THBT democracy cannot meet the challenges of the modern age

Miss Chairwoman, Bell-boy two altruistic people who show that theres still some hope in this.. /disgust/ democratic world

Members of the Opposition, who seem to believe that theres no way to be selfish as selfishness is the way

Members of the Proposition, reluctant to take a one way ticket to a democratic moon

    L&M, good evening !

Democracy. It makes me think about my childhood. Going on holidays in our car, me sitting at the back seat, devouring landscapes through the window. We all loved each other and we all agreed on the holiday destination- it was like politics.

But democracy is indeed like traveling. You have a Prime Minister, or the driver, who does his best to achieve the goal, lets say reduce pollution in your country or, in this example, get to Barcelona. He feels the pressure of his voters, the children, who want to see the result ASAP. On short trips, like to a shopping center, democracy is perfect. But think about going to Barcelona! Its horrible. You always have some opposition who try to sabotage the whole project. Usually this is the role of the Shadow Prime Minister, commonly referred to as YOUR WIFE. And then you have your kids in the back seat Lets stop at the drive thru! (voters who want a pay rise). And if you try to resist, they will start to scream and cry in adult world we call it /jingle/ SNCF strike)

  • But democracy is even worse than traveling. Imagine that the driver and the wife would take turns in driving every 20 minutes and each time would ask their children to choose one of them. You would spend fortune on happy meals to get your votes and hardly ever get to your destination.

M.machin.People are too selfish. They care only about themselves, they want it all, they want it now. I will show you this phenomenon on an international, national and personal levels.

Take the global perspective first. The Italians want to bribe less, the Americans want to eat less, the Chinese want to reproduce less, the Africans want to die less. These are not common goals! Let me notice that out of the four mentioned, only China managed to get closer to their goal and they are hardly a model democracy. To solve global problems, we need global commitment, which democracy makes impossible on an international level. Hence, democracy cannot deliver.

On a national level, you surely noticed how selfish people are. This is what we call the i-dont-care-isation of society. We tried to educate people so that they understand what is really at stake, but instead of conscious voters, we got strong lobbies. Social workers want money to help the

elderly, biologists want money for DNA research, engineers want money for high-speed railway, the unemployed want money for nothing. Once again they think only about themselves and fail to acknowledge the real challenges pollution, war, economic crisis all of these are too distant to be real problems for an average voter. Hence, democracy cannot deliver.

Now imagine what would happen if you were democratic on a individual level. You surely know the Freudian, psychoanalytic division of your internal parliament Superego, Ego and Id (Over-I, I and it)?

  • Imagine you elect one of them for a couple of years . to gover-n your

everyday choices. Under the governance of Superego, you would work hard, eat healthy food and have no fun at all. The boredom would drive you crazy so on the next election, you would jump on Id and probably end up in jail immediately. And once again you would never think about the real challenges. Hence, democracy cannot deliver.

After 6 minutes of verbal fallacy and excessive verbiage of M. .., well be back with Raphael who will show you that people do not understand the real challenges and with Swann who will elaborate on the time-consuming process of its-my-turn-isation and afterwards Agathe

will conclude with the evergreen Democracy cannot deliver

Ladies and Gentlemen, it is now time to unveil the real face of democracy. Looking at the very origins of the word, we are bound to accept that this is only a DEMO version. DEMO means abridged, means poor, means not adapted, but demo is for free. If people chose democracy, it is because they prefer freeware to freedom, but it is highest time to change it, as democracy cannot deliver. L&G, vote for the motion!
