A baby changes everything! Most new parents would agree with that statement. But the Baby that we celebrate this season-Jesus-changed more than

the home in which he was born. His presence changed the world forever!

Tickets available now! Adults $8 Children $5

Use this event as an outreach and invite your family and friends. A table of 12 is $80.

Last day to order tickets: December 2 at 12pm

I would like to remind you of two important areas in the life of our worship and ministry. First, on December 16, we will have the opportunity to affirm a proposed 2013 operating budget of $615,000, which is a 3.7%

increase. I believe the ministry team leaders, ministry staff, and finance team have worked well to present a budget that reflects our worship and ministry goals for 2013.

I encourage you to be familiar with how your financial gifts are used for the Lord and His Kingdom work. The budget shows the many diverse ministry involvements in which you participate in our county, state, nation and world. Some of the larger increases represented in the 2013 budget are as follows: Missions – 16%; Student ministry – 87%; Children’s ministry – 63%; Support staff salaries – 15%.

The following are a few highlights of the 2013 budget:

We not only have a newly remodeled and dedicated classroom space for our College and Career class, but also we have a new budget line item for this age group.

We celebrate a unanimous vote to purchase 2.3 acres of land adjacent to our church on Highway 60. The cost of the land is $375,000 and the monthly payments are included in the budget. We should close on the land by the end of the

year.

We have increased Angie Sanford (church secretary) to 40 hours of work per week.

I hope you are excited about how God is leading us as His church. We are seeing spiritual and numerical growth. I pray you and your family are recipients of God’s grace and blessings through our worship and ministry and that you are experi-encing the faithfulness and guidance of the Holy Spirit in your daily endeavors. In thankfulness, we desire to support His Kingdom work.

I want to thank you for your faithfulness in giving to the Lord in 2012. Because of our unified giving as a church, we have been able to accomplish much worship and ministry in 2012. I hope you will join me in supporting the new budget for 2013. Would you pray about increasing your financial contribution to the church? If we all grow in giving, we can con-tinue to bless our Lord and bring Him glory.

Second, I would like to refer to our current sermon series, “Sharing the Faith.” We all have individuals who don’t know

Jesus as Lord with whom the Holy Spirit has burdened our hearts. I want to remind you of one simple Biblical truth: These individuals (family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, etc.) must hear the gospel.

How can we help them hear the gospel?

Invite these individuals to worship or special worship opportunities where the gospel will be presented.

Invite these individuals to your family baptism(s). We are planning to incorporate baptism in our worship next year. Many unbelievers will come and support friends or family in baptism.

Ask the Holy Spirit to lead you in knowledge and timing to share the gospel with them. The Holy Spirit will also lead you to give testimony of your story of God’s redeeming grace.

Share an inspiring CD or DVD of a sermon or worship service

with them.

If they like to read, give them a Bible or a book that teaches something about the gospel.

Show them the gospel by serving them with God’s unconditional, sacrificial and gracious love.

Pray that the individual(s) will be broken and humbled by the Holy Spirit.

Hopefully, these examples will prompt other avenues for your family and friends to hear the gospel. The Bible teaches they must “hear the gospel” and we can’t escape the fact that God’s plan uses people to express His grace. Will you pray that He will give you courage and passion to share the gospel through many venues? Let’s become an evangelistic church, shar-ing the gospel with others each week.

I pray God’s blessing on you and your family this Christmas season. Gerri and I love you very much.

Here’s what’s up in Kid Connection for December!

The kids will be participating in the Christmas dinner theater on December 7th

, 8th

and 9th

. We have been practicing during Children’s church, Adventure Club, and AWANA. We will be sending out a schedule and asking you to tell us which nights your child can sing and what night you want tickets for your family. Kids will need to wear a dressy Christmas outfit.

