STATUS/IMPACTS
Overall status 39 River Water Bodies - 7 good, 5 moderate, 26 poor and 1 bad WB. No lakes.
Status elements Q score dictates overall status for all water bodies less than good. Physchem is moderate in 3 poor water bodies and 1 bad water body. Chemical Status not monitored.
Possible Impacts -EPA Water Quality2007
AhacronanePoor ecological status again recorded in this calcareous, spring-influenced, river. Q3 in 2008. AhavarraghUnsatisfactory with continuing serious pollution downstream of Drumcolliher (0200) and poor status further downstream West of Mundellihy (0800). Q2 – Q3 in 2008. ArraDeterioration recorded in Newcastle West where water quality status was poor. From Q4 in 2002 and 2005 to Q3 in 2008. Broadford StreamContinuing with only moderate ecological status, Q3-4 in 2008. Bunoke StreamImproved with good ecological status at two of the three locations assessed but continuing with poor status at the uppermost one. Q3-4 in 200 up to Q4 in 2008. DeelSome improvement with four locations reaching good status. However continuing unsatisfactory at the others, with only moderate and poor status, due to agricultural and municipal discharges. Drainage works at one site, Palatine Bridge (1000) resulted in ecological effects. The crayfish has returned to the Deel and is reproducing successfully at some locations. Lower reached appear to have improved status from 2002 and 2005 but still remain less than good at Q3-4. LismakeeryPoor ecological quality again recorded at this calcareous site. Q3 in 2008.

Good Agricultural Practice Regulations inspections/enforcement. Other diffuse sources may need recommandations.Septic tanks - At risk septic tanks are to be prioritised for inspections. Subsequent upgrade or connection to municipal systems depends on inspection and economics tests.
Diffuse Sources
Morphological pressures in the 17 At-Risk water bodies require chanelisation investigation to establish if supplementary measures are required to address water quality issues associated with morphology.
Other
SELECTED ACTION PROGRAMMENB All relevant basic measures, general supplementary measures and SEA mitigation measures apply
Point Sources WWTP measures are summaried in the Table below WWTP upgrades & licensing to be implemented where required. Examine the terms of discharge authorisations to determine whether they require review for the purpose of compliance with water body objectives including protected area objectives and environmental quality standards.
Future Developments
Throughout the river basin management cycle future pressures and developments will need to be managed to ensure compliance with the objectives of the Water Framework Directive and the Programme of Measures will need to be developed to ensure issues associated with these new pressures are addressed.
