King’s Lynn Festival Chorus NEWSLETTER 6 Donations for the Chorus at no extra expense to you! As we approach the climax of the season for giving, and your fingers are busily tapping on keyboards ordering those special gifts, please consider clicking onto your favourite site via https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/ causes/klfchorus/ Registering and using this platform will help King’s Lynn Festival Chorus raise funds every time you shop online, with over 4000 big name retailers signed up, including Argos, John Lewis, ASOS, and Booking.com. Collectively, these donations, whether they be small or large, will help us maintain the standards that you have rightly come to expect from us, as well as helping to keep ticket prices at a reasonable level as much as possible. Thank you if you are already using this platform. Talking of fund raising, heartfelt thanks go to our members who have taken on so enthusiastically the raising of funds for our ‘big gig’ next April: Bach’s ST MATTHEW PASSION (SMP). So many members have made huge efforts in organising themselves to do so much. Our SMP fund has benefitted from ongoing regular fund-raising efforts such as cake making, sponsored slimming, raffles, copper coins collections, books and greeting card sales and sale of preloved items. Plus we have seen huge ‘one-off’ fund raising efforts such as Tom’s marathon walk, a tombola, a concert ‘ Around the Harp’, a Coffee and Craft morning, a fun Music Quiz, and even Parachute Jumping. There have also been others who have financially donated and ‘sponsored’ specific items - like a 2nd violinist’s bow and other diverse objects - to make the fund-raising fun. A huge thank you - we salute you and apologies if anyone has been left off the list inadvertently. The fund stands in excess of £6000 at the moment. But it’s by no means closed to further donations! By Grace Ng December 2019 OUR NEXT CONCERT Christmas Fantasia Saturday 21st December 2019 4.30 pm The Minster, Saturday Market Place, King’s Lynn In everyone’s year, two kinds of dates are fixed points: anniversaries (e.g birthdays) and Christmas! In this time of politically shifting sands and uncertainty, Christmas Day stands out like a solid, secure beacon, a fixed point which we can all relate to. Join us then, to celebrate and give thanks that we’ve survived the highs and lows of this turbulent year and look to the new year with renewed hope. Christmas Fantasia is a programme of seasonal music and readings, something old, something contemporary. New to some, comfortingly familiar to others. From Palestrina to Jingle Bells there’s something for everyone. The perennial choral favourite ‘Fantasia on Christmas Carols’ by King’s Lynn’s adopted resident Ralph Vaughan Williams is a centrepiece around which seasonal readings of Dickens, Madeleine L’Engle and others are embellished by the singing of popular and familiar carols for all, to raise the roof of the Minster. Immerse yourselves in the sounds of the splendid Minster organ with its recent additions of new pipes, put through its paces by our own Ben Horden. Oh yes, don’t forget there’ll be mulled wine and mince pies too, available during the interval. Our thanks go to Penny Matkin, the ‘go-to’ person for this concert. Ring Penny on 01553 672416 to buy tickets. £12 in advance and £15 on the door. Children under 12 free. Thank you for being on our mailing list.