December will bring exciting changes to our Elementary Kid Connection Church. Because of rapid growth we are going to be splitting the 1

st and 2

nd grades from the 3

rd-5

th grades on some Sundays. This will allow us room for more growth in the

coming weeks. We are very grateful for our new teachers who are making this possible. Remember to say thanks to all of the teachers who give of their time and talents to work with your child.

Here are the details: First and third Sunday together – Miss Shari Second Sunday - Kari Jesse 3

th grade Chapel

Julie Renfro 1st and 2

nd grade Fellowship hall

Fourth Sunday - Toni Moore 3

rd-5

th grade Chapel

Emily & Jesse Swindler 1st and 2

nd grade Fellowship hall

December 5th is Pajama Night in AWANA! We will also be moving Christmas store to December 12

th. Christmas store is the

time clubbers can use their AWANA bucks to buy gifts for their parents. December 12th is the last AWANA Wednesday until

January 9th. PLEASE NOTE THE SCHEDULE CHANGE.

Sunday, December 16th

is another mission opportunity for kids and their families. We will be having a soup and sandwich lunch for our kids and their families after the worship service. This is free for kids and their families. Then we will be delivering soup and cookies to about 6 of our shut-in members. Come join the Christmas fun!

I also want to remind you about the Kroger gift cards that can be earning you money toward all of your Kid Connection trips and especially camp. The cards are $5 and must be purchased through the church office. (One of our kids recently paid his way to Superstart) You get 4% of every purchase you make reloading your gift card. Our family paid for one and a half camp fees for our kids this last summer using our Kroger cards. We did this by doing our Christmas shopping with store gift cards purchased at Kroger. I purchased gift cards to the stores I planned to visit, and I used those. We made 4% of our Christmas gift money toward camp. I highly encourage you to get one and start using it today! Shari Thompson

It is a real blessing to work with such a great church

family. We have asked you to become Goliath for a

night, hide in coffins in scary places, and prepare

untold numbers of desserts throughout the year. You

have kept the residents of Colonial Hall fed, wrapped

hundreds of shoeboxes, and even torn down the

walls for deconstruction.

Your gifts of service are precious

to our ministries! Thank you for

helping to grow His Kingdom.

Thank you for always saying

“yes” when we ask for help!!

Christianity isn’t dying, cultural Christianity is By Ed Stetzer Taken from Western Recorder Oct. 30 2012

You’ve heard it suggested the U.S. is simply Europe on a 50-year delay. Supposedly most churches will be museums before our grandchildren reach adulthood.

Though new numbers from Pew Research point to a decline in American Protestants, no serious scholar believes Christianity is on a trajectory of extinction. As a researcher and practicing evangelical Christian, I say to those who’ve read recent reports and come to that conclusion: “Not so fast.”

Many in the US who identify as Christians do so only superfi-cially. These cultural Christians use the term, but do not prac-tice the faith. Now it seems many of them are giving up the Christian label and those cultural or nominal Christians are becoming “nones,” people with no religious label.

I’ve seen this in my own family. Growing up in an Irish Catholic community outside New Your City, the Catholic church was the church we didn’t go to. Today, I am an evan-gelical Christian, and I attend church like one, but most of my extended family do not attend church, and don’t bother to call themselves Catholics any longer. The nominals became the nones.

Moreover, the cultural value of identifying as a Christian is decreasing. When that happens, those whose connection to Christianity was more an identifying mark than a deeply held belief find the label does not matter.

When considering why someone does or does not label them-selves a Christian, we see three broad ways people identify as Christian. On a survey, cultural Christians mark “Christian” rather than another world religion or because their family al-ways a has. Churchgoing Christians identify as such because they occasionally attend worship services. On the other hand, conversion Christians claim to have had a faith experience in which they were transformed, resulting in a deeply held belief.

The recent growth in nones, I believe comes primarily from cultural and churchgoing Christians not using religious identi-fication. Yet, there is a movement in religious identification that should cause us to consider three ramifications.

First, Christians continue to lose what some have called a home-field advantage. Christianity is no longer the first choice of many seeking spiritual meaning, and identifying as Christian is not necessary to be an accepted part of society.

