NEWSOMEYEDECEMBER 2019

Did You Know?We need our tears! They not only moisturize and lubricate our eyes, they also combat infection by flushing particles away from the cornea, or the surface of the eye. Unfortunately, some people do not produce enough quality tears to maintain eye health. If you’re experiencing symptoms like dryness or grittiness, sensitivity to light, excessive tearing, burning, stinging, or blurred vision, you may be suffering from dry eye disease.

Newsom Eye has the solution! There are a series of options to combat dry eye disease.

• MiBo Thermoflo addresses obstructed meibomian glands along the rim of the eyelid with consistent, emissive heat. This will improve lipid secretion.

• Autologous Serum Eye Drops uses a patient’s blood to create a serum with nutrients and growth factors to improve the symptoms of dry eye. A great alternative when traditional treatments don’t work.

• PROKERA® is an FDA-approved biologic corneal bandage/medical device used to treat dry eye syndrome, recurrent corneal erosion, keratitis and corneal burns.

• Omega-3 nutritional supplements have been proven to improve eye health and relieve dry eye symptoms.

• Prescription Eye Drops, like Restasis® Ophthalmic Emulsion drops, or Xiidra®, help increase the eye’s natural ability to produce tears and treat the symptoms of dry eye disease.

• Artificial Tears, like Systane, Refresh, and Retain, are over-the-counter lubricant eye drops that can help manage your symptoms and provide relief.

• Scleral/PROSE Lens Fitting are a better fit for patients who wear contact lenses. A scleral lens will incorporate your prescription while simultaneously reducing dry eye.

If you’re suffering from dry eye, come see the board-certified optometrists at Newsom Eye. Newsom Eye specializes in comprehensive eye exams and ocular diseases such as diabetes, glaucoma and specialty dry eye conditions. Reach out and schedule your appointment with Newsom Eye today.
