Prom and Boat Party 2016
End-of-the-year activities such as Prom and the Boat Party are designed for DHS Seniors to create
capstone experiences that will likely produce life-long memories. To ensure that these memories are
positive, I encourage you to carefully consider your plans in order that you will make wise and safe
choices. It is illegal and against school policy for students to use alcohol and/or other drugs. Think
carefully about these decisions and discuss plans with your parents. Remember, many people love and
care for you. Have a safe, positive and memorable experience.
Prom After Party 2016
Prom After Party is a substance free, all night celebration for DHS Seniors. The “lock-in” event is
sponsored and chaperoned by Deerfield Parent Network, not by DHS Staff. This year’s event will be
held at Sachs Recreation Center in Deerfield. More information is available on the Senior Class 2016
webpage.

Boat Party
We will continue the tradition of having a Project Graduation activity for the seniors. Our Boat Party is
part of a nationwide movement started over thirty years ago to promote drug and alcohol-free events
celebrating graduation.
This year's Senior Class Boat Party will take place on Thursday, May 19, following the Senior
Celebration activities. Senior Celebration activities should end by 5:00 p.m. Seniors will board buses to
leave before 5:00 p.m. to take us to Whirlyball in Vernon Hills, a restaurant entertainment complex
filled with food and fun. Please look for an email that will contain a Waiver that needs to be signed if
you want to participate in Laser Tag, Whirlyball or the climbing wall. At 8:00 p.m. we will board buses
and go to Navy Pier for a late night cruise on Lake Michigan aboard the Spirit of Chicago. During the
cruise, students will enjoy a midnight buffet, dancing, and a spectacular view of the Chicago
skyline. The cruise will conclude at 12:00 a.m., and we will return to DHS at approximately 1:00 a.m.
Tickets for this year's celebration will be on sale at the DHS Bookstore for $90.00 (correction from
February letter) from May 2– May 13. Financial assistance is available for students in need. Please
contact Brian Verisario at 224-632-3020 if you have any questions or need additional information.

Attention all 2016 Senior Parents:
The Deerfield Parent Network Prom After Party Committee is already hard at work preparing for the
9th annual Prom After Party scheduled immediately after Prom on May 14th at the Sachs Center!
WHAT is the Prom After Party? After the formal prom ends, the coach buses will bring all seniors and their dates back to the Sachs
Center to keep the party going! The After Party is a substance-free, all-night celebration for DHS
seniors and their prom dates. Seniors not attending prom are also welcome. FREE FOR ALL SENIORS
& DATES! Attendees check in by midnight and remain at the celebration until 3:00am the following
morning.
WHAT happens at the Prom After Party?Giant inflatable obstacle courses, 3-on-3 volleyball and basketball tournaments, casino games, poker
tournament, air hockey, table games and Twister all make for a lively mix; karaoke, a photo booth, a
magician, and a live DJ keep things jumping; and teen-friendly treats, including Lou Malnati’s pizza,
hot wings, smoothies, DQ ice cream, and gourmet coffee drinks keep the kids’ energy levels high. To
top things off, some lucky seniors will go home with amazing prizes, including tickets to Lollapalooza
and sporting events, Ipads, and flat screen TVs!
WHY do we have the Prom After Party? The idea of a prom “after party” came about 10 years ago in response to a growing concern over what
options were available to our kids after prom. The safety and well-being of our high school students
is our first priority. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, on a typical prom
weekend: 48 American teenagers will be killed in vehicle crashes; 5,202 American teenagers will be
injured; 40% of the deaths will be alcohol-related. The After Party has been helping to keep DHS
students safe on prom night.
HOW does the Prom After Party Happen? As a result of the generosity of local businesses, civic organizations, the DHS staff, members of the
Deerfield community, and most of all PARENTS, we are able to fund this party so that it is FREE for the
kids!
What should you do as a Parent?1. Sign the ONLINE Parent Waiver – deadline MAY 9th at MIDNIGHT
2. Contribute – Donate ONLINE or use the enclosed form for parent donations.
3. Support - Talk this up with your student since well over 98% of seniors participated in 2015.

will be able to carry a cell phone and a camera with them during the party. All students must sign-in at registration table between 11:30PM -12:00AM. (No admittance after
12:00AM unless Prom bus delayed.)
If your student/guest does not have a waiver on file, we will have to call you and it will be between the hours of 12:00am and 3:00am. So, if we wake you, please remember that we’re trying to keep your child safe.
Students will not be allowed to return to a vehicle after entrance into the Sachs Center. If a student wants to leave the party before 3:00 AM, we will have to call a parent/guardian and
get their permission. Students are expected to follow all District 113 policies. The District 113 Drug and Alcohol Policy
will be in effect at this event. Any students in violation of this policy will be removed from the After Party and their parents will be contacted to arrange for their safe return home.
Attendees will be allowed to leave at 3:00am and not prior to that time. After Party will be run completely by parent volunteers and is not sponsored by DHS nor
chaperoned by DHS staff.