Second, the squishy middle is collapsing. It makes less sense to be a cultural Christian today. Better to be spiritual than reli-gious, unless your religion matters to you.

Third, Christianity is not collapsing, but it is being clarified. If you cut through the recent hype, and look to studies such as the General Social Survey, you’ll find the United States is filled with vibrant believers.

The survey shows the evangelical movement has remained generally steady from 1972 to 2010. , that church attendance has declined among mainline Protestants, and that the nones have increased. But Christianity has not collapsed.

It’s true that many mainline church buildings, like their Euro-pean counterparts, have converted into shops, concert halls and museums. But I find it telling that churches like Sojourn Community Church in Louisville are buying back former ca-thedrals and filling them anew with vibrant young congrega-tions.

Even in the shadow of the decline of cultural and nominal re-ligion, the future of vibrant Christianity is America is all around us . The future of Christianity in America is not ex-tinction but clarification that a devout faith is what will last. Christianity in America isn’t dying, cultural Christianity is.

you to get online and start experimenting. Put in your spiri-

Adventure Club is truly blessed and humbled to teach children about the true meaning of Christmas. We have the daily opportunity to give our children avenues of learning scriptures, songs, and bible stories. What an amazing time of year to celebrate with the children and their families the birth of Jesus Christ!

Our Preschool will be hosting a Christmas Program on December 14, 2012 at 6:30PM. Our preschool children will sing songs celebrating Jesus’ birth. Connie’s Performing Arts Dancers will be joining our program. We are expecting a wonderful evening.

Adventure Club participated in our Serve60 project by providing hot chocolate at the beginning of “Light Up Simpson-ville!” It was great to visit off the church site with all of the families we haven’t seen for a while and our kids we see every day! We served at least 300 cups of hot chocolate and it was a ton of fun!!!

CARE & INVOLVEMENT MINISTRY

Our goal is to create ministry teams that will help create a culture of care to the church and the community. Teams will touch lives, identify needs, provide care, and share God’s love through cards, phone calls, meals, and personal visits.

Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2

Our Barnabas Team leader is Vera Stewart. Each week Vera provides her team with 1-2 contacts to make to those who are hurting and need encouragement.

Our team: Amy Griggs, Stacey Sanford, Edith McGowan, Steve Cheppo, Doug Goldsmith, Lisa Davis, Stanalee Gowin, Toni Moore, Pat Molidor, Dixie Taylor, Becky Straub, Mattie Johnson, Shirley Vessels, Angie Sanford & Vera.

During the months of September and October the Barnabas Team made 25 phone calls, 10 visits and send 37 cards. Contact Vera at 722-8765 if you would like to join the team!

ADVENTURE CLUB

DISCIPLESHIP

The Care and Involvement Ministry would like to introduce another ministry, Dinner for 6+2. The purpose of this ministry is to encourage fellowship between church members and guests.

different family each month. ach quarter the three couples will change to allow the opportunity to build relationships with more families. ( Singles may also participate with the group of hosts.)

If you would like to participate as a host home, please sign up at the Welcome Center. Please contact Denise Miller at 722-5246 ext 10 with questions.

MISSIONS

Lottie Moon Christmas Offering For International Missions

Church Goal: $5,000

Helping reach a $175 million goal can be very daunting if you’re struggling to make ends meet. But God smiles upon every gift given from a joyful heart, no matter the amount. Every penny given to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering® is used to help support about 5,000 Southern Baptist missionaries serving overseas. There are about 6,500 people groups today with a Christian presence of 2 percent or less, making them unreached. Of these people groups, about 3,250 of them are also unengaged, meaning there is no current strategy to bring Christians into contact with them. Last year, more than 2.2 million people got to hear the Gospel from those missionaries and their national partners. And from those hearers, your missionary force reported baptizing 333,823 new believers and starting 28,873 new churches.
