Why RFCU Wants YOU to be Financially Strong Your parents and your credit union want you to grow up healthy. But most of the time that conversation is about getting you to eat healthy and spend less time in front of screens. Today we are talking about your future financial health.

You may say, “I’m too young to think about saving money”. NOT! It is never too early to save.

This is why Riegelwood Credit Union has made it one of our top goals this school year to engage more closely with the students at Acme Delco Middle School.

Each Wednesday, Ms. Williams goes into the classroom and spends time with students talking about “money matters”.

RFCU recognizes that kids learning to make smart money decisions is a quality-of-life issue, one that’s every bit as important as a healthy diet and regular exercise.

Gear Up for April Youth Month at RFCUEvery April, credit unions across the country celebrate National Credit Union Youth Month. Unlike other institutions, credit unions are not-for-profit, and one of their seven foundational principles is EDUCATION. We genuinely want to see our youth members succeed and gain financial strength. So, tell all your friends and family about credit unions and how we are “different”, in a good way.

Kids can start using smart money technical skills by grocery shopping with your parents (or a friend) and find the best deals. Learn the concept of money early by having a savings account with your credit union will help you understand why credit unions are different and how we work for you as an owner of the credit union.

You are an OWNER of the credit union when you have an account with RFCU. RFCU offers prizes and incentives for saving money and reaching savings goals throughout the year.

These habits could be one of the first steps you take to become a healthy saver. Challenge a friend to open an account and start saving like you do!

Every year RFCU searches for two rising SOPHOMORE, JUNIOR or SENIOR STUDENTS that are members of RFCU to attend a Leadership Camp at beautiful White Lake, NC.

Surprisingly, very few students take advantage of this educational opportunity their credit union offers. Two RFCU students along with 50 other youth from across NC, collaborate to learn about Cooperatives. Participants will open a mock t-shirt business and apply the leadership skills they have learned during the week while having a lot of fun.

The 2020 Leadership Camp will be held June 15-19. RFCU encourages qualifying (grade year students) to apply. Applications will be available in March and need returned by May 15. Contact: ewilliams@riegelwoodfcu.net
