New Sermon Series Given by Andy McDonald
Defining moments are those events and experiences that greatly influence the direction of our lives. As the phrase implies, when one occurs we are “defined” by it in some way. When we experience a defining moment, our lives are split in two: “life before this” and “life after this.” Whether resulting from a well thought out plan, an uninvited circumstance, a choice made in a moment of weakness, or the unmistakable call of God, defining moments WILL happen. More importantly, our response to a defining moment greatly impacts how they mark our lives.
Defining moments are part of how God works His eternal purposes in and through each of our lives. In this series we will celebrate, reflect and seek to draw near to God in our defining moments. “For such a time as this.” Esther 4:14
NEW SERMON SERIES
BEGINS MAY 3
I want to thank the church family for the gift of a sabbatical for the next two months, beginning May 1st. It is my plan to spend the
time in intentional meditation, reflection, and prayer. I will use the time to constructively evaluate the status of the church and my leadership. I am praying for God's will and direction for the church, my life and my family.
Andy McDonald has accepted the opportunity to bring the message for most Sunday mornings. Andy is currently ministering through the Kentucky Baptist Convention in the Evangelism and Church Planting Team as an Affinity Evangelism Strategist. Most recently, Andy served 10 1/2 years on church staff at First Baptist Church of Shelbyville. Andy, Lisa and Will have been members of Simpsonville Baptist Church for 7 months. He has preached here a handful of times. He has a passionate heart for ministry and love for God's church. I hope you will pray for him and encourage him. During the sabbatical I will be unavailable. However, you may receive assistance and information by contacting the church offices. I have met with the 2014-15 church leadership and they will continue to lead, minister, and administrate in their areas of responsibility. Matt Garner will lead staff meetings and be available to give direction about the operating procedures of our church. I encourage your participation in the planned and informal prayer opportunities for the church and for your small groups. Let's encourage one another to continued faithfulness to our Lord and His church. We are reminded that our mission and purpose is to follow the Great Commission and the Great Commandment of our Lord Jesus. We testify daily that He is the Leader of our church and our lives.

The Easter prayer vigil was a huge blessing in our congregational body. Many
things came out of the event as a result of us submitting to God in prayer. That's really a component of prayer, submission. By praying in earnest, you are confessing who God is; He is the Great I am, the one without cause. He provided a way for us to fellowship with Him in prayer. You aren’t even aware that you’re doing it at times, acknowledging Him in that way; whether it’s with your head bowed, your heart full of emotion or crying out to him in pain or fear, you are seeing Him. The blessings that resulted were numerous;
many people’s prayer lives have been changed. So many in our body had never prayed for an hour before, had never cried out to God at His altar, and He responded. Many came away with a renewed/refreshed heart for God. Marriages and relationships have been changed. God is always faithful, and our Life Group is thankful for our body that submitted to God in His command to always pray and not become discouraged (Luke 18:1) Israel Snider
Before Rick and I were married, he asked that I “remodel” his house so that it would become “ours.” So, as I was going through each room, there were sheer lace white curtains hanging at the windows that I decided to take down (living in the country, I like NO curtains) The sheers were too nice to throw away so I washed them and placed them in a drawer.
Later that year we were having company for dinner and I needed a nice tablecloth, but didn’t have one. I got the sheer lace curtain out and used it for my tablecloth. My guests commented on how pretty it was…..I had to confess that it was just an old sheer curtain. I continued to use it many times on my table when “company” was coming.
As we were getting ready for the 60 hours of prayer, Alison Snider asked if the Life Group could bring some table cloths to use for decoration. Yep, I brought the sheer lace curtains and told her she could use them for decoration….which she did…and it was very pretty.
Sometime after the prayer vigil, Alison said she couldn’t yet return my sheer curtain tablecloth because it was being used on the cross Easter Sunday. I didn’t think about it too much until this past Sunday….and when I saw that nearly-discarded sheer lace tablecloth on the cross, I wept.
It reminded of our lives and of the lives of others around us whom we want to discard….because of the broken relationships and the hurt and sin and darkness….but if in love and with God’s grace we can just put stuff aside and repurpose those lives….they, too, can be “on the cross”….ready to receive His gift of eternal life. Missions Greetings Everyone! I have received many messages requesting an update on how Heather, Willow, Walker and I are doing. We are so grateful that many of you have made such an effort to keep in touch with us and to pray for us during this transition. Throughout this process we have learned through everything to more fully cast ourselves in reliance upon the Lord, His provision and providence. He has proven faithful as He always does.
As we've sought wisdom and discernment from God in regard to where He would call us to serve next, He has given us a passionate desire to consider a position with Reaching and Teaching International as missionaries in Cuenca, Ecuador! My former missions professor and friend, Dr. David Sills, was a missionary in Ecuador for many years. After seeing the great need for biblically trained pastors and church leaders around the world (Ecuador is only 3% evangelical Christian. Among their churches only 17% of their pastors have any pastoral training or discipleship) Dr. Sills formed Reaching and Teaching International.
