspected this was going to happen. It seemed like Jim was on less and less over the last
several months and he was also doing very late slots that he normally wouldnt. Leaving this
site was also very telling, IMO.
Sure, everyone is replaceable, I agree with that. But in this case, no one currently employed
by SNBC will truly "replace" Jim. They can fill in the hours he normally would have worked,
but they will not replace all that Jim brought to the table. Other hosts have knowledge, but
none come even close to bringing the combination of knowledge, salesmanship and
entertainment that Jim excelled at. Not even close!
That doesn't mean someone from the outside can't, but I doubt that will happen either.
As has been stated, it's always about money. Maybe Jim was just too expensive. But since
Jim had a contract, if they terminate that contract early, they have to pay out whatever is
remaining on it. I doubt they would have just let Jim go if it was only about the money,
because SNBC is losing in this scenario. They could have let him ride out the contract and
got service from him for the length of their investment.
Jim will be fine, he's too smart and talented to not get another good situation happening for
himself!

That's what I said when Tim left Shop and Jim took over. It sucks, but it does get better. I
never missed one of Tim's shows on Sunday afternoon for over 5 years. I came home from a
vacation and no Tim...there was this Jim character. Frankly, I was bummed. As time went
on, Jim turned out to be a terrific host. Time takes care of a lot of things, change not the
least of which. It is our nature to resist change and embrace familiarity. It will be tough, but
the sun will shine again.

If he was fired, Shop will now say that... It could be against the law in MN.
I know here in CO, if someone calls an ex-employer, all that ex-employer can LEGALLY say is
"yes" or "no" when asked if a person ever worked there.
Only Shop and Jim know the truth and I doubt we will ever hear all of the facts.
I do believe he was fired... No idea why, but he was certainly planning on being on air this
week.

Why do you think nobody knew? This could have been in the works for days, weeks or
longer. It is common when contracts are involved that one or both parties are prevented,
legally from discussing any aspect of the separation. There might have been lots going on
the nobody was talking about in order to protect a financial settlement. Who knows?

The program guide at Shop still has WTWJ on its schedule for Sunday which probably means
his leaving was unexpected. Just another theory.

Think Jim knew this was coming and his leaving WG had something to do with this. You
would think Jim would team up with Invicta somehow, but if this is the case why leave WG
that is now owned by Eyal. I know Jim did a lot at WG and needed a break, but why leave
altogether? Maybe his new gig has nothing to do with Invicta and being associated with WG
would result in some conflict with his new career. Isn't speculating fun .

Can't play here for a few days, but Sherm emailed me that Jim has left SNBC.
I hope it was on Jim's terms and he is happy. That's the bottom line to me.

I REMEMBER WHEN TIM LEFT. YOU DID NOT KNOW IT WAS HIS LAST SHOW. IT WAS JUST OVER. I CALLED SHOP AND SPOKE TO ONE OF
THE EXECUTIVES, THEY SAID IT WAS TIMS CHOICE TO LEAVE,AND THEY WOULD FIND A EQUAL REPLACEMENT. THEY FOUND JIM. I
DID'NT LIKE JIM AT FIRST. IT TOOK ME A FEW MONTHS TO WARM UP TO HIM WITH THE MEMORY OF TIM (WHO STARTED ME IN THE
WATCH COLLECTING HOBBY) THAN AS I WATCHED I GREW TO LIKE JIM AND TIM BECAME A DISTANT FOND MEMORY. THAN I BEGAN TO
SEE TIM ON OTHER SHOWS AND NOW I HAD THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS. I BELIEVE THIS SAME SITUATION WILL HAPPEN WITH
JIMS LEAVING. WAIT AND SEE, THEY MAY FIND ANOTHER
REPLACEMENT AND THAN THE CYCLE BEGINS AGAIN.
