Kwartaal 4

MUSIEK

CHESS

The Gr.0 chess players had their own Chess Tournament on Wednesday. They also

showed off their skills and had a wonderful lesson where they received a certificate of

participation.

The Battle of the Knights Chess Tournament

It was an exciting Friday afternoon of chess. Our chess players played five games in

total. Each and every player enjoyed their games and finished the chess season well.

We had invited children that are not part of the chess team to take part in the

tournament. There were many surprises. Some games had nail-biting finishes. The

chess players enjoyed their games and encouraged each other when the game did not

end in their favour. Even though it was sometimes difficult not to win, our children

congratulated their winning opponents. Sweet treats were handed out after each

game, with a quick run around the field. At the end of the tournament the winners

were announced. Even the Headmaster mad a move or two.

At the Sports Awards Assembly certificates were given for participation, outstanding

achievements and dedication.

AFTER SCHOOL DRAMA

We have had a very successful Junior Dramatix year with over 20 assembly plays, 3

drama concerts, 46 drama entries in the Tygerberg Eisteddfod and Honouring Night

to crown it all. The year also ended with a fun and enjoyable term where the students

did fun plays, plays with props and improvisation. We ended the drama year with an

exciting drama party, with Groups A and B, where everyone brought snacks.

We are taking Junior Dramatix a step up again in 2017 and had auditions for Gr. 1 –

5. We wanted to give every learner the opportunity to audition and showcase his/her

talent in a professional environment.

CRAFT CLUB

Hierdie kwartaal was my talentvolle kokke baie bedrywig in die kombuis!

lieflike selfgemaakte maaltyd kon bederf.

“tannie” Daryl Newton.

Groete,

Christelle Fourie

DANKIE DANKIE DANKIE DANKIE!!!!!!

Hierdie jaar het soveel hoogtepunte vir my.

“We would like to say thank you to all the parents of children of E.S.C.S who

make a donation of groceries. That makes a big difference in our family, we are

very happy to receive food especial at this time that is so hard. This is our

appreciation: Blessed hand that giventh than those that taketh. We thank

you…”

SPORT

TERM 4 - 2016

Dear Primary School Parents

Term four has been a short, but full one, and has truly gone by in

a flash. We managed to again see incredible enthusiasm and

commitment from our boys and girls, as well as staff, coaches and

you, our parents. Thank you everyone for making this a

challenging yet successful term (and year).

A few changes were made this term from those of previous years,

with the most noticeable difference being that of shifting the Inter-

house Athletics events from the first term of each year, to the

fourth. The aim was always to use this, as a cooler weather term,

to prepare our qualifying athletes, for the Durbell District Athletics league in January and February 2017,

as well as a few Mini-Athletics days, hosted by local schools in our area, in terms 1 and 4 next year.

We have already signed up for a few of these events and more are planned to be added early in the

new year.

We trust that this exposure to athletes from other schools in our district will improve our competitiveness

and skill base for years to come.

Mini-cricket and Cricket

Our u7, 8 and 9 mini-cricket teams again practiced weekly and we managed to juggle arrangements

with other schools to co-ordinate a few consecutive matches towards the end of the playing season,

even sometimes in place of a training slot. We enjoyed hosting more games this term than ever before

and received positive feedback from our opposition coaching staff for the facitities and spirit in which

our games were played. We will continue to make use of the cricket pitch on our bottom field to host

games in the new year, as we also noticed an increase in an interest for the sport through the use of

this field and facility.

I am looking forward to seeing some of our talented mini-cricket players transition into “hard-ball” cricket

in the new year and am excited to see the development of the potential we have already seen this year.

I trust that you will enjoy a few beach and garden cricket days as families over these holidays.

Our actual hard-ball calendar for U11 and U13’s in term 4 was a tough one, with a lot of schools

cancelling matches due to the increased demand on academics, and also because the term is generally

always a shorter one due to examinations. We continue to discuss this with WP Youth Cricket, as we

are not alone in this and strategies will definitely need to be put in place and implemented to see a re-

surgence in this sport at youth level.

Interhouse Netball and Hockey

Both events were held over two days and were jam packed. They definitely highlighted the need for us

to look at ways of encouraging greater participation in Inter-house events as we strive to grow the

enjoyment and competitive aspects of healthly rivalry in our sport next year.

I loved the way Hanlie, Zendré and Mary-Ann took complete control of and hosted a thoroughly

enjoyable afternoon of both Junior and Senior Primary School inter-house netball. There has been a

significant increase in interest in netball amongst our girls and we trust that the opportunity to send

players to Zonal and Provincial trials will become a reality in the new season.

The Inter-house netball event will be held at the end of term 1 as from March 2017 , as an official launch

to the new season, and the Inter-house hockey will take place at the end of the hockey season in late

August or early September 2017.

Netball skills

Netball skills and development was introduced in term 4 this year, with the aim of providing a platform

for our girls to increase their levels of fitness and agility, and to maintain the momentum we believe has

been started in netball at El Shaddai. I trust that through the continued input and motivation of our

coaches, we will see our girls reach new heights and levels in this and other sports where the skills and

techniques learnt are transferred.

Inter-house Athletics

We were blessed this term with favourably mild weather for both our field and track event days and I

loved the way our kids came alive again in competition. Thanks must also be said to Roderick

Beckmann, Juan Nel and Steven Solecki for their assistance and expertise at the field event practice

clinic leading up to our field event day. This is definitely something we will build on in the new year and

I believe that we saw the fruit of their efforts in the “smashing” of several records. Well done coaches

and athletes!

Both Track and Field events have been booked for Saturday mornings in October 2017, as we believe

that parents are then given a better opportunity to attend and support their children at these events.

Dates to diarise now for term 4 2017:-

Inter-house Track Athletics at the Parow Track - Sat 7th October 2017

Inter-house Field Athletics at ESCS Fields - Sat 28th Oct 2017

The plan is to also hold two Saturday morning field event coaching an technique correction clinics

during October 2017, on the 14th and 21st.

Biathlon

The 2016 / 2017 Western Province Biathlon season continues in term 1 (2017) and we definitely have

a number of dedicated athletes (runners and swimmers) who have already been a part of the season

so far. Thanks to the parents who have made the effort already to transport and encourage their children

in this sporting code. New developments have recently been discussed at the WP Biathlon AGM in

terms of school sporting representation and I will expand on this in the early part of the new term.

Two of many ESCS records

School is never boring. One only needs to walk through

the passages of our school to see the vibrant l ife here.

Daily I hear someone expressing their surprise that the

end of the year is already upon us. It seems time really

does fly when you are having fun.

We have made some happy memories this year. We

have let our creativity loose dressing up in fancy hats

and shoes to blessing the secretaries on Appreciation

Day. We had passages filled with book characters and

we have seen our THRASS chart come to life.

I appreciate all the support and assistance I have been

given from our amazing parents. Trolley races are much

more fun with the spectators cheering. The ladies’ tea

would not have been as spectacular without the

enormous amount of work the moms put in behind the

scenes. Thank you so much.

This term we had Lloyd and his dogs educate and

entertain us with The Amazing Dog Show. Alexander

Waltman from The Lucky Lucy foundation joined us to

watch the dog show and to receive the dog food and

toys etc. we had collected for the dogs in the shelter.

We had a Saturday morning for the men and boys.

Fathers and sons came to school to enjoy themselves

and to braai together.

I wish you a blessed and refreshing holiday.
