During the week of 15 to 19 October, Sportsmans Warehouse staff from across the country converged on Johannesburg, where the Regional Office hosted the company’s annual Management Forum. Managers, buyers, planning managers, operational staff and executives gathered to assess the last financial year and the performance of various categories and, naturally, to set goals for the year ahead. Awards were also presented, where stand-out stores were commended for great effort and performance.

Polokwane SWH won, having been involved in a staggering 31 events. In second place was last year’s winner, Rondebosch, with 18 events. Polokwane Branch Manager Benjamin Koka accepted the award from Faeez Mahri.

Modderfontein came first with 149% growth in net profit from FY12 to FY13.Branch Manager Brighton Nkomo accepted the award from Faeez Mahri.

The Spur Mountain Bike ClassicSomerset West

The Constantia Valley Grape RunCape Town

The Spur Mountain Bike Classic is the oldest funride on the Western Cape MTB calendar and remains one of the favourites. On 29 September, a record of 1700 riders participated in the four different distance races.

Our Somerset West team was there to cheer on the riders and hand out much-needed cooldrinks at the 27 km mark.

The Constantia Valley Grape Run, which took place on 20 October this year, follows a breathtaking course through the historic wine estates of the Constantia Valley. The event hosts three distances, a half marathon, a 14 km and a 5 km fun run, attracting in total close to 1200 participants.

We hosted pre-registration in our stores and a watering point en route was manned by our team from Tokai. Well done guys!

Grey College Street MileBloemfontein

Aldam Triathlon and Multi-sport DayWelkom

This year the Grey College Street Mile’s 16th anniversary fell on 16 October. 360 runners took part in what is an annual event on our Bloemfontein stores’ calender. David and his team were there to execute the branding and encourage the runners.

We also helped by providing vouchers to enhance the range of prizes offered.

This, a brand-new event on our calendar, hosted by the Goudveld Multi-sport Club, was held on 26 October. The entire programme took place at the Jim Fouche Park in Welkom and attracted 700 athletes. It included a 21 km trail run, a standard triathlon, a 70 km MTB race and a 3000 m swim, among other events. Frikkie Bouwer and the team from Northridge executed the branding.

Jamie-Lee is also a new member of our merchandise team and works as a merchandise distributor in Arnold de Villier’s team. Jamie-Lee is a self-confessed bookworm, when she’s not reading she enjoys socialising with friends, playing soccer and listening to music.

Janice joined our accounts department in September and works as an accounts clerk under the guidance of Gillian Mulder. Janice studied BTech Cost and Management Accounting at Cape Peninsula University of Technology.

Janice is an animal lover and in her spare time she does volunteer work at the Animal Anti-cruelty League.

Bokkie visits Sportsmans Warehouse

Moresport employees are spreading Christmas cheer by putting their hearts into The Santa Shoebox Project, an inspiring community initiative that co-ordinates the donation, collection and distribution of personalized gifts at Christmas time to underprivileged children across South Africa.

South Africa’s most beloved mascot came to visit our Cape Town stores. Fans had the chance to have their photos taken with Bokkie and get his autograph. Our Canal Walk staff certainly enjoyed his visit.

Impi ChallengeOn 20 October twenty brave Head office employees took part in the Impi Challenge. This adrenalin-pumping trail adventure race really puts one’s body to the test as participants need to complete 17 challenges over 12 km. Well done, guys!
