No More Pain
It comes out of nowhere. One day you’re feeling just fine, and the next thing you know you’re hurting. It
happened to me Saturday while my in-laws and I and the boys were down working in the basement of my house. I
was having to throw some things away and also move some things away from the wall where we had been having
some water intrusion. One of the things I tried to move was a portable infared heater. The problem was I didn’t bend
my legs enough, and as soon as I tried to pick the heater up I knew I had messed up. I didn’t feel a pop, but I sure
felt the pain. Three days later I’m still hurting, but I went to Walgreen’s this morning (at the advice of my mother:))
and bought some of their brand of ice blue gel with menthol for cooling pain relief. I told Dawn it works instantane-
ously!
We know this life has much more in the way of aches and pains than just back pain. We have death, sick-
ness, disease, heartache, physical ailments. All of these things are part of living in this world. However, I want to
call your attention to a particular Scripture that John records: “…He shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; and
there shall no longer be any death; there shall no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have
passed away” (Rev. 21:4). Doesn’t that sound like a contrast to what we face in this life?
I’m probably in the minority here, but I don’t actually believe Heaven is being described in this passage. It
would seem from the context that what John sees in this new heaven and earth and this holy city, the new Jerusalem
coming down out of heaven would be a picture of what the church would look like after the persecutions were over
from the Roman Empire. However, I think the imagery can be applied to Heaven. We know that none of the bad
things that exist on this earth will be in Heaven. Heaven will be a place of reward and eternal life while Hell will be

a place of eternal fire and torment (Mt. 25:31-46). It will be great to finally have that day arrive where we don’t
have to deal with the issues in this life, but until then we know that is part of being here on earth. Any pains we
have to deal with now are worth it to be able to be in Heaven for eternity with God the Father and His Son, Jesus
Christ.

Update from Haiti:
We have received word that JoJo, the little boy who was with Roberta Edwards when she was
murdered, has been found. It is believed that he has been placed in something similar to a de-
partment of children’s services. Also, it has been reported that five individuals have been
taken into custody for Roberta’s murder. We also have more information in a letter from the
Estes congregation in Henderson, TN, so feel free to check with the church office if you
would like to read the letter in its entirety. Praise God for this wonderful news!
