Dear Church Family,Have you thought about just how disruptive the Christmas season is? I mean it. You think about the decorations that have to be pulled from a dusty place and furniture that has to be rearranged and the needles shed from your Christmas

tree that nd their way via the bottom of someone’s shoe into your bathroom. And then parties. Every night of this “holiday break” is actually planned. Don’t forget family coming in and sleeping in your beds and dirtying your dishes and not keeping your kitchen island clean like it should be.

Now before I get accused of being some sort of no-good pastoral Scrooge, let me say that I think the interruptive nature of this season is really good for us. Routine has the word “rut” built into it and can easily turn into one if we’re not careful. The shock that Christmas is to our system is good. I won’t speak for you, but let me tell you a few things it does for me.

For one, it reminds me that chaos isn’t always my enemy. It reminds me that Jesus was right when He said it’s better to give than to receive - I know this because the Bible says it and I see the wonder in the eyes of my kids. It reminds me that pulling o small or big surprises is a lot of fun, and God probably had fun doing His deal on that rst Christmas. It reminds me that it’s good to think about Inconceivable Ideas on Important Days. It reminds me that just because it isn’t my normal rhythm doesn’t mean it’s not a good rhythm.

If I don’t get to see you on Thursday night for our Christmas Eve services (4pm and 6pm), I want you to know how grateful I am that God gave me the gift of serving as the pastor of this church. Have the merriest of Christmases.

    Kingdom…Trent