The mission statement of Reaching & Teaching is "Reaching and Teaching International Ministries exists to reach the peoples of the world through evangelism and by meeting the great need for deep discipleship, pastoral preparation, leadership training, and theological education around the world." Our first step will be taking an initial vision trip to Cuenca, Ecuador April 24-May 3. We will be able to better get to know the missionary couple currently living there that we would be working with (Dr. Sills' son Christopher and his family who we thankfully know some already). Also, Heather will be teaching about a Biblical Worldview at a K-12 Christian School there on this trip as I teach on the doctrine of worship at the training facility where I will be teaching pastors, church leaders and pastoral students.
Please pray that God would continue to give us wisdom and discernment regarding this life-changing decision to move to Ecuador. Heather and I are both passionate about taking the gospel to the nations in obedience to the Great Commission and it is a blessing to have an opportunity to serve, reach and teach under the leadership of Dr. Sills and his son Christopher. We are so grateful for God's providence throughout the last few months that has led us to this opportunity to serve in an area of such great need. We covet your prayers and will keep you all up to date! If you have Facebook you can also keep up with us here: https://www.facebook.com/Winfreysonmission That All May Hear Jimmy Winfrey
-Pray for the pastors and students we will be teaching to become further equipped to impact their churches, communities and their world with the gospel
-Pray for the children Heather will be teaching that they will clearly hear the gospel and understand that salvation is through faith in Jesus Christ alone
-Pray for Willow and Walker as this will be the longest they've been away from both their parents
-Pray that Heather and I would connect well and begin great relationships with Christopher and Carol Sills (the Reaching and Teaching missionaries in Cuenca)
-Pray that God would give us wisdom and discernment during this trip to confirm our passion and calling to serve with Reaching and Teaching International in Ecuador!

An Update from Soy, Kenya “Hello Brothers, Jack Canfield, once said, do not worry about failures, worry about the chances you miss when you don't even try. We have successfully come to an end of our jiggers campaign. It is a joy that many people will be able to work in their small gardens with jiggers-free ease. Jiggers multiply faster at high temperatures. This last outbreak was serious because we had a six months of high temperatures and dust but now it is raining, so we expect no more infection and infestations. During the campaign we touched 7,200 people both children and adults, even very elderly. Three more villages were added to the list, Kimulwet, Sambut and Kamagut which had 317 people with jiggers. We also sprayed 17, 100 houses with insecticide. I am thankful that God give the resources for us to use for His glory. Some families were given blankets, mattresses, chicks and a goat besides clothes and shoes which the com-munity donated. God has been gracious to us. A group of young youth, with resilience, labored hard in remov-ing jiggers from the victims. They donated much of their time going from one village to another to offer their services unselfishly! Because they gave all they had - time, we have organized them into groups and I donated chicks to each group. Their chicks will take a short time to start laying and will help to provide a stable food source. This will also keep them together and busy, most idle youths are turning out to be radicalized and joining terror groups. In fact it is now known that most of the terrorist attacks that Kenya has suffered from are carried out by the homegrown terrorist including the most recent Garrisa University attack which left 147 peo-ple dead including our very own Jackson Kipketer, whom we sponsored in High school. This is due lack of employed opportunities. The tailoring course will start immediately when we get the trainers.” Nathan Osiemo DVM, Community Leader
We will be serving with Meridzo Ministries at the Maytown Center in Langley KY.
The Maytown Center is historically one that has received less help and traffic than those with whom we have previously worked.
They are undergoing changes, including new managers, due to the previous organization pulling out of the area. Unfortunately, this organization is removing many of the fixtures which it provided including mattresses and basic kitchen items. The needs are great but
the potential for ministry being accomplished here is greater still. Cost for the trip is $75 per person (maximum $200 per family)
which includes meals and lodging.
Highlights of Maytown Center ministries include beginning both a food pantry, a clothes closet and in the future a medical clinic.
Much repair work needs to be accomplished before these things can be done.
Repair walk-in cooler
Remodel rooms for families
Repair roof in the lunchroom
Complete aluminum siding job for house that is unfinished
Repair many electrical and plumbing issues
Picnic tables need power washing and painting
Cosmetic work on a number of buildings
Possible VBS and back-to-school giveaway
We are also collecting food pantry items and good, clean, used clothing and shoes to help the Food Pantry and
Clothing Closet to get off on a good start.
Last day to sign up
is May 24.
ALC Pregnancy Resource Center in Shelbyville will begin their annual Baby Bottle Boomerang Campaign on Mother’s Day. Pick up an empty bottle and fill it with change, bills or checks. Return the bottles on Father’s Day or before.
Donated monies fund this nonprofit which offers services free of charge to any experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. They also offer peer counseling, classes in parenting and homemaking, adoption referrals, male mentoring, bible study and baby items.
Thank you to Amanda Monroe for taking leadership in this ministry!
Praying for Scott & Joyce Pittman who are in the
mission field in Brazil. Praises Good participation at personal evangelism
training - a total of around 40 people attended two personal evangelism training events in at 2 different churches.
Great trip to U.S. - We celebrated our grandson, Luke's first birth-day, celebrated Joyce's mother's 90th birthday, got to see lots of family, and got back Tuesday.
Over 100 signed up for regional evangelism training !- We were hoping for maybe 40 people and look how God has been at work! How little faith we had.
Please pray for those who have attended evangelism training - that they would be eager and ready to share their faith. And pray that
many would come to know Jesus as Savior and Lord through their
efforts!
